What have I done..?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So here’s the story.. I got this squirrel and planned to put a weasel skull on it (hence why it has no head) I planned to clean the skeleton with peroxide but did some different things before hand and then forgot about it for a while… And, well, this is what I got.

Idk if this helps or not but you wouldn’t want to keep a maceration bucket in the fridge, it would significantly stall decomposition. You should see if your building has a garden shed or something you could stick it in. Or if there’s a room people don’t use super often you could cover it well and stick it in there, in my experience a well covered bucket doesn’t smell.
I so desperately wanna get into vulture culture (ethical amateur taxidermy) but i live in a dorm building and dont think my housemates would be fond of me leaving buckets of dead raccoons submerged in water in the communal fridge for multiple months at a time only to turn around and stick a dead bird i found on the street in there right after i finally take it out

It’s a sparrow. Unfortunately it’s against Canadian law to own or possess parts of certain birds, including all North America sparrows, due to the Migratory Birds Convention Act. As a fellow Canadian I am also annoying limitited by the MBCA, but understand why it is in place and am glad that it is.

Can anyone identify this bird? My cat killed it this summer and I really want to know what it is as I have it’s skull and wings. I’m in western Newfoundland if that’s any help

Maceration won’t destroy the bones, but it will destroy all the cartilage and connective tissue. This means you will have to put every little toe and foot bone back together. Also maceration of small animals can be tricky as tiny bones are easily lost in the sludge, but if you’re careful and patient maceration will work just fine.
Quick question, does anyone offer or know of anyone that offers beetle work services? Would beetles be the best option for a kitten that is 9.5 inches from the nose to the base of the tail, or could maceration work without the bones falling apart? I really want to articulate her and don’t want to ruin the bones!

Salt. Get a tub big enough to put the feet in completely, fill part way with salt, put in feet, cover the feet in salt, and stick it somewhere dry. Wait a few weeks, if you live in a very dry climate it probably won’t take that long, but if it’s humid it’ll take longer for the moisture to be drawn out. Feel the feet, if the skin still feels supple at all it’s not dry yet. If it’s dry, carfully shake off the salt.
Preserving Goat Feet?
So, my cousin butchered his goats for meat. During the process I asked if I could have some of the feet. I want to preserve them and make key chains out of them. I also have a goat tail I’d like to make something out of as well. Right now I have the feet and tail wrapped up in the freezer, because I’m unsure of the best method on how to preserve them? Would anyone be willing to give me some advice or instruction? (Who knows you might get a free preserved goat foot in the mail if you’d like)

The Nuckelavee is one of the fiercest beings in Scottish folklore. It lived in the sea, but when it arose it could whither crops with just its breath. The ghoulish figure was said to be a fusion of horse and rider, skinless, and with long arms that dragged behind it on the ground.
The Nuckelavee can be escaped by crossing fresh water. This one can also curse your home for 35$ shipped if you want to buy the original.
