the thing about racism is, if you ignore, it doesn't go away. it's easy to say don't give bernie ecclestone attention he's halfway to the grave anyway, when he's already made sure his agenda is well alive. his wife is already at a significant position in an organization that protected a man who just robbed a record-breaking championship from a black man, in front of the entire world and would do it again, when needed. there's still people out there who refuse to acknowledge lewis' experiences just because he's successful. you're telling me these people are going to support him and cheer for his success?

it’s fixing central across all the sports this week 😂😂 corruption of the highest order. At least UEFA acknowledged it. as for a certain motor racing governing body, comeuppance will come soon I hope

and they’ll all tune out once they realise this type of rule bending for drama that we’ve seen this season isn’t the norm. FIA have undone all the marketing because the drama regarding stewarding this season will mean changes in written sporting regs so they’re a lot more clear cut to protect the race director, esp if Merc take the FIA to court. So yeah they might tune in, but they’ll tune out just as quickly once they realise we’re back to ‘boring old F1’.

Also, why do people think it’s right to artificially set up a situation like Masi did to appease casual viewers? This isn’t a movie or the WWE. If people want that type of entertainment, they can find it elsewhere, but not in F1. If people didn’t like the sport being played out all these years, it’s not right to say okay let’s play it out unfairly so people will be interested again. There should be better marketing strategies than jeopardising the integrity of the FIA.

They also didn’t have to end under an SC. Could’ve gone green w/o unlapping and no one would’ve complained because it’s part of the rules. If causal viewers don’t like that, they know where the door is.

I don’t understand why ppl think this contrived situation was in any way good for the sport long term.

Today my dad was watching the race with me. He isn’t much of a fan at all and all his experience with the sport is pretty much just the handful of races he’s watched with me over the years out of boredom. Today my dad was jumping and screaming on the last lap like he’s been invested in this for years or like Max was his freaking son. Michael Masi’s desicion was unusual, and very very brave, but it was also a sound decision that created something, a moment of excitement and craziness, that could cause someone like my dad or the thousands others like him watching to decide to watch this sport for the rest of their lives. Some F1 fans today have been crying and complaining and thinking this sport has put itself in some sort of difficult situation, but outside the echo chamber of this bunch with this thinking, this sport will have more people tune in to watch it next year than if the race ended behind the SC, whether you like it or admit it or not.

As his radio message to Toto Wolff suggested, he was trying to let the two title contenders race it out for one last lap to decide who was champion. That’s almost admirable. Exactly that. There was no strategy issue on the Merc side of things, because they strategised according to the rules. But now, even strategising according to the rules is an uncertain decision because the rules can be applied selectively and on a whim. What grates my gears more is uneducated one season wonders that act like they’ve watched more than just this season and drive to survive, call merc out on a strategy that wasn’t flawed.

just here to say F1 yesterday was a shit show and if Masi keeps his job, I will refuse to watch. He’s cocked it up all season. Max didn’t deserve to win like that, because that’s all everyone is going to remember. He deserved to win and be remembered for how well he’s driven all season. Lewis didn’t deserve to lose, and he definitely did not deserve to lose because the race director setting up an artificial one lap shoot out whilst he was handicapped (because of the FIA’s indecision and inability to follow their own rules, might I add). What I mostly don’t understand is the article about Race Director Discretion in applying the Safety Car. Surely the rule means the director can control whether it gets sent out or not and how long for, not change regs about how many cars unlap themselves. It also really grates me that the decision Masi made only benefitted P2 in terms of overtakes. Sainz and Tsunoda could’ve battled with each other and Max for better finishes if all the cars had unlapped, but it seems they were just forgotten about, making the situation all the more shitty.

I don’t begrudge Max because he did what any driver would have in his situation. But Masi’s bad race control might cost him if this goes to court and that is very unfair to him.

All in all, a really awful day for long term fans of the sport. It was clear that reeling in casual viewers by orchestrating a spectacle, against the conventions and rules, was more important to the higher powers in F1 than the integrity of the sport. It sets a disgusting precedent that the rules are only selectively applied and can be bent at any time. If Merc appeal or sue, the sport is in big big trouble and all the ‘entertainment’ they provided will be limited to this season only because, I can imagine, we will see a regulation change so rules are more stringent in the future. So thanks Masi, you’ve ruined F1 as we know it. Think it’s time to hang up your hat.

I was crying at my ma this morning yeno, god love her cos her heart was in the right place, so obviously there was a terrorist attack in Liverpool last week innit and obviously it’s come out that the fella converted to Christianity but yeno people love to assume a certain religion and terrorism go hand in hand, anyway we were driving into town cos I wanted to go Costco before the match and there’s a mosque nearby and there was at least 50 white people stood outside and me mum went “what are they doing I doubt they’re using the mosque for prayer” so I was like arrr I dunno yeno so she pulls the car over and says “these better not be kicking off outside over the attack last week” lashes her hazards on and jumps out the car so I grabbed the keys out the ignition and followed her she marched up to some woman and said “what are youse all doing here” dead snotty tho and this woman goes “getting my vaccine it’s being used as a covid hub” well I screamed me ma went to cause murder thinking all these people were trying to hurl abuse when in reality they were all minding their own business and getting a vaccine
