The cat sniffed Mana's hand before nuzzling it. Seems like the cat likes her and more cats come up to sniff and nuzzle.

Where do I go from here? [Open]

"Yeah! Kaida! I… don’t know her last name, but oh well. I’ll ask for it when she comes by again."

Sophie smiles even more and rubs more and more against the other. She hasn’t warmed up to anyone so quickly, but she figures she can trust this person easily.

"Wait… was…? Did she…? Please don’t tell me she’s gone or changed… That’s sad and I don’t want to be sad before bed… but still. Please come in and make yourself at home. Yeah, I live here alone, but it’s not like there’s anywhere else to be."

The inside of the house is much like the outside, old and crumbling slightly, except with much more cat fur. Much more. There’s got to be hundreds of cats in here, sitting and standing all over the huge house.

"If you want to sit where there’s a cat, I can ask them to move."

"Oh... I see..."

Sophie's ears flop over onto her chocolate hair and she looks down sadly. Even if this Kaida was an alternate, never being able to leave home before dying sounds absolutely awful! Plus... That Kaida was probably as nice as the one she knows. Of course, she doesn't know that alternates can be very different yet, seeing as she hasn't met any yet.

"Still, it's really no trouble at all! I'm the leader of this Clan, after all."

The hybrid’s eyes light up right as soon as Sidhe comes into play.

"You’re like Kaida! She’s a nice person who knows my other half. It’s… a bit complicated to explain right now, when mosquitoes are only minutes away."

She smiles brightly and even goes as far as to rub against the other. Her fur feels warm and surprisingly soft, for being so short.

"Anyone who’s related to someone so nice has to be good. I welcome you to The Tribe of the Falling Moon! It’s only me and a bunch of cats ever since Ethan disappeared, but oh well."

The hybrid seems to like those pets, despite her deep sorrow.

"What can I do, Jack...?"

"I… guess so, Jack."

Pitiful sapphire eyes gaze up again, only to go back down a moment later.

"… This marks the second father I’ve lost…"

She looks down at her paws almost equally as awkwardly with her ears flat against her hair.

"I know you probably don’t need any more bad news…"

Flop. No, Sophie really doesn’t care that this is a city and it hurts to flop down on concrete. She’s still a cat and still needs to flop.

"I got the courage to go into Aperture again and… I found his body."

"Yeah! Kaida! I... don't know her last name, but oh well. I'll ask for it when she comes by again."

It’s early evening and the sunset’s colours have faded, leaving the sky a massive sheet of dark blue. The calls of crows can be heard across the flat, almost featureless landscape. All that can be seen on the ground are rows upon rows of wheat fields… but a house breaks up the monotony.

It’s a rather large house, with three stories and plenty of square footage, but it’s also rather run-down. Some repairs can be seen on the base level, but not anywhere above. The meows and paws of hundreds of cats can be heard emanating from within. The door opens as what’s most likely the owner of this place comes out…

… A creature with lioness ears, body, limbs and tail, human face with hauntingly beautiful sapphire eyes and two human arms coming out of her shoulders. That’s something odd… She begins to speak up in a neutral alto tone.

"Who are you?"

"I... found out for myself what happened to Ethan..."

Flop. No, Sophie really doesn't care that this is a city and it hurts to flop down on concrete. She's still a cat and still needs to flop.

"Affirmation: Yes, likewise." Though it was a little unusual for her to be out and about, Jack didn’t feel the need to question it.

This was not Shinjuku, this was not the war-torn, practically destroyed home she’d known. The woman, clad in orange, yellow, and black, black hair kept short and skin on the paler side of a Japanese complexion, crossed her arms.

Where had her old friend ‘thrown’ her in her last moments of life, lacking sanity as they had? Was it someplace free of the White Bitch’s grasp? She could hope so…

Mana Hayashibara sighed, uncrossing her arms and deciding to look around. Best to get an idea of where she was.

Where she is is up for grabs, in all honesty! 8d Mana is from an AU where Kaida’s ‘Uncle’ Isan succeeded in killing Kazuko and Kenji, leaving Kaida to become Black Goddess at an early age, with Mana as her Topaz Goddess and Ni as her Shining Emperor. Needless to say…there was no heir for Kaida, and Mana is the only real survivor of the Sidhe of that timeline.))

Sophie nuzzles again because cats.

"Oh no, I do. I owe you a whole lot. A lot of nice robots have been showing up at my home and because of you I'm able to be nicer to them back. You don't know what another friend in the wasteland that my world is means, do you...?"

"It might not from the universe, but it still can come from smaller things. You deserve happiness, so I’ll do all that I can to give it to you. I know we didn’t really meet under favourable conditions, so I want to make that up to you."

She gives a sweet little smile.

"I owe you, too. For helping me start to get over my fear of robots."

She gives a sweet little smile.

"Statement: That is hardly your ‘job’ as it were." It would have prattled on about a sniper’s ability to work independently, but it had the feeling Sophie really wouldn’t care. Besides it wouldn’t be a terribly strong argument here.

Jack patted her head, despite its irritation. “Statement: You are far too insistent about this."

The hybrid purrs a little from being patted. What can she say? Head pats are nice.

"I'm sorry Jackal... I've always been told that I'm too pushy but... You deserve happiness. Even if you can't show it really well, you still deserve it. Just like the rest of the Clan does."

It rolled its optic. “Statement: But this unit is not part of your ‘clan’ so it is not your duty to be looking after it or fretting over it."

"No, you are. You're a friend of the Clan, so then you're a part of it too."

Sophie insists on nuzzling some more before her sapphire eyes gaze back up to the Sniper.

"Calvin said that everything is connected by the great web of life somehow. Tap one string and the whole thing moves. By you coming in and tapping our thread, it's our job to care for you like one of our own."

"Statement: …that may apply well for organic beings, but seeing as this unit is not one, it fails to see why it matters so much." Jack would have gone off on how reproduction isn’t a thing— making Sophie’s last comment irreverent (even though it was merely an example)— but decided she probably knew that. 

"Continuation: Regardless… sometimes solitude is desired, is it not?"

Agh. Logic and reasoning. The hybrid's weakness.

"Still... You don't deserve to be alone when you need someone around... And I think you really do want someone around but you're afraid of dragging them down with you or something like that. A lot of the cats that I live with are like that, but I still help them. It's my duty as deputy of the Clan."

"But nobody can survive on their own forever. I know it doesn’t seem like it, but it’s true. You miss having someone to fill the silence of the world and their colourful personalities. It’s not to be alone all the time because we need others. Even solitary animals have to get together for the next generation. It’s just how life works."

Sophie keeps on nuzzling with a little purring.

Of course, the agile hybrid is easily able to keep up.

"You won't need to worry though. If things get really bad, I can use my claws. I learned how to take down robots at Aperture mostly out of necessity... Maybe that's why they hated me so much? I don't know..."

A Different View [Open]

Sophie leans into the petting and begins to purr.

"Seems like we’ll just have to make the most of that time. I’ve got to be nice in return for you being nice to me, after all. Almost nobody with metal on them treats me as anything more than a test subject."

She nods with the sweetest little smile. The young child in Sophie is still there, bright and clear as day. She follows after him with her tail held high and flicking around.

"Thanks Serenity!"
