Dear fans, dear Football Germany,

After more than 15 years and 124 international appearances, today marks the end of my career with the German national team.

Anyone who knows me understands that I didn't make this decision lightly. I feel great physically, and of course, the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico was very tempting. However, after many detailed and lengthy discussions with my family and friends, I have decided that now is the right time to close the chapter with our national team.

When I look back today, I feel proud and grateful especially because we were able to fulfill our big dream on 13 July 2014, when we became world champions together in Brazil. For a total of 7 years and 61 games, until my injury, I had the honor of leading the German national team onto the pitch as captain. It was an honour that I always appreciated anew.

This year's European Championship in Germany was another highlight, even if, unfortunately, we fell short of winning the title. I felt a very special sense of euphoria and solidarity throughout the country at every moment. Let's keep that spirit alive.

Many thanks to all the staff, coaches, and players who have supported me since my debut with the national team on 2nd June 2009!

And I would especially like to thank you, dear fans, for supporting me over the years!

I loved wearing the jersey of our national team.

not that anybody is looking at this blog but hrgh i have been completely overrun by hot singles in my area and i literally can't go through any of my notifs. idk why they're following my sideblogs specifically bc i barely get any on my main ones but holy shit it's like at least 5 a day and it's so tedious to go through and copy and paste every single url
