writing takes so long and its so tiring but if i dont write for the rest of my life ill die

i have been considering my own private writing challenge where i write and post something like 5,000 words weekly, and i have been trying to figure out whether it would be better to try to do this as 5,000 word chapters of a longer fic or 5,000 word ficlets? i think either would be helpful for me personally. on the one hand writing something that begins and ends in 5,000 words would be new for me, but also when i write longer fics i tend to start at the end and work backwards so being forced to write chronologically would be interesting too. idk. i'm still mulling this over.

i had a dream i was writing fanfiction. like in the dream i was just on my laptop typing away. and that was it.

i'm having a lot of trouble deciding what to work on next. my wip list is some outlined fic ideas and some half-written fics. i have two star wars wips that would fall on the shorter end of things (~10k probably). i've outlined (yet another) hualian time loop idea (no idea how long it would be. 50k maybe?). and i've had an atla post canon fic on the back burner for a very long time...

"we'd need each other in every universe." yeah, we don't meet each other in all of them. in that one you died in infancy, and i lived to feel a presence at my shoulder, a flickering in the corner of my eye, always looking for someone who'd never come. in that other one i was a piano repairman and your instrument kept inexplicably going out of tune, but my name never jumped out at you from the yellow pages.

there's a world with the two of us against it.

there's one where you brought reinforcements too late and the enemy overwhelmed me and my brothers in arms.

there's another where you left a letter at the finish line and i lived to receive it but not to come back home.

one of us drowned and the other knew how to swim. one of me passed the salt to one of you, and that was the extent of the need.

it is very funny that the greens have one (1) child total and that since she's a girl and since aegon's cock exploded they are doomed to have another succession crisis in the future that would only make them look like hypocrites. like yes i, aegon, am the rightful king because my older half sister is a GIRL. please ignore that my only heir is also a girl. meanwhile rhaenyra is somehow only capable of giving birth to boys. she has nothing but patriarchy approved heirs. except for the bastardy obviously. but even if the people rejected jace and joffrey well look i've got all these other silver haired boys via daemon. it's just all so ironic and stupid. and i love it.

i do have a lot of thoughts about hotd and they are mostly positive but. i understand the people who feel disappointed. the main focus of the season at least to my eyes was very much character development which is my favorite thing in the whole wide world and i adored it. at first i was annoyed by how much time we were spending with daemon because i hate him as a person but what they did with him i actually felt was very satisfying and all that character work really paid off. and obviously i'm obsessed with all the rhaenyra and jacaerys scenes. anyway what i'm saying is this was a very character heavy, setting up, ruminating season. and the finale felt like when they found out they had 8 episodes to work with instead of 10 they were like okay. just don't air the last two episodes then. like it didn't feel like a conclusion in any sense. which i don't really mind because in the long run if they just pick up where they left off next season i will be infinitely happier than if they had compromised the integrity of the story to crunch together more events in quick succession to rush to a conclusion. if that makes sense.

i think eventually we're all just gonna have to come to terms with the fact that it's impossible to tell a story with any degree of subtlety or nuance without risking a portion of the audience taking the "wrong message", and that's ok. art isn't meant to be strictly a teaching tool, and if you're goal is just to convince people or critique an idea, just write an essay or a polemic
