#my adventures with superman#the brain dc#I genuinely really like this design for pre-accident Brain#it's the only one so far I've felt actually tried to capture his personality#he's flamboyant and dramatic naturally#and he still manages to be flamboyant and dramatic while also being a brain in a jar#so him dressing like a bit of a disaster makes perfect sense to me#I look at him and think “yeah that's a guy who if he became a brain in a jar would request the jar have a skull motif”

Genuinely 90% of historical fiction would be so much better if more writers could get more comfortable with the fact that to create a good story set in a different time period you do actually have to give the characters beliefs & values which reflect that time period

While I am still mad about historical men's fashion: my other pet peeve is when someone tries to do an "18th century vs. 19th century" thing, and it's literally court dress from like 1790, covered with embroidery and jewels, compared with ordinary day attire for a 19th century man.
Like. Imagine comparing the most outrageous cyber-goth club wear from the 1990s with a cheap 2010s men's business suit!
"THIS IS WHAT THE DOT COM BOOM TOOK AWAY FROM US! Men used to go to work with green plastic hair extensions and slutty fishnet tops with their tripp pants covered with bright cables and chains! Now they wear 'BUSINESS SUITS' in boring navy and black. 🙄😩💅🏻"
#I love this as someone who has researched both era's fashion#because it's absolutely true#and I think shows the major misconceptions perpetuated about each era#that everyone worth talking about from the 18th century was rich#and that the Victorians were boring#anyway this is my new favourite analogy about the way these two era's fashions are compared#I love it#history
