Hope everyone’s week’s been going well so far.
Let us throw back to a great song.
Song name: 偏爱 (pian ai - favoritism)
Artist: 王琳凯 (wang lin kai) aka 小鬼 (xiaogui) lil ghost
Release year: 2019
Length: 3 mins 31 sec
(c) 2019 Golden Dog Entertainment Co., Ltd.
I recently saw the special live show release of this song and started listening to the song again. I don’t know if I can get access to the original but someone uploaded youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-w2oZS6vVSA and I wanna thank them for doing so.
And I have to say, there’s something about him sitting under a gloomy sky by the beach singing this song that just works really well. There exists a contrast between the grey and darkness of the environment, like the sky before a storm, and his bright red jacket, as well as the difference between the nature around him and the man made speaker and microphone that he uses. However, while there is contrast, the setting really complements the song.
You can hear the waves crashing in the background and even some fisherman I think on the boats. I think it fits with the vibes of the song.
Overall, the aesthetics are on point.
As for the song, I really like how it starts slow then goes into the rap part. Adds some flavor. It’s a pretty angsty song about like giving someone favoritism in relationships and like everything he’s gonna do for them and if they’ll like agree to go with him or something? Like don’t go, I want to try again, I’ll take all the responsibilities for my mistakes etc. vibes lol I can’t translate this stuff XD
I first saw xiaogui on rap of china in like the first season and then again on idol producer. I supported him from episode 1 and was so happy he made it to the top 9.
I think there’s tonnes of potential in him for someone so young and I hope he’s able to produce even greater things in the future.
hope y’all r ok

Song name: Did you call me last night?
Artist: Ben Laine
Release Year: 2021
Length: 3 mins, 43 sec
(c) 2021 Mindful Records
I FOUND OUT about this song on TikTok.
“ On January 12th 2021, Ben posted a TikTok of him teasing his new song "Did You Call Me Last Night" which received over 7M views and 2M likes in just a week! “ - from his Facebook
I was scrolling through my for you page and found this video of Ben Laine saying he has the perfect song to scream while driving in your car. And if you couldn’t tell based on my past 2 posts, I love songs that you can drive to.
So obviously this song caught my attention right away. Plus it sounds really really good.
According to his social media, he’s a 21 year old singer/songwriter born in Chicago and raised in New England. He released his debut album in 2017 and he has taught himself a whole bunch of instruments from a young age. BTW people who learn instruments by themselves (and also people with perfect pitch who can just listen to a song and play it by ear) impress me so much. Like how do they do it??? such talent much wow (am I dating myself with this meme reference???).
Anyways, like I said I found this song on TikTok and sadly forgot about the release date until now TT
Different from the previous 2 songs I recommended, this song is more acoustic and I wouldn’t say it’s country music?? but idk the genre. Just listen to it and you’ll see or hear I guess.
ANYWAYS
This song reminds really really reminds me of those romance movie scenes where the dude is some really famous country singer and has to return to his small town to like get his s*** together. So he goes back to his hometown and sees the girl he used to have a thing with but obviously broke off when he got famous. And blah blah blah movie stuff happens and after they like get together again and they like break it off again cause there’s some misunderstanding and he leaves cause he has a tour or something and then is performing on stage and she like finds out it was all a misunderstanding and goes after him and enters the concert arena and he’s like singing this song. And this is the song that plays in the moment she realizes and like runs off to find him and he’s performing it on stage and they get together and live happily ever after (obviously).
When I say I associate music with scenes and stuff I ain’t lying.
Anyways if you’re looking for a song to like scream to while driving or dancing around in your room or something this songs’ for you. It’s a cute song and I’m really happy when artists are able to get exposure which is why I’m sharing with whoever reads this.

Happy Sunday everyone!
To wrap this week up and cause we all wanna travel back in time to the start of the weekend, today’s song recommendation is Time Machine by Diamond Pistols and Rich Brian.
Song Name: Time Machine
Artist(s): Diamond Pistols, Rich Brian
Release year: 2020
Length: 3 mins, 3 sec
(c) Ultra Music
You can watch the music video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cr2DNEk7XM
For more of those nostalgia vibes, listen to this song.
