“This is an excellent team-up. Really, off to a great start. It’s not like I mock your outfit choices.”
Blackout blinked. “No, that was a self-burn. Like yeah, I’m kinda surprised you have two supersuits that are exactly the same except for the color palette and the fact that this one glows, but it was- that was about me. Mocking my tendency to fall for chicks in tights, right?”
“It’s a jumpsuit.” Limelight doesn’t look away from the building they’re scoping out, and really, genuinely, Blackout hadn’t been making fun of her suit, but the fact that her night-mode was just a grey and green version of her daytime white and yellow was shocking.
“No, like- like superhero tights? It’s a saying.”
“I know.”
“This is an excellent team-up. Really, off to a great start.”
That makes Limelight smile, just a bit of a smirk that Blackout can barely see since she’s still checking the place out, and come on. They’ve put aside nemeses-ship for the sake of a common enemy, she can stop pretending she isn’t amused by Blackout’s incredible wit.
Unfortunately, Limelight has apparently decided that “covert operation” translates to “no conversation”, so it’s up to Blackout to save the day, as usual.
“Why does this one glow by the way. Not trying to dunk on your cyberpunk vibe or anything, but this is an undercover mission and the neon-sign stripes are... kinda... not that.”
“I’ll turn it off when we get closer.”
“It turns off? It literally only glows for the aesthetic, doesn’t it? Of course it does, given this and your purity-white day look I’m surprised you took the hit to get them made in Kevlar and not something shinier.”
“Unfortunately, not everyone can wear full latex catsuits.”
“You’ve literally just described my dream universe.”
Limelight strangles what could’ve been a snicker in a less cursed timeline. “Shut up. And get down, patrol at two o’clock.”
----
This prompt felt very Blackout, and I’m glad I finally got to see how fun it is to write from her perspective!
Prompt #2410
“Watch out, with a fashion sense like that I might just end up falling in love with you.”

Thanks @milestogobeforeiwrite!! I tried to reblog but couldn’t figure out how to get them next to each other lol. The idea is to do two of your characters and yourself with this picrew
On the left we have Victoria (she/her), middle is me (she/he/they), and on the right is Sammy (she/her). Both characters are from a piece I wrote for my creative writing class this semester. Their backgrounds are the same bc they’re on a date
I’m tagging @inkdheart17, @james-stark-the-writer, and @windowside-writing, no pressure, and let me know if you don’t wanna be tagged in the future!

81 for the ask game? Thanks!!
Hello! Number 81: favorite books (manga counts)
- The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi
- Dragon Weather by Lawrence Watt-Evans, the whole triad actually, but I don’t think the series has a name
- As far as manga go, I like Fullmetal Alchemist as a kid, but I’m more of a watcher than a reader, since I don’t have great access where I live now.
Thanks for the ask!

“You made me love you.”
And I’m tagging @dgwriteblr, @inkdheart17, and @souliloquyyy. Have fun!

Thanks @souliloquyyy for the Last Line Tag!
I’m taking a writing class this semester (and considering changing my major) so the last line I wrote is actually from a poem, so I’m gonna keep the line breaks in like I wrote them.
I like the forest, but
I have memories
of slipping, skidding down slopes
and tripping over roots,
falling off a trail and landing
in a bush, or cactus, or tree,
I make impact.
@inkpot-dreamer, @james-stark-the-writer, @dandequill, @inkdheart17 what’s the last line you’ve written?

6. Do you typically find yourself projecting your own traits onto your OCs?
To an extent, yes. I mean, part of me feel like that’s an important part of building characters, is giving them traits you can relate to and build on to make them more interesting and lifelike, and also it can be really fun to experiment with how your personal quirks can be taken in different contexts or how they can interact with other quirks that you don’t have.
At the same time, there are definitely some parts of me that I haven’t ever put into my characters. One of my most notable traits is how insanely stubborn I am, and while people either love or hate me for it, I know it’s not a very relatable trait. I tend to have “epiphanies” that affect how I see the world and myself, and I have the ability to immediately change my outlook and how I think, which is actually a result of subconsciously considering something for a long time, years in some cases, before I realize I’ve been worrying about something and then think about it consciously for a few days straight and come to a decision. But, on the outside it’s a very immediate thing, and I think it would be difficult to write and difficult for readers to relate to.
So, yes and no?

