“Look I eventually asked. I wasn’t all bad.” He grumbled to him as he chucked another can at him. “So, hush.”
He slapped the can away, hard enough to send it back in Bakura’s direction. “Still, you’re choosing to be an annoying brat. Grumpy butt. You’d make some great competition for that meme, Grumpy Cat.”

Well that was disappointing. “No, I just prefer you to not be a rude little shit and stare at me.”
“The first one to be a rude little shit was you, who stole my body and made me do things I didn’t want to do. You should look in the mirror before you try to come for someone.”

The reason TKB is buff and Ryou Bakura is a wimp is because TKB responded to being horribly traumatized with power-seeking and hardening himself and developing a disregard for others so he could not be hurt again while Bakura responded to being horribly traumatized by doing the human equivalent of playing dead like an opossum in the hopes that if he is polite and demure enough the universe won’t do anything too terrible to him again. Parallel w/ Atem who hides his anxiety and low self-esteem with a confident façade of brash showmanship and rage and Yugi who copes with powerlessness by folding himself into someone shyer and smaller than he wants to be. in this essay i will

Why kaiba invented solid vision in the manga: the shadow game i played with yugi made me feel alive, and despite nearly dying it was one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had in my trauma filled life. I will go to the absolute limits of technology to recreate that experience.
Why kaiba invented solid vision in the anime: this card games fun, but yknow what its missing? RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE HOLOGRAMS THATS WHAT!!!!

After the Pharaoh left the room, Isis looked down in wonder at the man on the cushions. Was this really the same man as before? His features stated that he was, but his complete shift in demeanor was what confounded her. She didn’t believe that their king had raised a hand against the pale, petite man, indeed the injuries she was summoned to see to had likely been ones sustained from his previous master. So what had caused this change?
“I do not see a need for healing as a waste of time, fret not of it,” was her answer as she knelt close beside the pale man. “No payment is required, I do however ask that you let me know if something I do hurts. I will be hovering my hands over you and using magic to get a feel of the injuries you have. Please stay as relaxed as you can.”
With that she called her magic to her hands, the task made easy through long years of practice before hovering her palms over the young man below. Her thoughts however, strayed back to the change in this man’s demeanor toward the Pharaoh once again even as she concentrated on her task. What had been said between them to cause this shift, she wondered. And what was it about this man that so drew the Pharaoh’s attention. It had to be something more than just the similar hair and the fact he was so clearly exotic.
There had been many foreigners that come and gone from the palace. None of them had seemed to catch their king’s attention, but this one did. To ask this foreign man himself would be an insult. And she didn’t want his demeanor possibly changing back to what it had been before. Probably for the best to leave the inner questions to be for now. Besides, the answers would be revealed in due time she was sure.
Now, she was a assigned a task and blinked when she found several areas that could and would cause pain to anyone.
“Ah, I have found the cause of pain. Not only is there deep bruising but pinched nerves and pulled muscles as well. I can heal it for you, but it may be uncomfortable until I have finished. I apologize if it is.”
She planned to do so regardless of what Yuugi said, her Pharaoh was expecting of her. But she felt it necessary to give him a warning ahead of time. So now that her warning was given, the magic changed to become healing rather than scanning as she moved her palms to hover over the areas she spoke of.
Meanwhile, Atemu stood outside the room, though he wasn’t so far outside it that he couldn’t just make out everything being said. Pinched nerves, pulled muscles and deep bruising? Gods, no wonder he’d been so uncomfortable. Just those things by themselves could be very painful on their own. But all of them together?
Hopefully, the healing process wouldn’t cause any pain for Yuugi. Or if it did, it was minimal and over quickly.
The scanning felt weird, but it was nothing more than an odd buzz, a tingling sensation. Perhaps that was what it felt like when energy transferred from one being to the next. Yuugi wasn’t entirely sure on that, but he just relaxed and waited for Isis to do as she needed. He sighed when she came back with her diagnosis, giving him no time to voice any oppositions before she got to work.
“Ouch!” Yuugi hugged the pillows beneath him, tighter, at the feeling. It was sore and rather an annoying feeling, a constant irritation that he couldn’t wriggle away from. “Does it have to sting so much?” he grumbled, before hiding his face in one of those pillows, his shoulders tense.
Yuugi didn’t consider himself as one with a high pain tolerance. Despite constant beatings from bullies and all the other harrowing trials his body had been put through, just because he could keep standing back up didn’t mean he was unaffected by the pain. If he had a choice in the matter, he would have whined and cried his way through it, yet even still, Yuugi knew that doing such things wouldn’t help and there’d still be expectations of him.
It was how he was able to dance while in such pain, to begin with.
“No offense, but there really should be some spells developed to numb the injured areas beforehand; I can’t imagine many people can sit still and take this,” Yuugi huffed, softly. It was clear he wasn’t mad at the Priestess for doing her job, just irritated with the situation as he prayed for it to be over, soon.