Indonesian rapper Rich Brian started his career off making videos about things like how to microwave bread, but his career has since kicked off. He’s now signed to 88rising and Empire, released many many songs, and has even done a few concert tours. (I went to see him during The Sailor tour and it was AMAZING. so fun)
I started listening to Rich Brian around 2017 and has followed his music since then. So, I started listening to this song right away when it was released.
Now, I’ve never heard of Diamond Pistols, aka Christian Dold, but I think he is a producer/DJ. He’s worked with artists like Lil Pump, Jackson Wang, blackbear, etc. You can read more about Diamon Pistols here. He’s actually done a lot of music and I’m really happy to learn about this artist through this song.
Recently, I started listening to this song again. I think it really captures feelings of wanting to go back to a certain time period.
“Woke up with some feelings of nostalgia But just not the kind that makes you smile It felt more like a thousand paper cuts And a band aid ain't gon' fuckin' heal it up Honeymoons with strangers (that shit was fun) Sundays with family (that shit was nice) I'm missing out on things I can't rewind I just wish I knew I'd miss it at the timeGive me that Serotonin, baby My brain be needin' that Serotonin lately I'ma need the key to open up the fuckin' past 'Cause all my friends are locked inside and I can't get them back I just wanna relive the past just for a second Can you invent a fuckin' time machine? I'm tryna go to 2014″
- lyrics from https://genius.com/Diamond-pistols-time-machine-lyrics
To me, at least, the lyrics are really relatable. 2014 was when I finished high school and thinking back always brings back nostalgia. Not that I want to go back, but it was a time before some of us had to worry about the stresses of finding a job or society in general.
ANYWAYS
Rich Brian in this song almost swings away from his original type of music like Dat Stick or Who That Be, it’s more like his stuff in The Sailor I would say cause there’s more melodic rapping (idk if that’s what it’s called).
I think it’s overall a really fun song. The lyrics might be a bit sadder but it’s a fun beat and the music video is pretty fun too. So with the music video it almost turns the sad lyrics into something not so sad but a happy thing you can reminese on...I can’t spell this word...reminisce?? Like you’re thinking back to all the happy memories and even though it makes you feel nostalgic and kinda sad, they’re happy thoughts.
I love the song and the feels it brings. Sometimes I don’t pay attention to lyrics as much, like I listen to the lyrics, but I don’t think about them as much as others. But for this song, the lyrics were definitely one component I paid attention to.
Maybe I’ve been stuck indoors for too long but sometimes music just hits different ya know. So, listen to what you feel like listening, listen to what fits with you atm. Go back to old songs if it feels right. Don’t listen to songs just because it’s mainstream and don’t avoid songs because they are.
keep smiling

Song name: skeletons (K-391 Remix)
Artist: keshi, K-391
Release year: 2021
Length: 2 mins. 10 sec
(c) 2021 Island Records, a division of UMG Recordings, Inc.
First listen: february 3 2021 (i know i didn’t listen when it was released soz :/)
TLDR
skeletons (K-391 remix) by keshi is great
when the beat drops it gives a very freeing feeling
I felt the remix gave very different vibes than the original - and I liked it
K-391 is new to me but I love
music resonates differently with different people and that’s why I love it
I’d read the whole thing I think it’s quite fun :) I also tell another keshi song I like at the end.
I RECOMMEND
lol I feel like I’m going to recommend all these songs.
But let me explain. This is one of those songs I liked in the first listen. I have to admit I’m a kind of new-ish fan of Keshi and only listened to a few of his songs. The first time I found out about Keshi was when he performed in 88rising’s Asia Rising Forever Festival.
Read more about its success here!
Keshi performed his rendition of Brockhampton’s Sugar. You can watch the whole entire festival for free here! (so generous of them and made lots of people feel better during the earlier days of the pandemic. ALSO reppin asians)
ANYWAYS
I started listening to Keshi’s songs but only like a few? I love his voice and this style of musis (lo-fi?).
