A LOT of people liked my SilkWing metamorphosis headcanon and I was inspired to make a lil comic about it!! Thank you to everyone who’s left kind comments. I’m posting this from work so I don’t have a lot of time, but I’ll try and write up an image ID asap!

OP mentioned checking your meds already but I REALLY want to emphasize that. Stimulant ADHD medication, some antidepressants, and even some OTC allergy pills can raise your basal body temperature or make you more vulnerable to heat exhaustion. I used to work at an amusement park in the border south and had to go to the nurse building multiple times to recover from the heat, and it took weeks for me to figure out my meds were making it worse. And on that point: ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF. If you’re doing ANY outdoor activity—work, sports, marching band for all I care—do NOT try to “push through.” Tell someone you need to cool down and get to a shaded/air conditioned place immediately. Tell them BEFORE you’re already on the verge of fainting. If you’re comfortable disclosing it/if it’s safe to, tell your supervisors/friends/whoever if you have a condition or take medicine that puts you at risk. Rest until you feel better, and then rest a little longer. There’s no shame in taking a good, long break or asking to go home, because your priority (and theirs) should be your safety. My anxious teenage ass was scared to ask for help until I realized there was so much more on the line than whether or not I gave my coworkers their breaks. Someone else could take care of them—I had to take care of myself, and so should you.

For all of the northerners that stood up for Texas during our freeze and said, "Don't make fun of them, they've never dealt with this before. Their infrastructure isn't made for snow and freezing."

Where I live 108°F with 80% humidity with no wind is normal.

Pacific North West is dealing historic best waves 35-40°C or 95-105°F.

First of all. Don't make fun of them for bitching about the heat. Just like Texas isn't built for a freeze and our pipes burst, Pacific North West isn't built for heat and a lot of their homes don't have AC.

If you live somewhere with a high humidity like 80+ HUMIDITY IS NOT YOUR FRIEND. The "humidity makes it feel cooler" is a lie once it gets beyond a point.

If you live somewhere with a lower humidity, misters are nice to cool off outside.

Once you get over 90°F (32°C) a fan will not help you. It's just pushing around hot air. (I mean if you can't afford a small AC unit because they're expensive as hell, by all means a fan is better than nothing).

If you have pets, those portable AC units aren't safe. If your pets destroy the outtake thing, it'll leak CO2. Window units are safer.

Window AC units will let mosquitoes or other small bugs in. Sucks, but that's life.

Now is not the time to me modest. If you have to cover for religious reasons, by all means. If you don't, I've seen people wear short shorts and a swim top. It's not trashy if it keeps you from getting heat stroke.

If you do have to cover up for religious reasons, look for elephant pants or something similar. They're made with a breathable material.

Shade is better than no shade, but that shit it just diet sun after some point. Don't think shade will save you from heat stroke.

I know the "drink your water" is a fun meme now, but if you're sweating excessively you need electrolytes. Drink Gatorade, Powerade, or Pedialite PLEASE. I don't care if you're fucking sitting in one spot all day. That shit WILL save you from heat stroke.

Most importantly. RESEARCH THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEAT STROKE AND HEAT EXHAUSTION PLEASE!

If you're diabetic and can't drink Gatorade, mix water, fruit juice, and either lite salt or pink salt

If you can afford it, cover windows with thick curtains to insulate the house

If you have tile floors, lay on them with skin to tile contact. If you don't, laying your head on cool counters works too.

If the temperature where you're at is hotter than your body temperature, don't wear heat wicking clothing. Moisture wicking is safe though.

Check your medication labels. Many make you more susceptible to sun and heat

-Room temperature water will get into your body faster. This is something I learned doing marching band in high summer in Georgia, and it saved all of our asses. Sip it, don't gulp it, especially if you're getting into the red; same goes for whatever fluid you're drinking. And just in general drink during the day.

-If you are moving from an air conditioned space to an un-air conditioned space, if at all possible try to make the shift gradual. When my dad and I were working outside and in un-ac houses a few years ago, he'd turn the air down to low in the truck about ten-fifteen minutes before we got where we were going. This way your body doesn't go from low low temps to high temps. S'bad for you.

-If you can, keep your lights off during the day. Light bulbs may not generate a lot of heat, but the difference is noticeable when it gets hot enough. I literally only turn my bedroom light on in the evening when it gets too dark.

Don't be afraid to just like... pour water on yourself if you need to. The evaporation will cool you off.

Put your hand to the cement for 15 seconds. If you can't handle the heat, it'll burn your dog's paws. Don't let them walk on it.

Dogs with flat faces are more prone to heat stroke. Don't leave them out unsupervised.

Frozen fruit is delicious in water.

Wet/Cold hat/handkerchief on your head/neck will help you stay cool.

Pickle juice is great for electrolytes! You can even make pickle juice Popsicles!

Heat exhaustion is more, "drink water and get you cooled off." Heat stroke is more "Oh my god call 911."

SilkWing metamorphosis takes a huge toll on the body. A dragonet has to grow an entire set of wings in only six days—how do they do it? Unlike caterpillars, SilkWings’ bodies don’t change enough to warrant turning into soup. Instead, the body enters a trance state, slowing down most metabolic processes except those needed to grow a pair of wings. Said wings are delicate, supported mostly by cartilage rather than bone. This makes them extra light and agile. A SilkWing’s cocoon regulates the humidity around them, creating an ideal environment for the growing and healing process. It also protects them from temperature fluctuations, lessening strain on the body.

