THE GREAT ROAR!!! 20 DAYS OF THE 20'S DAY 4
No.4  DropWaist High Fashion
Tumblr media
From boyish flat front silhouettes to long torso shapes, the 20’s evening look and formal dresses took glamour to speed like the roaring cars they rode in.  The fussy styles of Poiret and Doucet’s lavish dresses and long trains fell out of fashion for even the wealthiest people by this time due to the newly independent and mobile lives people were living. The hemlines went from ankle skimming to showing calves and knees for the more scandalous flapper.  The famous drop waist ruled the night for a modern woman.  Coco Chanel did not create the look but rather with her fame in making easy to wear luxury for women, she popularized the style in the height of her career in the 1920’s.  Chiffon and silk were still the popular fabrics in which to weave these beautiful and weightless gowns.  The look also demanded that is was suited for a night on the town; hitting club after club and dancing till your heel broke. With their bobbed haircuts the “independent woman” took not only the roles of men but their sartorial markers.  Fashion and style were up for grabs and the women were wearing the pants; so to speak.

THE GREAT ROAR!!! 20 DAYS OF THE 20'S DAY 3
NO.3 THE FABULOUS FURS
Tumblr media
This cold weather always forces me to cozy up in something soft.  I crave the luxurious furs of the winter season. I am also reminded of the jaw dropping creations of the 20’s. The Edwardians gave way to modern style and fur did not only last but excelled.  As a woman and even a cutting edge man a full-length fur coat was the staple in the cold months. By the mid 20’s faux furs came into fashion; and styles for both fake and real furs came in all shapes.  Two of the most popular were of course the mushroom shape with the exaggerated sleeves trimmed in large tufts; or the shawl collar style, with a sleek column silhouette. Mink, sable, and raccoon were popular for celebrities and the wealthy as well the middle classes enjoyed furs in squirrel and rabbit. Smaller cuts of fur accented almost every piece of clothing in a woman’s wardrobe; on shirt collars, bags, gloves, and shoes.  This glamorous staple has lasted throughout 20th century and into the 21st.

THE GREAT ROAR!! 20 DAYS OF THE ROARING 20'S: DAY 2
NO.2 THE MEN'S BOOT
Tumblr media
In the early 1920’s men were sporting cap toe lace boots, a style that had survived over 50years before the modern 20's. The craftsmanship of strong comfortable boots for gentleman and working class was sought after across oceans.  The strong colors of browns, blacks, and greys reign supreme with a distinct toe design; a strap over the toe, decorative designs in some of the dressier styles on the toe, with a small "brogue" heel. These gorgeous shoes brought men into the modern world of style.

THE GREAT ROAR!!! 20 days of the Roaring 20's
No.1 The Cloche
The cloche hat evolved from the wider-brimmed decorative hats of Art Noveau, and continued to evolve up until the 1930s and beyond. The hat is a very snug-fit hat that was often worn tilted, covering the forehead, yet allowing room for vision. The hair was cut short and styled flat to fit under these types of hats. Cloche type hats covered the ears as well, and even sometimes the ends of women’s short haircuts of the time. Often the flapper style clothing and the cloche hat were worn together, especially during the latter half of the Decade.

Night Club Etiquette: Black Tie Tank Top
Tumblr media
I love the limelight.  The pulsating magic of those 808's beating your ear drum, that one strobe light that catches you just right creating the perfect glow to show off the sharp curved lines your fabulous new jersey/ cotton tank.  As I think of the wealth of images of people celebrating throughout history; the white tie penguin suit men would where to private clubs in europe and major empires the early 1900's to the flapper dresses defying hem lines to the relaxed button down shirts and causal suits that graced the booming mid 20th century, exploding with a easy way to move the disco era gave birth to looking and feeling sexy once the sun goes down.  Both women and men cut away with sleeves and the tank top found itself as the all inclusive staple piece for a night of sweaty fun.
Tumblr media
For women it shows off the delicate shoulder while giving them a look of "ready for anything"  yet for the boiz ( for whom I write this for)  it shows off everything we want to see. The main attraction, those guns baby!  Anytime a guy wheres a tank he is immediately saying "look at my arms, i've worked them out and I am so sexy, I should be wearing the least amount of clothes as socially acceptable"  From your tight ribbed numbers,  to the classic and butch white tank or "Wifebeater" ( so not a cute term when you actually look at it), to the fashion forward hipster drapey tops that show every rib , muscle, and nipple.  Of course these are my favorites.
Tumblr media
As I put on that body-con dress or crop t-shirt giving sleek and cool, I am constantly surrounded by men in one of these aforementioned styles pumping up their masculine décolletage to willing eyes.  On a typical night out with the crew there will be at least twenty messages going back and forth amongst the chickies concerning if it is going to be a "Tank Top Night" after at least ten yes's then the dressing happens.  Similar to the royal toilette in the french court , well without the servants,  the waters are going the oils are being poured, the hairs gels are spackling agents only to finished off with the slim-straight jean, a fabulous shoe that appropriately draws attention even on crowded dance floors and the perfect tank to rest between the shoulder bone and neck perfectly so that chest is revealed slightly when in movement and the body creates a long V-shape in any lighting while standing erect.
Tumblr media
So boys we can safely say that now-a-days any night is a "tank top night" just feel sexy, do that extra set of push-ups, oh and don't forget to pose just slouched enough so that the tank falls away  in the right spots for the sexy male model attitude.
Bisou!!

Last night on RPDR the fabulous gender bending Milk strutted the runway competition is her interpretation of RuPaul, complete with bald head, neck tie and blue silk suit. However the judges were none too pleased with yet another queen bending the rules in traditional drag. Mill was left standing defending herself and saying “I have to stay true to myself” the sad words of any artist after a bad showing . However as a gender bender myself; an image that has propelled me into the entertainment world I have been greatest with praise from fans and distain from other queens. I know where I stand. Where do you? Comment and post her on the noir boudoir Facebook group. Let me know how you feel about this evolution of drag

Throwback Thursday
Tumblr media
A picture I found taken by Brian Lempin of the 202 blog at "Sunday School" a kick ass party formerly at Local 16.  Back in the day my best friends the Pocket Gays, Devon and Brett corralled the masses to Local 16 for monthly after brunch bash into the late evening.  It was the best place to day drink without consequences and wear the best pair of designer sunnies you own.  Oh memories.  Well Mr. Lempin is still shooting and capturing the best aspects of life and men;  the Pocket gays are hosting amazing events in DC all the time (check out the next CTRL at Cobalt March 29th with Jeff and Adam); and me, well Im always doing my thing.