“You are a merciless tyrant. And I curse you to my final breath.”
“With all due respect, you know nothing of ruling such creatures.”
“Surely we cannot stay there. People whisper that he is a… vampire.”
“I wonder, would you make deals with devils to protect your kingdom?”
“I know these lands better than most. I needn’t an army to defend me.”
“There’s nothing wise in starting a war with the magical, your highness.”
“Must we invite the fae, your majesty? They always cause such trouble.”
“And she claimed she saw mermaids in the moat. I don’t think she’s well.”
“It’s not bandits you need fear out here. There’s creatures more dangerous.”
“A ruler such as yourself should not play with powers you do not understand.”
“They townsfolk, they mutter about you, highness. They say you are not human.”
“The halls of this castle are rumored haunted. Are you sure you wish to stay here?”
“You have already ensured there is no place for beings such as us before your throne.”
“A royal like you shouldn’t be out here. These woods are rumored to be full of nightmarish monsters.”

Noticing Trauma sentence starters
Feel free to alter dialogue to suit your muse!
“That really spooked you.”
“I don’t want to pry, but.. I want you to know I also want to listen, if you want someone to talk to.”
“Well, pretend I’m not here. What would you say if nobody could hear it?”
“Does this happen a lot?”
“Hey, what happened between you two?”
“When is the last time you ate?”
“Is this okay?”
“Hey.”
“This is the third meal you’ve missed this week, are you okay?”
“[Name]?”
“What did he/she/they do?”
“This … hurts you.”
“You don’t feel safe, here.”
“When you look at [trigger], you… what is that?”
“What can I do?”
“You were crying in your sleep.”
“What do you dream about?”
“Whenever you get stressed, you do this thing with your hands. What is it?”
“You’re right, I don’t understand, yet. Will you help me?”
“Should I leave a light on for you?”
“I brought you some water.”
“I won’t judge you.”
“It doesn’t have anything to do with trust. You don’t have to tell me. But I’ll listen, if you do.”
“Count your breaths with me, okay? Ready? One, two, three, four…”
“I’m here.”
“Talk to me.”
“You don’t need to tell me everything. I just want to know how I can help.”
“Let me hold your hair back, at least.”
“You used to love that [item].”

Yuugi’s reaction didn’t surprise him as much as it probably should have as scarlet eyes followed the other man’s movements. A pale hand mirrored what his own had done and pressed against his chest, where Atemu knew Yuugi’s heart to be. Did he feel that familiarity as well? Perhaps for more reason than just because he so resembled the man that Yuugi had spoken of before with such affection? Or was that too hopeful?
Whatever the case may be, he was relieved to see the pale man finally move to make himself comfortable and relax. And Atemu surprised even himself when he chuckled at what could only be considered a teasing remark from the man in his company. Quite the nice and very welcome change from the tense atmosphere that had surrounded them only moments before.
“I hope you will keep my secret then,” he answered, putting a finger to his lips in a shushing gesture as he winked. “I can’t have anyone dying of shock.”
He saw the wince that crossed the beautiful features and moved his eyes away from his companion to look beyond him toward the doorway. What was keeping the physician? His eyes returned to Yuugi when he spoke to him again and was teased once again and even as Atemu smiled warmly at him, his words were serious.
“I have a feeling that there’s much more to you than just being a dancer. Will you tell me how you came to be in Kemet from Nihon?” he added, moving to a more comfortable position himself.
Though in his case, he was already reclined back so he propped himself up with an elbow, his cheek resting against his fist. It seemed he’d gotten his request granted when he asked Yuugi to let him know him. Before he could say anything else however, the physician finally arrived and Atemu nodded and stood up once again.
“I’ll be just outside the room to give you privacy,” he assured. “Isis, give him something for the pain if you can. Or use your magic.”
“Yes, my Pharaoh.”
Then with one more glance at Yuugi, Atemu was moving toward the door that separated the sitting area from his bedchamber.
Thankfully, Yuugi was spared answering the question he didn’t want to, having only smiled more at Atemu’s teasing. Ah, he missed this. Just talking with the other, sharing jokes, lightly teasing each other. Maybe it was possible for a soul to span universes. Maybe it was possible to not betray the Atemu Yuugi knew by allowing himself to be close to the Atemu he was with, now. Whatever the case, he didn’t move when Atemu got up, but made a face of distaste.
It wasn’t that he disliked Isis (he didn’t really know her, beyond what he’d seen in Atemu’s memories), it was just that Yuugi never liked working with doctors or, in this case, healers. It always was an unpleasant process. At least there weren’t any needles involved, now.
He looked to Atemu as if to silently both plead for Yuugi to be spared this, but also to silently decry the man for putting Yuugi through it, before he sighed and tried to relax.
“I’m sorry to trouble you, Priestess Isis. I think our gracious Pharaoh is more concerned that what is called for, so if it turns out that this is a waste of your time, I will do what I can to repay you,” Yuugi told the woman, sheepish and embarrassed. He really didn’t see the need for any of it. He suffered worse beatings without treatment, before. He doubted his most recent paddling was bad enough to cause for treatment, even if it hurt a whole hell of a lot. Deep tissue bruises were Yuugi’s new number one enemy.
“Of course, I’ll have to repay the Pharaoh, as well, for looking out for me,” he added, hoping he was doing this right. People were supposed to kiss the Pharaoh’s royal behind, right? Even to the point of overdoing it. Yuugi just... wasn’t entirely sure how to properly kiss anyone’s behind.
