Is there a specific age rating for the Magnus podcasts? Like,would I be a terrible person to allow my 11 year old brother to listen to it

Look mate, you know your brother better than I do. No guarantee either way. Children can be kinda unpredictabile about this stuff, even to themselves. There was plenty of "grown-up" media I really enjoyed and was just fine with as a kid (though I didn't really understand most of it until I was much older), but I had two weeks of nightmares over a bit of blood in an episode of Jonathan Creek (NOT a scary series). Neither you nor he can be sure how it's gonna affect him, but he might also really enjoy it.

My advice? Talk it through with him, make it clear he might not like it and that he can tap out at any time, then respect his choices either way.

can we talk about how the mechanisms provide a perfect case study of all the kinds of players who show up to a dnd campaign

we have the player who fully understood the assignment and even integrated other characters into their backstory (gunpowder tim). we have the person who made their character at the last minute and just gave you the basics but they're fun and cool character choices that you would like to know more about (raphaella). we got the player who has not shared any meaningful backstory but always kills it in rp (marius). the player who actually wrote out a cool backstory and a great character concept but refuses to engage in roleplay (ivy). the player who has to leave in the middle of the campaign and the dm wrote them out in a heartbreaking way (nastya). the player who clearly made their character for a different campaign but did a pretty good job of integrating it and you can tell the dm had a hand in it (the toy soldier.) the player who understood the assignment and made a super hot character that everyone loves (ashes). and the character with the most insane all over the place backstory that they refuse to elaborate on and rarely comes up in roleplay (brian.)

and of course the dm who set the assignment and has all the load bearing pieces of canon in it (jonny)

podcasts are so fun because i can just imagine anyone looking like anything and no one can stop me. martin spends all of s4 wearing a shitty sailor costume. melanie is just ramona flowers. jon records every statement lying on the floor kicking his feet. tim wears the weirdest ugliest ties he can find bc bright hawaiian shirts don't fit the dress code. during s2 jon just had a massive fucking conspiracy board that he didn't even bother to hide. georgie convinced jon to dye his hair and he spent s3 having his hair badly dyed red. this could be canon