But it wasn’t until 3 days ago I listened to this version skeletons and then started listening to the whole This is keshi playlist that Spotify has.
The original version of skeletons was more acoustic(?). I can’t comment on music from a technical and stylistic perspective but the original sounded more acoustic. It starts with what I think is a guitar instrumental for a few seconds before going into the first verse. Meanwhile the remix starts with the verse right away and has more electronic? instrumentals. It’s more upbeat in my opinion.
I really like both versions so I guess it just depends how you’re feeling.
When I listen to the remix, where the beat drops, it reminds me of that freeing feeling you get with the windows rolled down in your car or in movies where they drive with the top down of a convertible and the protagonist’s hair is blowing in the wind as they drive down a deserted road. AND I LOVE THOSE VIBES.
Tumblr media
The acoustic one, released in 2019, is very calming. The beat does go a bit heavier as it goes towards the chorus. You can hear the drums more but it never goes into beat drop that the remix has.
Speaking of the remix, I’ve never heard of K-391 before but apparently I’ve been living under a rock cause he’s been in some pretty cool stuff. One collab was with Alan Walker and CORSAK and I can’t believe I didn’t know because I love them both but more on this in the future.
Anyways according to K-391′s website, “K-391 is the creation of the mysterious character K, a creative prodigy who birthed K-391 with an ambition to enable people´s escape from reality through music as the vehicle and the destination only limited by your imagination”.
And I think skeletons remix does just that for me. It let me imagine being outside in the summer air. And I think recently, maybe cause it’s winter and I’m indoors all day, all of keshi’s songs have been reminding me of summer vibes in a small town and halcyon days ...even though the lyrics scream sad boi ??
To me, keshi songs send out nostalgia vibes and idyllic summer days in the past. Which is why this remix also surprised me because it seems less lo-fi and more edm? than his other stuff. I mean it makes sense given K-391 is more on the Alan Walker side of music so it brings a unique element to this song.
“The fact that I was doing something that wasn’t music, that wasn’t my passion, did inspire me to write the song, “skeletons.”” - keshi via PAPER Magazine
Keshi said that there was a sense of repression and angst which are reflected in the lyrics.
Maybe it’s the sense of trying to figure out what you’re doing in life that reminds us of the past and the more freeing days I mentioned before.
I think it’s a different experience for everyone and maybe the fact that it was a remix with a different style than keshi’s usual songs creates a different vibe in my head because I understand where he was going with the original version of skeletons.
Let me know what you think and if you listen to keshi, what’s your favorite song? (I like a lot of them but magnolia is beautiful)
ur worth it

As my first post it’s only fitting to explain how these things will go. I’m gonna write whatever I want about the music I like and share them with you all. I like all types of music I guess in many different languages.
Some of my favo(u)rite artists have included (in somewhat of a chronological order), Justin Bieber, Hannah Montana (yes she’s a real person xD), Selena Gomez, Exo, BTS, Dvicio, William Singe, Troye Sivan, Lay, Kris Wu, Halsey (k it’s starting to not be in chronological order haha), Shawn Mendes, Jonas Brothers, Rich Brian, Billie Eilish, Cheat Codes, Alan Walker, Ali Gatie, After Journey, SHY Martin, CNCO, Juice Wrld (rip), Jay Park, Vava, Gai, Tizzy T, X Lovers, keshi, Jackson Wang,........................and so many more.
BUT WHY AM I DOING THIS
Idk, I like music, I like writing.
How is this gonna work? Are you qualified to write about music?
nope.
I played instruments but I really have no qualifications to criticize music but that’s not what I’m here to do anyways so..........
I’m just gonna write about why I like the songs, which lyrics I like, etc.
Tumblr media
Music is fun to listen to and matching music to moods/vibes is fun. I like listening to music with earphones or out loud in the car hehe.
Hope you all enjoy my comments and it can introduce everyone to some new music. I think music can almost transform you to another world for a brief 3-ish minutes, but it’s fun and you can listen again and again.
So just enjoy and hope this bring a little bit of joy in people’s lives!
luv yall
