First impression: Sharon Van Etten’s (2014), Are We There
Year: 2014
Ranking: 20
Reaction: I’ve never listened to this album, but according to Rolling Stone, it is about heartbreak.  Good start.  Let the sadness commence.
Afraid of Nothing: Nice.  Gentle. Piano. Digging it. AMAZING VOICE. Wowza.  So sad, really delivering that.  This is beautiful. I seriously can’t believe it.  Gonna just sit back and listen; close my eyes.  BRB (lolz remember that? XD)
Okay, I’m back from fully listening land -- I am already so impressed by Sharon.  I am SO PUMPED for the rest of the album. Let’s get itttttt.
Taking Chances: Alright, changing it up to some jazzy vibes -- killing it so far.  And there’s that gorgeous voice again. Hell yes, Sharon, hell yes!
Getting some sexy vibes.  My oh my, Sharon. *blushes*
In all seriousness, I’m loving the change up - absolutely not boring, vibing the whole way.  No disappointments so far.
Your Love is Killing Me - Rolling Stones mentioned this song directly - super hyped for it.
Slow start, demands attention.  Whoaaaa, the lyrics in this are beautifully written, filled with imagery, brilliant. Really delivering that mood, that emotion.
Gosh Sharon, who hurt you?
I can see why Rolling Stones singled out this tune.  Musically, I think I like Taking Chances better, but the depth of the lyrics and the deliverance of the sorrow is just so powerful in this piece.  I can feel the pain.  I’m listened to very few artists who can deliver feeling so clearly in their music.  Well done, Sharon.
Our Love - Another switch up; Sharon, you sneaky minx!  More slow and sexy vibes *continues to blush*.
Wait hold up - are you hearing this somehow totally bearable dissonance?  That was crazy.  I thought I couldn’t keep up with the switching up between songs, but within songs too?  Impressed.  Whatever chord the vocal lines are singing is incredible.
In terms of concept - it seems like this has taken a turn for the happier.  Maybe generally about filled hearts and heartbreak?  The ever unique experience of love?
Tarifa - Okay, back to slow, potentially sad.  What’s that horn in there? Do I dare guess saxophone?!  I think it is! Hell yes Sharon!
Picking up some - really loving the diversity in feel of this song.  Wish I had a toe’s worth of talent this woman has.
I love you but I’m lost - Enter with soft keys, soft voice.  Great imagery in the vocals.
Laid back on my couch to fully listen to this story.
Can absolutely relate to this *starts to ponder about the past.  Snaps out of it and gets back to the beauty of Miss Sharon’s voice.*
You Know Me Well - Oh, the drums - what’s about to happen... Sharon? Sharon?!  Are we marching into battle?  Dare I say... Love is a Battlefield?!
I like this one, but I can definitely get Sharon’s sound now.  Besides the drum entrance, it’s a little bit of the same.  Again I ask: Sharon, who hurt you?
Break Me - Promising title... more pain? More despair?
Aw, Sharon, giving off a sense of personal fragility, weakness (”He can break me with one hand to the head.”).  You know, I really like the song - but part of me dislikes this puppy waiting by the door visual.  And maybe I’m reading this whole song wrong, but that’s what I’m getting.  However much discomfort this visual brings you, I think everyone can relate to this feeling - particularly relating to a first heartbreak, or the loss of a serious relationship.  May have to listen to this again.
Will finish up this review in my next post. :)

What is going on here?
So - I’m 27, going on 28.
I figured it’s be cool to listen to every Top 25 album since good ol’ 1991.
Of course, I’m doing this randomly.
First, a random number 1 through 28 (for years 1991 to 2018).
Then a random number between 1 and 25 (for album).
Once I have this information, I find the album, according to Rolling Stone’s rankings, and listen to the album.
Here, I will blog about my first impressions while I listen to the album.
Let the shit begin.
