Slow day waiting for SolidWorks to load so I thought I'd blog a bit to poop out some thoughts. ------------------------------ I think I'm successfully aging to the point where I can't just make fun of people anymore. There's something that tails it, like after I say something like "damn that driver's a total dickhole" I immediately think "he probably has to shit really bad or something." It's a weird growth, I was so comfortable with being cynical and just dismissing people as dickholes, and now I'm spending a bit of extra time to create stories for people that suck to try to justify in my head why they act the way that they do. I'm not sure if this is any better - beyond the good growth that I am now more conscious that there might be a good reason for their dickery, I'm also either naively giving people I don't know the benefit of the doubt, or unfairly associating them with terrible situations that don't really exist. So, for the little thing on my mind lately - someone that I used to know said something to my brother which, to me, seemed pretty shitty at the time, but I can't brush it off like I used to and say "what a shitty person" so I'd like to dig at it just for ease of mind. It was something along the lines of "talk to me when you're more informed." Is there an air of superiority here? Seems like it. Was the topic a sensitive one? Sure. Did my brother deserve that? I dunno. I'm not going to pretend that I know what this person has going on in his/her mind. I'm just genuinely curious as to what happened to make him/her this way. "What hurt you?" ------------------------------ K time to get back to work pce

I’ve been running a custom Dungeons and Dragons campaign for a little over two months. It’s a really good outlet for me, I guess, since I felt like I had given up drawing and storytelling. It gives me something to occupy my spare time, even though I wind up being the “dnd guy” which...carries some weight, if you know what I mean.
I’m really grateful that I have friends that are willing to listen to my awful storytelling and play the game I create, and I’m really excited to see what happens when I put them through the next shitty situation. Huehuehue.

Preface: Sylvia and I are burning through some recommended anime movies. I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on anything of cultural significance...so yeah. Summer Wars is the first one on our list.
Summer Wars
Sights: 8 / 10 Pretty cool. It's made by the same guy that did the old school Digimon movie back in the day so a lot of the animation feels like leftovers, but the fights look really cool.
Sounds: 4 / 10 I'm just glad there wasn't any dubstep involved (in a computer move whaaaat). I don't speak Japanese so I was reading subtitles so I can't speak for the voice acting, but I think I can still be annoyed by the "ehhhhyhyhyhyyyyhhhhyhyyh" that every character makes every 5 minutes. Found myself turning down the volume a lot just because when things explode it would get weird, or when certain characters showed up on screen the audio balance would be really asdfjkl;.
Story: 3 / 10 Pretty bad. There's a few memorable characters like the illegitimate son, the annoying cop guy, and the grandma, but everyone else was kinda stupid. Story's paced irregularly (a lot of unnecessary long pauses), and there's a lot of repeat elements (oh no! we lost! don't worry, we're with you! oh no! we lost! don't worry, we're with you! oh no! we lost! etc)
Overall: 5 / 10 Ideas are cool, story is bad. Characters are mostly annoying, but designs are cute. Animation's great, sound's off. Watch if you have time I guess?
