Scenic Beauty
Himadri Range The Himadri mountain range is visible from different parts of the Kashmir Great Lakes Trekas it is home to the Kashmir Valley. People call the Himadri Range as the Greater Himalayas. Amarnath and Harmukh peaks are the primary attractions of the Himadri range.
Nichnaie Valley The Kashmir Great Lakes Trek is full of many valleys, of which, the Nichnaie Valley attracts most of the tourists and trekkers because of the stunning views of the Nichnaie Pass and Nichnaie Lake. Various wildflowers also play an important role in making the valley look beautiful.
Vishnusar Lake The Vishnusar is a glacial lake which is formed by the melting of ice during the spring and summer. It is a twin lake along with the Kishansar Lake. The location of the lakes offers amazing scenery, along with the surrounding mountains, to the trekkers.
Harmukh Glacier While trekking towards Gangbal from Satsar, we reach the Zach Pass, which hits the trekkers with the views of the Harmukh mountain. The Harmukh Glacier forms the slope of the Harmukh Mountain, which is reflected on the twin lakes of Gangbal and Nundkul.
Challenges during the trek
Despite the natural beauty of the Kashmir Great Lakes trek, there are many challenges along the way. Trekkers need to be aware of difficulties related to altitude, weather, and terrain. The Discovery Hike Team will ensure that each trekker gets proper guidance and knowledge about the obstacles.
Altitude The Sonmarg valley sits at around 7800 feet which is the lowest part of the trek. The Kashmir Great Lakes trek ascends to 13,800 feet, where the Gadsar Pass is located.  Some trekkers might feel headaches and nausea and suffer from Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). The trekkers should maintain a slow and gradual ascent while following the instructions of the Trek Leaders along the way. Proper acclimatization of the body can prevent the trekkers from being a victim of AMS.
Weather The Kashmir Great Lakes trek is usually attempted during the summer and the monsoon seasons due to pleasant weather and favourable temperatures throughout the day. But there is always a risk of a sudden drop in temperature or sudden rainfall. This can make things difficult for the trekkers as trails may get slippery, visibility may get reduced and temperatures can be freezing. The trekkers should carry extra warm clothes for emergenciesand also be well-equipped for overcoming challenging weather conditions. The DiscoveryHike Team will provide briefing about all the possible challenges and the trekkers are expected to follow the guidelines set by the Trek Leaders.
Terrain The Trek has been graded as moderately difficult primarily because of the diverse geographical elements along the trail. There are narrow passes, loose rocks and steep climbs in different parts of the trek. The trekkers will also have to cross multiple glacial streams, which can be challenging because of the freezing temperature of the water and the slippery surface of the bedrock, therefore, the trekkers should have good fitness and prior experience in overcoming similar circumstances. Although the trek leaders will guide you through the tricky patches of the trek, you should have good mental stability to get through these challenging situations.
Preparation The natural beauty of Kashmir can be overwhelming and can pull your attention again and again but you should never forget about preparation before coming to the Kashmir Great Lakes trek. When it comes to preparation, for a trek, people only consider the physical aspect of the training. But, the mental preparation, before any trek, is equally important as it provides mental clarity and stability to face adverse conditions.
Physical Training
✓ Focusing on cardiovascular strength is the most important thing while preparing your body for a trek. This will help the trekkers to walk for multiple hours throughout the day. Some exercises include running, swimming, jogging and walking. The trekkers Should set a target of running 5 kilometres within 35 minutes for the Kashmir Great Lakes trek.
✓ Upper body, lower body and core strength are also essential for carrying a heavy backpack for multiple days without any strain or injury. Some of the exercises for strength training involve squats, lunges, planks and push-ups.
✓ Yoga is a good way to increase mobility and flexibility in the body. Basic stretching exercises should also be included before and after the mentioned exercises.
✓ Pranayama can also be involved as part of the routine as it helps to increase the lung capacity and prepare the body for low oxygen scenarios.
Mental Training
✓ Meditation is a great way to increase your mental strength and develop the right mindset for any trek. Practising mindfulness meditation regularly will help the trekkers overcome different obstacles along the trail of the Kashmir Great Lakes trek.
✓ Affirmations and visualizations regarding the successful completion of the trek can also help the trekkers to be in the right mindset before starting the trek.

Kuari Pass Trek: Exploring the horizon
Sometimes life feels so clogged with all the monotony people stay buried in. our roots fading into the constant flow of time. modernity engulfed humanity and took away the natural resonance of humans to this universe. cars, pollution, electricity, and social media are some major clogs to this resonance.
