Excerpt, complete poem under the cut.
Still dream
Some days You wake up, immune to the Lies of yesterday; The words that have lead you astray From yourself, and every inner realm You used to shape. For a moment you are weightless, And in the absence of weight, you Come to understand gravity's graveness. How did you become so prostrate? You used to be able to bend your body in All kinds of different ways. Free, not to be Absolved from this Gnawing of undesirably answered questions By routine movements; the familiar ease Of bounds and restrictions: predictability. Yet, some days, you wake up, Then it is in a moment of weightlessness You are glad you still dream. Empowered, Clandestine, your soul will not be Muzzled and cuffed so easily; that it speaks Your tongue alone, And so unapologetically: You Matter.

I started calling that girl back.
The girl who loved living,
the girl who danced instead of walking.
The girl who had sunflowers for eyes
and fireworks in her soul.
I started playing music again,
hoping she would come out.
I started looking for beautiful moments
to experience,
so she would feel safe enough
to show herself,
because I knew she was in there.
And she needed my kindness
and my effort to come to the
surface again

Just because you don't have a "thing" to show for all your hard work, does not mean you weren't working very hard. Plenty of things like clarity, knowledge, or balance, are not tangible, but very worthwhile

“I always say that Taylor Swift has taught me more about my own power than anyone else,” she says. “I grew up making myself small to make men feel bigger. Taylor Swift is unapologetic in her ambition. She stands strong. This generation is learning a lot from her.”
— Jody Gerson, CEO of Universal Music Publishing Group, on what she’s learned from Taylor (x)

It really does get better. It gets better slowly, and it's never linear, but it does get better. Remember that you're on an upward trajectory even when it doesn't feel like it.

You're going to look back one day and be so proud of yourself. You are overcoming so much, even if it doesn't feel like it. Your future self is rooting for you.

You don't have to force yourself to bounce back so quickly. I read something recently that said "when you come in from a rainstorm, you don't expect yourself to be dry and warm right away", and it really resonated with me. It's okay to take time to dry off and warm up. Take the time you need to process what happened to you.
