Cast annoucement

i have a cool idea for the cast annoucement. before announcing the cast netflix could create an official account for the movie already, and the cast would be announced in the instagram profile, we would make it look like illea’s world is real and they’re announcing “the selection” for all the girts, so first the team would just create the instagram account and post a misterious crown logo, and write something like “the royal family has a very special annoucement soon” and all the fans would follow the account and get crazy waiting for it.

second thing to do would be to announce the “Selection” as if the followers were citizens from Illea, so we announce the competition and the fans could “sign in” for the selection, and compete for prince maxon haha. so they’d “sign” for it but just as a joke, and the form they’d fill could be a newsletter, so we keep the fans closer and we can send some small contents and alerts for them in the future.

and then we start to announce the cast, first they announce the whole royal family, a picture of Maxon, Amberly and Clarkson actors together, a photo of the 3 actors together as family, with suits and crown.

And then we selected a day to start announcing the selected girls, who’ll compete for prince maxon, just like they’d announce in the story, like if the instagram account was the official Selection account in Illea’s world. So we can announce 5 girls each 1 or 2 hours, they dont need to be in character with dresses or anything, just a good picture of them that was took in the same day all together so they’d match. so, we announce 5 girls each 1 or 2 hours, until we get to The Elite, so the girls from The Elite we start to announce 1 each hour, until we get to America, the last actress announced.

this is just the starting point idea, like using the selection movie account as if it was the Selection official account from Illea. Then we could explore many other possibilities based in that concept.

lgbtia+

So, one way i thought we could introduce a LGBTQ character was in Marlee’s plot. We all know Marlee try to go out with Maxon but she doesn’t really feel like she likes him. But then we fall in love with one of the Guards of the palace. One idea i had was to change this “guard” for a girl, it can be a girls that is working in the security too (i don’t remmember if they allow girls working in this job, but its something you guys can change) or it can be a maid also, maybe her maid. But this is a very delicate subject, i am part of the LGBt community but even tho this is a very delicate subject because we know marlee and her boyfriend get punished for breaking the rules, so maybe doing that to LGBT characters can be very bad, so it needs to be discussed by some people that really understand about it, so they’d decide how we would introduce lgbt characters in a right and respectful way, without stereotypes or damaging any of them!

rebels

So, one of the things that Kiera Cass doesn’t dive deep into it is the rebel and political side, she talks about it, we see there’s problems, but she doesnt really go into it. And i really dont want The Selection to be sold just as a “cute romance” (we already have that in the books!), i really hope the team can bring this dark and sad side of the story. Personally, i would love if you guys create a new rebel character, and we could see his plans for the attacks also, so we could have 2 sides of the story. I’d love to see our characters we already know having some misterious side with the cause, like they disappear in some scenes for no reason, they say they’ll “do something” but they’re actually meeting the rebels in secret. As far as i remmember the characters that are openly rebels are America’s father, Kriss and Gavril. Its been a while that i’ve re-read the books, but i’d love to see more of this side of the story. I’d love the camera to follow the rebel characters outside the castle, to see them planing, talking about america and planing on using her on their favor. The rebels can be from Caste 8, so we could also see how unfair the country can be and the homeless and hopeless people there and all the realities in that Caste.

music

So, i think music is a very important part of a movie, that’s why we have a whole sound department in hollywood just focused on that. And well, the name of the main character is America SINGER, and gues what? She SINGS, and PLAYS viollin, so I think it’s UNACCEPTABLE if music isn’t explored in The Selection movie. Seriously, i’d be VERY disappointed. It just makes no sense to me. I really need a scene of America performing a song, i even pictured it could be the opening scene of the movie. In my mind it starts with a black screen and the initial credit names, and her voice starts, she starts singing and playing violin to a small adience, it’s a perfect way to introduce the main character (her talents + her name America SINGER haha) so when the concert ends she comes home and then we have the first scene just like the book, where she finds her mom at home with the Selection letter asking her to fill the form.