Haha, thanks! And me too, sometimes during the day I’ll just remember how much he likes frogs and it always makes me smile
Lezmilys calls himself The Wolf because there are three distinct groups of organized crime that gather under different leaders: The King, The Empress, and The Master. As The Wolf, Lezmilys aims to overthrow all of these groups and replace them with a single more powerful organization that he’ll lead into his domination of the world.
I don’t actually know a lot about his backstory, I spent a long time treating him like a very one-dimensional character, which doesn’t really make him the best main villain. I’m trying to think about him more, but he’s not really opening up yet. As of now, I know that he was used to having control and then had it taken away in a way that made him a bit, extreme? Unclear.
WAIT BEFORE I SAY ANYTHING your WIP titles are all so pretty?? and your character names too?? kjh okayum what's something one of your OCs are obsessed about?
Aww, thank you! They’re all nonsense lol, except for when I get obsessive and nervous and make all my friends give me suggestions and create surveys to send out because making decisions is hard. Okay, let’s see
Shade: Likes frogs. It might be my favorite fact about any of my characters, and it’s one of the earliest ones I came up with, Shade just freaking loves frogs.
V: He’s Shade’s brother and he specializes in programming and hacking, but his obsessive tick is that once he knows someone has a secret, or knows something he doesn’t, he will stop at nothing to find out what it is. He’s got serious blackmail on a lot of people because of this.
Ferry: is obsessed with justice, in a very naive way. He believes in fairness and wants to help people, but exclusively through legal means, which becomes a problem for him because of course it does.
Limelight: cares a lot about her family. I wouldn’t say she’s obsessive about much, except maybe that she hates being underestimated, so she’s obsessive about being seen as capable and respected?
Blackout: Hoards secrets like nothing else, except maybe chocolate. Her personal safety is the most important thing in the world, and if that means juggling layers upon layers of secret identities then that’s what she’ll do
Captain Wonder: Captain Wonder will make the world a better place if it takes him his whole goddamn life.
Ibis: Ibis believes that perfection of form can lead to perfection of self, and she practices this is every aspect of her life.
Space Twins (Cosmos and Starlight): Space. Also, they really really love all the custom food and drink specials that places around town do for them.
Harvey: Is obsessed with protecting people, especially those he loves. It’d really suck if he didn’t realize he loved someone until he couldn’t protect them anymore, wouldn’t it?
Alastair: is desperate to love himself. Wooo, depressing! Besides the plot-centric stuff, Alastair tries very hard to distance himself from his family, he’s trying to make a name for himself rather than lean on the fame of his family.
Lezmilys (The Wolf): Power. He’s never going to let anyone control him ever again.
Thanks for this ask hun, it was a lot of fun!
#my writing#questions#my characters#this is fun!#usually i just pick a placeholder name for a character and then it sticks#not the best system but#literally nothing i do for writing is a good system lol

Morituro - someone who is destined to die
I reblogged this prompt list a little while ago and since I only got one request I chose to do them on my own, because why not. Enjoy!
---
1:40:00
She didn’t look at her number when Limelight was around. It’d be too obvious, too vulnerable. Not that it mattered anyways, she couldn’t change it.
Well, that was a lie. She knew exactly how to change it, because two hours earlier Limelight had come to Blackout for a team-up. She’d been thinking about her timer, 3:57:09, who cares about owing favors in their last hours? Blackout refused, turned and walked out, and it wasn’t until she was home and out of the suit that she looked again.
19:07:24:09:43:24
And really, she’d always believed in fate, hadn’t she? So she made a decision, staring at the number that’d been steadily counting down for 28 years and watched it change. Blackout suited back up.
2:29:03

Oh gosh, inspirations. Uhhh, lets see
Alastair and Harvey (title in progress)
- the idea of someone using a love potion on themselves
- okay now how can I make everything worse
- oh and it needs to be gay
- wait now there’s another main character okay how can I make his life suck too
Work the Shadows (Shade and Ferry)
- what if the government was bad
- watched a few buddy-hitman movies
- okay but also superheroes
Of Gods and War
- started from War’s backstory of like how he became a god
- maybe I write and post that snippet soon
- decided that the opposite of war was salvation
- for some reason
- okay now what if everyone was mad at him (War) except his literal polar opposite
Anna and Kali (very new, title pending)
- very weird dream I had
- i can’t believe i haven’t written any lesbians yet i’m a lesbian what am i doing
- okay now make it a supernatural murder mystery/detective story
I don’t really have a thought process do I? I swear, I plan stuff sometimes. Mostly pain. Oops.
I’ll tag @inkdheart17 @storyteller-kaelo @mimiroks and @thedemoninthecorner if you guys wanna do it!
Influences and Inspiration Tag
Thank you @boredwriter-16 the tag!

