Timothée is definitely Jewish, on his mother's side, yes. But it's a bit murky when it comes to Hamilton's mother. Her father, Jean Faucette IV, was a French Huguenot immigrant, so a Calvinist. Her mother was English, so probably Anglican, as probably was his Scottish father, James. Rachel married a Dane named John Lavien, most likely Jewish by descent , although it's not clear if he practiced the religion. There is a baptismal record in St. Eustatius, (an island which James Hamilton and Rachel lived in shortly before Alex was born), in which they stood as godparents. Alex told his children he attended a Jewish school at a very young age in which he learned to speak the Ten Commandments in Hebrew, but it's not known why his parents picked this school, if it was cheaper or if they liked the teacher or what. The idea that Rachel may have converted to Judaism to marry Lavien has never been proven or disproven but it's interesting to note that her burial was presided by a Christian minister. Rachel's oldest son, Peter Lavien, was not baptized until an adult, as records show,in St. Croix in 1769,about a year after Rachel died. Hamilton was not baptized as a baby, either, as a court record shows he was not baptized. Shortly before Hamilton left the islands, he became friends with Dr. Hugh Knox, a Presbyterian reverend, who ignited religious devotion in Alex. Was he baptized then? If so, the record may have been lost in a hurricane. He was inspired by Knox to write a fire and brimstone sermon in his hurricane letter and also to write a religious poem. He attended Kings College, an Anglican college, at which attendance at Christian church was mandatory. His roommate Rob Troup commented that Hamilton prayed a lot, and if Hamilton's prayers had been Jewish, I think Troup would have mentioned that or other friends of his would have done so,but there is no account ofhim being said to be Jewish. In fact, at one point, Hamilton wrote a letter to another Federalist wondering if it would be a good idea to make the party a Christian one. His wife Eliza and her family were in the Dutch Reformed Church, and a minister from their church presided over their wedding ceremony. The Hamiltons later attended Trinity Church downtown Manhattan, where Alex, Eliza, Philip, and Angelica (Schuyler Church) were buried. In his death bed, Hamilton repeatedly told Eliza, "Remember that you are a Christian," hoping she would forgive Burr, whom he said he had himself forgiven. He begged two ministers to please give him Communion until one of them did. All of this to say that he definitely had connections to Jews, but it's less likely that he was one. (Sorry to infodump on you.)
Can we talk about the uncanny similarities between Alexander Hamilton, Timothée Chalamet and the story of his latest character, Willy Wonka?
