Follow me on my journey while I plant, grow, cultivate, live and eat from my garden. A look into what I grow in my indoor nursery and outdoor garden space. And a look into what I see when I run, bike and walk places, when I'm not in my garden getting my hands and feet dirty. Sometimes I'll take a break to write out my thoughts on other things I care about. Podcasts, true crime, urban planning, feminism, and whatever else inspires me. [Plant Hardiness Zone 5B]

I love this weather only because everything is so green! Pac Choi coming along nicely. Behind are Swiss chard sprouts coming up and to the right is a lot of lettuce, different varieties.

Out to Eat, at Home: Good Food Meal Kit Delivery Review
I listen to a lot of podcasts and nearly every single podcast I listen to has a review for some kind of meal kit delivery service. I always thought it was neat but didn't really believe it would fit into my lifestyle. I cook every night because I love it. It's my down time and it relaxes me. I put on a podcast about murder, chop and mix and sauté and my troubles melt away. I thought a meal kit delivery wouldn't fit into my life for a few reasons. First, I thought it would be too expensive. Second, I thought it would make my cooking experience less enjoyable since I love to improvise in the kitchen. Third and final reason, is that I already feel like a good cook. I don't need a meal kit to teach me how to make pasta. But a few weeks ago, I found out about Good Food. The company is Montreal based (local!) and delivers to all of Quebec and Ontario. I also found a coupon offer and thought "why not?". So I bit the bullet and ordered by first box.
It arrived on my doorstep on a weekday afternoon and I was super excited to take a peek inside. The box is well insulated and contains ice packs to keep food cold. I was impressed at how well packed everything was. It was clear that it was packed up with care. When I removed the contents of the box, my super organized brain nearly passed out from delight. Each meal is carefully sorted into cute plastic bags. They're recyclable but I wash and reuse them (no more zip locks!). Everything is perfectly portioned too so there's zero food waste involved in cooking these meals.
The best part? Everything was so freaking delicious. I had been worried about boring recipes and not getting to feel excited while cooking but I was dead wrong. I learned how to make some new sauces and even tried out ingredients I could never find at my local grocer. The black garlic mashed potatoes were amazing. Really, I could rave about each meal for a whole half hour. I was impressed. So I didn't cancel my subscription and we've been receiving boxes for a few weeks.
We're wasting less food and enjoying restaurant quality meals at home. Look, I cook delicious meals regardless, but it's a welcome change to not have to plan every meal each week. It's nice to have a meal already thought out and organized for you. So far, we have yet to order take out this month!
You can cancel your subscription at any time and even pause it weeks in advance. Delicious and convenient. I'm a meal kit convert!

“When I started my musical career, I was a maid,” she told the audience. “I used to clean houses. My parents, my mother was a proud janitor. My stepfather, who raised me like his very own, worked at the post office and my father was a trash man — they all wore uniforms. And that’s why I stand here today in my black and white and I wear my uniform to honor them.”

Good morning world! Did you also spend the early morning hours with a dog on your face who was scared of the wind? Cool cool cool. Time to do a crossword to get my word brain going. Then continue to figure this routine. Today I'm going to try to fit in some Pilates before making dinner. And I vow to unplug after 7pm. Okay....maybe 8pm.