This is super cute!! I love these fools so much, Fern is adorable! I’d be delighted to hear more about this WIP
It's surprisingly hard to come up with words for that ask game, but how about: sky, death, round and soft?
Nevada Sky
The odd thing about dying was the sky. There were more stars than Fern had ever seen in her life, the kind of stars you only read about in fantasy novels or on those late-night science shows you watched when you were a kid and woke up in front of the TV at 3 am. They were everywhere, and they were bright, and they were… speaking to her? Fern blinked once, twice, and into focus came the image of an angel.
“Up you go, Fern. You’re not dead.” Not an angel then, it took fern a moment to put together the pieces. Not an angel, Sam, the same Sam who’s the Chosen one and dragged her on this road trip-slash-quest. The Sam she’s been pining over since freshman year. That Sam.
“Sure feels like it. What even happened?”
“We’ll talk about it in the morning, doll. Come on, I didn’t book this sketchy-ish motel room for nothing. You need some rest, and I want to sleep in a real bed for once.” Fern groaned and took Sam’s ever so soft hand and hoisted herself off the ground.
“Do the stars just look like that here?” She looked up at the impossible stars and the impossibly round moon in the sky.
“The glasses help, but yeah, they’re pretty awesome, aren’t they?” She held onto Fern’s hand still, eyes turned to the sky. Fern tried to not think about her fingers, or her hands, or the warmth and softness of her palm in hers. Tried was the keyword. Fern was just glad that mind-reading was not in her pack of Chosen one magic powers. If it was she would have been screwed the moment she first saw her freshman year.
Speaking of screwed, the room had only one bed, and Fern was glad that Sam refused to turn on the lights, and glad she had scurried to the bathroom where she could wash her tomato-red face before changing into the tackiest of sweatpants and gas-station t-shirt and making her way to the bed, muttering a string of choice words as she banged her thigh on the bedpost. Sam was already in bed, back to Fern. As she crawled in Sam scooted closer to her warmth.
“J'so y'know. I tend to koala anyone I sleep near.“ Oh this will be a fun night, Fern thought to herself, dreading the inevitable. She took one last look at those impossible Nevada stars and let herself melt into Sam’s warmth.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks for the words!! I’ve been toying around with this WIP idea for a while so its fun to write my first thing for these fools!
I'm dying? This is beautiful my gosh, I love this! I gave you a few words and you wrote a love story? I'm so happy for them and like, genuinely giddy this is so cute.
And thanks so much for sharing the words, I am delighted to receive extra stories!
Hey! For your writing ask game: dark, ornate, frosting and cliff? Have fun!
As you can probably tell these words were just so fecking cool and I actually shared them to two other writers, so you might get three stories! Anyway, here's mine, thank you for the words!! They were so fun to write!
Old Ways
I never should have come here in the dark, yet I did, for I am a fool who cannot resist your glory for a few more hours. I built you this place, a place fit for a god like yourself. You looked at the ornaments and gold and silver and jade and you laughed. You laughed because it reminded you of the temples they built all those hundreds of years before. You laughed because you knew as well as I that I built this place in that image... an image which I pulled from a Wikipedia page.
You laugh at me often, when I bring you offerings like before, but instead of bread and dates and meat and fruit, I bring you twinkies and ice cream and slim jims and gummies, all upon golden plates, just like they did. You laughed when I brought fun frosting, not on a cake, but just the whole container, and we sat in the sun and ate it straight.
I built this place, nestled in the cliffs by the sea, for you to find a home again, and for you to experience new things in an old setting.
But I came in the dark,
And the cliffs are high,
And you, in your godly manner,
Who has let worshippers fall off those cliffs around your temples,
Time and time again for centuries,
Catch me.
Oh that's so cool! You created such a nice atmosphere, very alone and a bit sad. I love what you did with that prompt!
Somewhere in a solitary place, atop a grassy hill, stands a ruin. It stands lonely and tall, its stones as darkened with age as the skies above it, rolling with thick clouds that promise thicker rain. Heavy clouds are honest ones, and make good on their word.
The damp is second only to the dark, the sun long faded into memory, if there were only someone here to remember it. The ruin stands lonely on the horizon as silent guard (there is nothing to guard), its once-ornate windows the closest thing to color in this place, the cracked faces of forgotten saints speak warning to wandering souls (there is no one to warn).
From the sea spray comes a mist, rising over the cliffs, over the hill, to hover in the air, its feeble glow in the grey cloud-light the closest thing to wonder in this place. It rises over the cliffs and settles on the cobbles and stones, on the iron gates and the glass, frosting the place with a fine dew as if the towers themselves wept. The crying echoes have long since died, even the ghosts have left.
Somewhere in a solitary place stands a ruin, empty as the sky is full. It stands lonely and dark, and it grieves.