Growing wings also takes energy. LOTS of energy. Prior to Wasp’s reign, SilkWing diets were well studied and pre-metamorphosis “bulking” was common practice. In the month or two leading up to metamorphosis, a SilkWing’s appetite increases tenfold. Communities would host small feasts and “foraging parties” for their dragonets to ensure a healthy transition. Candied nuts, grilled grubs, and pollen cakes were especially popular for their nutritional density. Unfortunately, contemporary medicine was dominated by HiveWings for decades, resulting in the erasure of this knowledge. Hungry SilkWing dragonets were brushed off as “needy” and metamorphosis recovery times increased. Without the energy stores, their bodies broke down essential tissues for energy, leaving many dragonets malnourished and sick after metamorphosing.

With the establishment of the LeafSilk kingdom, things have changed for the better. Cricket and Malachite have organized hundreds of dragons to search the wreckage of the Hives for books, documents, anything that tells the true history of Pantala. The elderly Flamesilks, now free, tell Blue stories from before the tree wars and fret over him like a grandchild. He always returns home well-fed. Mandrake pours over old field guides and maps, working with Sundew to restore the food sources Pantala thrived on all those years ago.

And when Dusky’s wingbuds start to grow, the Flamesilks put every dragon to work gathering food for a grand feast, the first of the Leafsilk kingdom.

Sorry to everyone who followed me for Wings of Fire content I am OBSESSED with this weird ass car

I need Moonkit to be WEIRD and that’s why she is made a medicine cat

She collects the bones of prey off the freshkill pile, picking them clean and drying them, and piling them in a secret place. Let her look over the mouse skulls and the bird legs and the squirrel tail and arrange them in dizzying patterns. This will bring us more prey, she purrs.

She collects dead bugs, placing them around camp, under nests and in high nooks and low crannies. Someone asks her why, and she says that they watch over the clan.

She takes sturdy twigs and carves and chews and claws swirling marks into them. These she puts on the borders, or begs the patrols to do, to ward off the other clans.

The clan is indulgent, to a degree. And then the little odd things start working.

Someone clears out her bones, to her wailing protests, and suddenly prey is scarce. Another cat helps her strip a mouse, to get all the meat for the hungry clan, and lets her have the bones. And suddenly prey is plentiful again.

The medicine cat is fretting about low supplies, and gingerly moves a ladybug, dead a whole season, out of their way. Suddenly the ladybug springs to life, and they follow it to a lush patch of needed herbs.

A warrior places a carved stick at the border, chuckling to themselves but also impressed by the sheer amount of work the kit put into it. A few days later, a border scuffle is stopped before it starts, when another clan’s warrior trips on the stick, and they stomp off humiliated.

And yes, Moonpaw talks to the Moonpool, yes she hears its voice. But she was always strange.

Hello Warrior Cats community,

I haven’t picked up a Warriors book in years, but I’m obsessed with Tumblr’s new favorite girlfailure and I would like to join the headcanon train!! Idrk who Nightheart and Sunbeam are but I see a lot of speculation that she’s their kit. Despite this, I think it’d be cool if she were in Windclan, as Windclan is said to have the closest connection with Starclan (but I have no clue if that’s still canon/acknowledged.) Based on my vague knowledge of Sol, I think he could be the voice in her head pushing her to break the clans’ connection with Starclan and embrace him as their spiritual guide free themselves and their ancestors from their useless code. I’m a BIG fan of the “moonpool is a place full of eldritch horror” thing we’ve collectively agreed upon, as well as the idea that without a site for Starclan to communicate through, that burden is placed onto this poor random apprentice. Also into Moon^2, but if Moonpaw makes friends with any cat on the other side I hope it’s Leafpool because I think that’d be really beautiful!! I also hope she connects with/seeks out MothWing. Final hopes are that Moonpaw is a little weirdo and she doesn’t get a boring love interest—at the very least, I think any relationships she has (romantic or otherwise) should be complicated by the fact that she’s Plagued By Visions, especially if those visions are controversial.

Happy WIP Wednesday everyone! I’ve been working on an illustration of The Lost Heir cover in the style of an old VHS/DVD case. My main inspirations have been The Little Mermaid and The Land Before Time. I’m really happy with how it looks so far, but I’m extra busy this summer so progress is slow.

The Power of Sky 🌩️🌼

Harpy is a SkyWing animus who’s part of a future AU I made a while back. This art is a little old, but I think it holds up. I’ve been thinking about this AU more lately and I’ll probably come back to it.

In short, Harpy discovered their powers when they were a dragonet. Not knowing that magic was banned in the Sky kingdom, they excitedly showed it off by enchanting a field of flowers to bloom. They were sentenced to death the very same day. However, a NightWing dragonet born beneath blood moons had a vision of Harpy’s death and convinced her tribe’s prince to go save them. Harpy grew up in the rainforest alongside the NightWings and RainWings. Eventually, they become a key player in a continental war.

The NightWing dragonet who saw Harpy’s death has had a few names, including Bloodmoon and Warteller. I’d like to give her something different—maybe Omen? Sanguine? Who knows! She and Harpy have a tense relationship, made worse by the fact that they’re pining for each other. The NightWing feels responsible for putting Harpy in a difficult situation, while Harpy struggles to be loyal to anyone in the face of war.

Man, I was as much of a Warriors kid as the next guy, but I really can’t get back into the series and I think it’s because the Cat Religion REALLY puts me off. Like, I’ve already got problems with authority, I could never be loyal to a clan. And THEN you’re gonna tell me that God is a bunch of cats REAL and will HATE me if I don’t follow their rules? Where’s my heretical rogues that fight for their own place in the afterlife and like live in clanless society or whatever. Maybe that already happened idk I haven’t read the books in a while
