I would like to preface this by saying: Of course, we can never know for certain whether or not lams was canon historically. I will majorly be focusing on the historical aspect as I know a lot of Hamilton fans are also interested in the actual history.

I have found a lot of people usually use the argument that it was not canon, or it was one-sided for the reason that Laurens did not write to Hamilton often. I agree that everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I feel a necessity to clear this up as this argument is so under-researched, usually by people who outright refuse to acknowledge there could infact have been a romantic relationship between the two.

Let me elaborate, Laurens did not write often, yes, but that was a common theme all throughout his life. Laurens did not appear to have much interest in writing – even in his teenage years (Long story short, his friends called him out for lack of correspondence after he left Geneva in 1774). It is not an unusual theme that Laurens lacks in the correspondence department. Bear in mind that he was suspected, and I can say with almost certainty, that he struggled with his mental health – especially when held POW in 1780, which could also be a contributing factor.

People often compare Hamilton's frequent letters to Laurens' infrequent ones, but I feel they often forget Hamilton was known for his writing; Hamilton writing more out of the two was a given.