In order to unclog myself from all the negativity, I set up on a quest to find the ethereal ambience of life I have been looking for. That’s when I got to go on a trek to the Himalayas and every time I go there, something inside me changes. This is the tale of the Kuari Pass Trek.
Day 1: Dehradun to Tugasi
As I reached Dehradun, I felt my spirits uplifting into the air, I was so anxious about what would happen next, as I was a solo traveller and a teenager a long way from home. We had to meet the driver provided by Himalaya Shelter. It was 7 in the morning, and we were loading our luggage into the vehicle.
We started our journey around 8 in the morning, There was a group of 12 people, including me. we introduced ourselves along the journey. we travelled along the mountain terrain with the air getting chilly as we approached the proximity of The Himalayas. We stopped for lunch at a restaurant and had a hearty meal. We boarded the vehicle and had a good nap till we reached Tugasi village where the trek was about to start.
Day 2: Tugasi to Guiling
we woke up early the next morning and after having a hearty breakfast, we set out to trek the mesmerizing Himalayan terrain. I forgot to switch my charging port switch on and my phone’s dead for the entire trek.
As we started ascending, we bid farewell to the small village which hosted us with a bright, hospitable glee. the first magnificent sight I got to see was paddy and wheat fields slowly oscillating to the motion produced by the winds. I thought I was gonna be bored without a phone, but the tropical birds whistling were music to my ears along with the occasional harmonious sound of streams rushing down the mountains.
Our team leader was kind enough to give me enough breaks to catch my breath. whenever I felt thirsty, I quenched my thirst using the fresh Himalayan water rushing down, it was refreshing, and I felt like I was back in touch with my ancestors who used to survive out in the wilderness. after trekking through the thick patches of alpine coverings, with occasional panoramic views of Mount Kamet and other monstrous peaks through the patches of pine and oak.
Day 3: Guiling to khullara
Today was a separate class in itself, we walked through patches of oak rhododendrons, Himalayan birch, and pine forests. khullara is an open meadow with an astounding view of surrounding peaks like Hathi Ghoda, Dunagiri, Nanda Devi, Trishul, and many more magnificent towering beauties.
Today was a very easy trek, We walked for an hour and had a brief pitstop on our way, and we were already walking through the clouds, It was like heaven on earth. we trekked for another hour to the summit, there was no visibility as clouds were sweeping the summit with a cold breeze. another highlight of the day was having lunch on the summit at 12,500 ft above sea level amidst the clouds. we started descending right after that, and by this time all of the company members were like a family, we shared memories, our past, our tears, and some snacks too.
Day 4: Khullara to Guilling
We woke up to the resounding tweeting of birds in the valley, acting like a natural alarm. We had scrambled eggs with bread, butter, jam, and some pancakes with honey. we started descending right after our breakfast, and I was sad as we were leaving our camp. but Mother Nature soothed my soul on our way back as we again got to listen to the ecstatic alpine forest ambience.
We went across many ice-cold Himalayan streams on our way to camp one. And I saw huge pine trees pinned to the ground due to thunder strikes. We saw a dog on our way to Camp 1, which tagged along and played with us the whole time. Our trek leader, Nithin, was skilled in explaining all the details we asked him about Kuari Pass. We made it to the camp early.
Day 5: Guiling to Tugasi
On the way down, I was depressed as I had to leave Mother Nature and return to humanity, we packed our bags and started descending after a hearty breakfast. we treaded along the mud trail of the Garhwal Himalayas. On our way back, we once again got to see the scenic paddy fields along the path, and the panorama of the Garhwal Himalayas surrounding us was breathtaking.
Day 6: Tugasi to Dehradun

The magical blue Tulian lake sitting at a whopping 12,000 ft with ice skimming on its layers is unlike any other you would encounter at the KGL trek. Miyar Valley Trek:
Elevation: 14,500 Trek distance: 63 km Location: Himachal Pradesh Duration: 9 days difficulty level: hard
Hidden across the Rohtang pass, very few people would choose this trek. Thanks to the Atal tunnel came the possibility of trekking Lahaul. Monsoons are the best time to visit this masterpiece. the S-shaped Miyar Valley rests between the Zanskar and Chamba masterpieces. It is nearly 75 km long. The Miyar Glacier itself is nearly 3km long to Kang La. At the edge of the glacier, one would find seven crystal clear blue ponds, considered to be eternal by the Buddhists. Reaching this point is a lucky endeavour, consider yourself lucky if you ever go on this trek.

