Okay I know this wasn’t what we wanted and it wasn’t what we’ve imagined for the first music video of the album but when I think about it, I actually really love how simple the video is because it’s the perfect display of what the song is about. It’s such an accurate interpretation of what anxiety feels like, how it slowly eats you up. Having Shawn laying on his back completely alone in a dark room with his heavy thoughts, his anxiety feeding on his insecurities and fears while his entire world falls apart around him, that’s exactly what it feels like at four in the morning when you’re scared you won’t make it through the night. It feels like your world is crashing down around you and there’s nothing you can do about it. His eyes shut so tightly while he’s struggling to breathe. His tense body and his fingers digging into his palms; it’s the hurt inside his body pressing on. That tension, I know that tension all too well and I just feel like it comes across in the video. The snow starting to fall because feeling alone is the ultimate kind of cold. Feeling like there’s nobody there, feeling like you’re screaming for help but nobody hears you. It’s that kind of cold. It’s the sort of uncomfortable coldness running down your spine that freezes your body entirely and as much as you’re fighting it, you’re slipping in deeper and the demons in your mind, they’re catching up on you and taking control. Then the rain is taking over - and at first - making everything seem unclear and blurry. Feeling like you’re slowly drowning in your own pain, suffocating from the hurt in heart. The rain is the tears you can’t hold back, the tears you can’t stop from running. But the rain also what washes your path clear, gives you a new beginning and helps you grow into something better. It’s that slight sign of hope, the tiniest thought that maybe – just maybe – the sun will shine again and that’s what makes you get through the night. That’s what makes you reach out, that’s what makes you believe that giving up isn’t in your blood. It’s a show of no matter how dark times get, you can always get through. There’s always hope at the end, there’s always light at the end. To be honest, I think they captured that feeling very well even with such a simple video. It didn’t need much to give me chills because the song itself has all the extravagance it needs being this honest and vulnerable. It’s a very simple but very powerful show of what it feels like, what Shawn feels like and to me it’s truly beautifully made.

Y’all know I love Shawn with all my heart

And I was just watching one of his old performances and I just have to say wow. He’s been talented since he’s started this journey but the difference in his voice and his control over it is crazy. I don’t know if any of you agree with me but this is what I’m here for. I love seeing how as Shawn gets older his abilities improve and I’m always so blown away by how this little vine/YouTube kid turned himself into a star. THANK YOU FOR COMING TO MY TED TALK
