What happened at SDCC to make you done with half of this ship? I’m confused :(

Hey there Anon,

So last year at SDCC some comments were made by the Supergirl cast which could be interpreted as mocking the sentiments of the LGBTQ+ community for wanting Lena/Kara to be together.

Now I say “could” because some people didn’t see it that way. They merely saw it as the cast having some fun.

When the event occurred and was still fresh in my mind, it hurt a lot and it left me really confused.

On one hand, I didn’t appreciate the way some of the members especially Melissa conducted herself in this matter. It’s one thing to have fun and another to make fun. To ridicule the idea that some people would want Kara/Lena upset me a lot. I can understand that not everyone ships it. That’s fine. I’m not going to force a pairing that I like down everyone’s throats and then turn around to bash them even further when they don’t. That’s just not how I roll nor how I like to enjoy/participate in fandom. Now I’m not gonna lie, the Supergirl fandom is messy. There have been a lot of fights that have ended ugly and a lot of feelings have been hurt. I don’t know what motivated Melissa or the cast as a whole to act that way, but as being representatives of their characters and holding a higher status as celebs, they should have behaved better.

Now, on the other hand, the characters of Supergirl are all fictional. That should give me the liberty to detract myself from the actors who are playing them and the creators who are writing them. It took me a while, but I have finally reached that point where I can approach Supergirl as a neutral viewer. It’s simply another show that I watch. It sucks that it has become this because the first season of Supergirl was so precious to me. I would end every viewing of the episode with tears because of how personally Kara touched me. While her fights and struggles are in the fantastical realm, I can still relate to her through her humanity. The hardships that she faces, I can still understand and empathize with.

Funny enough, I am thankful for this show because they introduced me to this wonderful and beautifully complex character. (It’s another matter entirely that we don’t get to see this complexity played out on screen.)

To cut this short, I have removed myself from the fandom at large and the actors as well. I have my own idea of who Kara is and the type of woman that I want her to be and the journeys I would like her to go on. If that doesn’t line up with what’s going on in the show then that’s too bad. I much prefer my version of Kara anyways.

As for the blog - I’m not entirely sure what to do with it. It has been abandoned for a while...

Would people still be interested in receiving fic recs?

Hey guys,

So... I’m not sure how many of you guys know about what happened at SDCC this weekend but I am done. I was already done with the show but now I am done with the cast and it honestly fucking sucks that one half of this ship turned out to be so problematic and just fucking rude.

The hiatus that I was on before was in due part because of some personal things I was going through. (Some light, others heavy) but I was always planning on coming back and continuing with this blog. (I was in fact planning on coming back this week.)

However, shit went down. And I don’t know how you all, as a collective, feel about me carrying on.

If you would like, I can. I have absolutely no problems with that.

I just want your input. I don’t want to make any of you guys feel any worse than you already have to.
