This is so important - we can’t compare trauma experiences, it is all valid. Even two people who go through the same trauma can react differently.

I was able to see the Smithsonian national museum of African American culture in all its glory in person today and my eyes filled with tears when I witnessed this in the music exhibit. The involvement of black people in country music is something I speak on constantly, trying to open eyes to the reality of the true roots of country music in effort to make people of color feel more included in a genre that is so near and dear to my heart, a genre-that unfortunately has been tainted by the idea of racism and exclusion. It fills my heart with so much happiness to know that every little Black Country boy from here on out will be able to go into this museum and feel proud to be both those things, like they deserve to be. Proud without guilt of what they THINK “country music” means. Proud to be a country boy, proud to be black. Thank you @smithsonian you can’t imagine what this means to me.
