ok so i was just thinking about the rots scene when obi-wan shows up on mustafar. obi-wan did not go to mustafar with the intention to fight anakin, he went there to try and bring him back. as obi-wan is getting off, he is horrified as to what he is witnessing. a man choking the woman that obi-wan knew anakin could never hurt. he realized then and there, that this wasnt anakin, this was solely darth vader. he watched as everything he knew crumbled before his eyes. he watched his fallen padawan, friend, his brother, seduced by the dark side, blinded by his lust for power, the power to save padme from what he had just caused.

anakin telling obi-wan that it wasnt his fault. he knew how much this affected him, and deep down anakin still cared. he needed to give obi-wan at least a little bit of closure, in telling him that he didnt kill his former self, and that he never failed him. you can see anakins eyes change, you can still see the love for his old master behind all the hatred and anger, it was still in there. anakin was still in there

the fact that these dynamics are completely canon:
obi-wan and luke when they first met: obi-wan recues luke from tuskens when he trespassed their territory. luke and obi-wan have a polite conversation about the jedi. obi-wan gives anakin's lightsaber to luke as a gift.
obi-wan and leia when they first met: leia punches obi-wan in the stomach ON SIGHT. obi-wan rescues leia while she says "I dont trust you" to his face. leia wants to make obi-wan prove he's a jedi by provoking him with her sassy comments. obi-wan is forced to buy leia gloves after just one warning look from the kid.

THIS.
The kenobi series really brought out the distinction between Darth Vader and Anakin, and I absolutely adore it! Itās sort of like Anakin is trapped, per se, and heās just stuck inside of whatever Vader is now. And there is just a little bit if Anakin left; a little bit if good,(for when he saves Luke), but not enough to stop Vader right now.
Itās like Anakin is calling for help, (he looked so sad when that mask broke; you could see it in his eyes; even if it was just for a moment) but Vader isnāt going to do anything about that. He wonātāhe canāt! So heās trying to kill that little bit of Anakin left inside him.
And see, the love he had for Obi-Wan stays with him no matter what. Vader hates that he still loves Obi-Wan! He hates he canāt kill him! He hates it to his core! And in his core, somewhere, is Anakin.
Vader wants to kill Obi-Wan so he can finally kill Anakin. Because as long as Obi-Wanās alive, heās going to remain āweakā, and Darth canāt afford that. Not with dried up raisin Palpatine already suspicious about his loyalties. (Well, heās probably not all that suspicious anymore; after the duel Vader and Obi just had I think it would be inevitable for Sidious to see how much Vader still cares for Kenobi.)
All in allā beautifully done! Beautiful work! Amazing character arcs! Thank you Ms.Deborah Chow!! You have just added on another 10 years to my life.

Iām sorry but SW is not about Padmeās and Anakins love story.
Itās about fucking Anakin and Obi-Wans ālove storyā*. Their story is everything. Their love, their pain and hate for one another, how each canāt find peace. How they are two halves of the same sword. Their bond is so strong they can feel each other, Obi-Wan can feel Anakinās kids.
ā They are closer than friends. Closer than brothers. The war has forged their two lives into one.ā- Revenge of the Sith Novel Quotes
You can see how much they are consumed by this bond when Anakin keeps searching for Kenobi 10 years later, when obi-wan was unable to deliver the killing blow whenĀ saw Anakinās face, his true self under the mask. You can see it when he was reduced to tears. When Darth called him āMasterā and said it wasnāt his fault.
Their relationship is for me, the most important of all of star Wars.
* love story : I mean not romantically, but they love each other with immense intensity and they were one for a long time, they were a team, they were family.

Anakin's gone
The way the light changes and turns from blue to red.
The Dark Side replaces the light in the heart of Anakin Skywalker.
The inner conflict in Darth Vader.

vader saying "he was an old man who thought he could help gifted children" in gillen's darth vader run vs obi-wan breaking down in the desert saying "i only wanted to help." vader knowing that obi-wan had wanted to help him, and killing him because he couldn't stand knowing he never let it happen. the short story where all yoda can sense from vader after obi-wan dies is unfathomable loneliness. obi-wan agonizing over the fact that all he wanted to do was help a lost and gifted kid he met by chance, and he doesn't know where the cracks showed up. in the ROTS novelization, obi-wan's first statement after watching the security tapes of anakin slaughtering jedi, and his first statement is wishing someone had shot him before he could see, and the next is wishing he never brought anakin to coruscant.
it's preteen anakin in rogue planet earnestly telling obi-wan he's the best jedi ever, and obi-wan stays silent. it's later in that same book where obi-wan looks at his sleeping charge and wonders if the affection he feels is how fathers feel about their sons. it's anakin saying obi-wan is the closest thing he has to a father, and then in the AOTC novelization obi-wan asks him, "then why don't you listen to me?" and the comic where obi-wan tells anakin he thinks anakin is part droid, and then tells him it wasn't a compliment. it's anakin feeling like obi-wan was holding him back because anakin just wants more and more. it's obi-wan in jedi quest letting his thirteen year old drive. it's anakin in the gambit duology watching obi-wan be emotionally loving to taria and getting wickedly, viciously angry because obi-wan's love is lying to him. it's obi-wan defining himself by how much he believes in anakin. it's obi-wan in labyrinth of evil joking that qui-gon should've left anakin in slavery. it's obi-wan offering to leave the jedi order just to be with anakin, if that's what anakin needed. it's anakin losing faith enough in obi-wan that by ROTS, palpatine is the father he chooses, when obi-wan still believed in him. it's the force showing vader that if he went back to obi-wan, obi-wan would still call him anakin. it's also me fucking crying in this bitch

he just wanted to see him again
Every day and every night he violated every principle the Jedi had taught him about staying in the present moment, about acceptance. Going over every argument, every talk, to find the key that he should have turned to unlock the secrets of Anakin's heart.
