For the Love of Dogs

Hi Guys! Kristi here, I’m the Human behind The Organic Canine, alongside my furries (left to right) Kodi, Jax, Sally, and Petey. I’m so excited to share great news with you!! We’re ready to launch, sell, and spread the love for Pooch Putty and Pooch Potion next week! It’s been a long time coming, so many hoops to jump through (wink wink)!! Since you’ll be seeing me around more and hearing from me more often, I figured I should tell you a little more about myself, my love of dogs, and why I decided to co-create a Skin Care line for Dogs.

Why Me? Why Dogs?

I am a dog lover. Always have been, always will be (no offense to cat people). Growing up we had several dogs... Dusty and Mopsie were the first. Dusty was a Bichon Frise mix and Mopsie was a Border Collie mix (both rescues). “Dust Mop” as we liked to joke around. They were always running around inside/outside cleaning up the floor as they went and bringing in everything they played around in from outside. Of course we were little kids and didn’t really practice the art of bathing them on a regular, so the names just stuck. There was a brief time period when we didn’t have dogs in the house, both our childhood furry members had gone on to a better place... but the house didn’t stay quiet for long! Tigger, a white labrador, bounced into our lives! Boy did he keep things interesting! Loved to swim and spent most of his elder years keeping active in our pool.... #spoiled. Winston, a Wired Hair Fox Terrier, my Aunt’s prized show dog, was the last to join the party! I’m sad to note that both Tigger and Winston came to us because my family members had passed on, but happy that they trusted us with such a beautiful responsibility. Needless to say, we saved each of them and they saved all of us.

Fast forward seven years, after looking around on Craigslist, I found baby Jaxon and fell in LOVE. He was quite the terror, learning about life and driving me bonkers! After three weeks of having an 11 week old puppy, I decided that he needed a buddy on the daily. That’s when I happened upon my sweet, loving Kodi. When Kodi met Jaxon for the first time, they were best friends instantly! I don’t have any kids yet, but raising two puppies taught me a LOT. Jaxon and Kodi have been such a blessing to our lives. Aside from the occasional accident in the living room, barking alarms when someone passes by, or the amount of poop.... (need I say more)... They were definitely put in our lives for a reason. And when I say “ours” I mean mine and my family. Jaxon and Kodi are now seven years old... makes me tear up thinking about it. As us kids have started to leave the nest, Jax and Kodi stayed with my parents to keep them young! There is nothing like the comfort of holding a small dog, cute little puppy kisses, and bedtime snuggles...

Now recently married, I have adopted my husband’s two BIG dogs into my heart, Petey, an American Bull Dog and Sally, a Pitbull Weimaraner mix. BIG DOGS. HAHA Quite the opposite that I am used to, but MORE.TO.LOVE! And more food, more poop, lots of slobber, and I have to be careful that they don’t knock me over! Like I said... for the love of dogs, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I couldn’t imagine my life without dogs.

Why Skin Care for Dogs?

My family grows Certified Organic Jojoba out in the Sonoran Desert. You might have heard of us, Oro de Sonora. If you haven’t, we grow, harvest, press, package and sell Certified Organic Jojoba oil for daily use on your skin and hair. Jojoba is pretty awesome because it’s the closest chemical compound to what your skin produces naturally, what we call Sebum. So why dogs?.... Why not? Why should humans get all the perks?! Dogs have sebaceous glands, just like we do! Ever notice when your dog’s paws, nose, elbows, ears are dried out? Flaking? Rough? Cracked? the list goes on... that’s because they probably need some moisture relief.

We’re a family owned and operated business in Southern California and we’ve been growing Jojoba for the past 30 years! We decided that we would branch out and create a blend that would target dog's skin. We know exactly what goes into our product and all our products are Certified Organic by the CCOF/USDA. We love our skin and we love dogs and their skin. It’s time to take moisture to the next level! Pawfection!

What is Jojoba?

Jojoba, pronounced (ho-ho-ba), in a nutshell, is a seed that grows on a small tree or shrub in different parts of the world. We grow it here in Arizona! Once harvested, sorted, and cleaned, the seeds are cold pressed into a beautiful gold oil like substance. Then the oil is filtered and ready to use!