Gulabi Kantha Trek: Spiritual Journey in Garhwal with Mountain views
Seasons in the Himalayas
Each season gives the mountains a different appearance through which the path goes. The rhododendron blooms in spring and it is hot enough with other flowers like alpine plants that cover meadows situated at high altitudes during summer. During autumn, Rochester’s horses would have had to be sweating so profusely from such a ride over ground light with fallen leaves; it was like an opening alliance among trees after which they gathered up those same leaves into fans while snowmen descended upon them or else disappeared beneath drifts made soft by peculiar and involuntary movements. Winter on its part might have been likened unto some pure virgin-snow-clad desolate mountain” of snow trailing across untrodden places where men might not have ventured.”
Encounter with Wildlife
Meeting animals while trekking to Gulabi Kantha enhances the cross-country trekkers with their little amazement. Himalayan monals are swimming with their flashing blue hair along the teakwood, whereas their voices resonate through the wilderness. At the same time, musk deer beautifully disappear in the rocks within their tundra lairs, and fluffs mark them as they pass by tree-tops, watching trekkers out of interest. Every such detection points out the fragile equilibrium between man and nature.
Nishni Village: Gateway to Gulabi Kantha
When you arrive at Nishni Village – that frontier post just before you climb up into Gulabi Kantha – you come face to face with the center of attraction of wide-ranging terraced lands and customary huts used by the Garhwal sheet-s kelies, where trekkers find sanctuary. The villagers sing lores of ancient Himalayan customs some often misjudge them for myth. Your private adventure in the Himalayas could start here while on a clear night sleeping under the starlight, surrounded by the smell emanating from cedars plus pine forest sounds that would evoke such diverse feelings within you about this world including life itself.
Yamuna Valley and the Temple of Yamunotri
People come from all over the world to worship in the Yamuna Valley, where the Temple of Yamunotri remains a significant marvel of belief. Built-in honor of the deity Yamunotri, the building is located just below Malathoon. This awe-striking architectural piece that has withstood all kinds of natural forces is believed to be a manifestation of God’s connection with his subjects. We have individuals from various countries, whose paths may diverge on some occasion.
Breathtaking Views from Gulabi Kantha
When you climb to the top of Gulabi Kantha, you will see a breathtaking view that extends as far as you can see. The most remarkable mountains are Bandarpunch, Shivalik, Bali Pass, and Chaukhamba, all with glittering snow-crowned peaks. In the silence of the staggering Himalayan altitudes where one can only hear and feel the cold air breeze, is where trekkers find clarity: this is their moment of reflecting upon themselves and the world around them.
Choosing the Best Season for Trekking
Selection of the appropriate season is vital to enjoying your trek in the Himalayas. September to November have clear skies and moderate temperatures which are best for seeing the mountains. On the one hand, during spring and summer, Gulabi Kantha Peak is adorned with stunning vibrant flowers rejuvenating the soul of the beholder. As it rains it is both terrifying and brain-bending as the aroma of rain-kissed mountain mud ogles your senses, but precautions have to be followed especially as it rains chances of slipping increase.
Responsible Trekking Practices
To maintain the unspoiled beauty of Gulabi Kantha, hikers need to observe the principles of responsible trekking for example minimizing littering and observing indigenous culture among other practices that promote long-term tourism. Preserving the rare species that are present in this environment will only be possible if every tourist who visits contributes to maintaining it in its natural form.
Hospitality in Hanuman Chatti
When they come down from the top of Gulabi Kantha Point hight, they are greeted in a friendly way by the village of Hanuman Chatti. This village is so different from the difficulties on the way that you can’t help but notice how poor these mountain people must be. Even when you just eat food together or talk near the fire, such acts can melt your heart like butter, especially after taking some rest under a thatched roof hut built by your guides.
Beyond Physical Effort: Emotions Healed
Gulabi Kantha trek is ultimately more than just physical effort—it is an adventure that heals emotions. Every footstep evidence of human endurance sings of the never-ending splendor in the world. Hikers feel like ants while climbing up steep rocks and resting under the majestic sun falling beyond the Himalayas. To all those desiring thrill and meditation, Gulabi Kantha says go on this journey—to trespass into domains of nature you never knew existed.