I’d really appreciate if the team could ask famous artists to do exclusive songs just for The Selection soundtrack, and i hope they really use the songs in the scenes, in kissing moments, transitions, or whatever. I have a very particular wish also, it doesn’t need to be in the first movie, maybe in the third... America could sing a song she wrote to Maxon (it doesnt happen in the book, but its something that you guys could create for the movie) It can be a song for their wedding, or it can be in the book scene when Maxon get shots and almost dies, and america says “If you make out alive, i promise you i’ll let you call me Dear” so, while he’s sleeping/fainted, she could sing something to him, very beautiful lyrics. So, i think it’s very important that the actress that will play america has a good voice too, not just acting skills. And i wish if you ever produce an original song in America’s voice, i wish you could release on music platforms aswell, So it could be an album with the original movie soundtrack and there would have a bonus song in sang by america. omg this is just AMAZING.

I have so many ideas, and i’m sure so much more would appear if i dedicate more time to it.

ethinicy + world

I hope the creation team can really explore the world of illea visually, which is not very well developed in the books (but this can be good, because there’s more empty holes where you can fill with new things). So i’d love if the team could create a way of dressing, living and even the appearence for each Caste. Like you create a “personality” and lifestyle for people of the south (example, castes 6 and 7), like some people from the “country” side of illea, they live with farms and stuff like that. i really wish each caste had a different style and it could be clear in the movie. We all know that Illea has a huge influence of chinese + asian people in general, so we could explore that also, like some castes or provinces have a population more with asian descendents, or some castes they kept the old style of the country before becoming “illea”, and i dont know, i could spend the whole day thinking and having ideas about it because there’s soooo much cool things that can be done with the world of the selection. i really really hope the team is able to do a good job and i’m putting all my hopes on it.

makeup

Just like the dresses, i’d love if the makeup would be a trend between the girls in Illea. I know all i’m talking here looks very superficial at first side, because Illea has a lot of poverty and inequality also, but this also could be something explored in the movie, the difference between the castes, while the girls from caste 1, 2 and 3 are into fashion, and makeup and rich life style, the other girls from 4 to above can’t really care about it that much, because they have to worry about money in first place. Maybe we can have a not-main character that appears fast, saying she dreams to be a fashion designer but she can’t, because of her caste and how her life is.

So moving back to makeup, i’d love if the team could find some good makeup artists, that could create a makeup style for Illea. I’m talking so much about having something ‘unique’ for The Selection because i think that’s the magic about fictional/distopyan stories, it’s a whole unique world and you have freedom to create an amazing world and show it in many different ways visually. Illea it’s a country, it has its own story and traditional, so i would love if they could create some “culture” for the country and also portrait it in dresses and makeup style. I would love to have a very unique makeup style that could go viral here, in our world. I can see the movie premiering and girls seeing the style of makeup and getting fascinated by it, and trying to recreate and it becoming viral on tiktok and all over the social media and world. I think The Selection has a huge potential to take over social media and be a huge global hit, it just need to be well done.

A great example about makeup trend from a story, is with the tv-show “Euphoria” the makeup team did an amazing job with the makeup style, it’s a very simple makeup, indeed, but the makeup was to communicate with the story and people aswell, so it went viral on social media, many girls recreating the “euphoria makeup” wich consists in a very glow/shine makeup style. I hope we could do something similar with the selection, or way bigger than that :)

Of course each girl will have their own personality, and their maids will try to portrait it on the dresses, makeup, hair and more. But i want Illea’s world to have a trend, some unique thing that designers of the whole country will create to represent the country’s fashion. I hope The Selection will be a very fashion movie. I don’t picture the selection dresses to be big and with volume like Disney style dresses, neither too flat or simple, i imagine a mix of both, in the middle, with some shiny details. I’d love if the production team could hire a famous or at least a very creative fashion designer who could create a unique fashion trend that would happen in Illea, where most of the girls would try to follow it -- and of course, not America, she’d have something different, because she want to “run” from all of it, not intentionally she’ll make it go viral too.

Since it’s 35 girls and of course we can’t give enough screen-time to most of them, I would love if the maids of the castle were very creative and tried to represent each girl’s Castes on each dresses, so for example, if one of the girls caste’s are famous for flowers, producing honey or something like that, she would always come to the girl’s room with different tones of yellow or mixing with black, that would remind of bees, or some other little details with color representing the main type of flower that grows on her region), so this way people would always remember her, and even tho she doesn’t have much screen-time, people would remind of her because of the colors, or at least learn a little bit more about her caste.
