at long last I have tried my hand at a human design for Jax >_>

I'm not 100% settled on anything yet but he just gives me 2010s lazy wannabe edgelord and chronic hoodie wearer energy

worth noting: just like for my Zooble and Gangle designs, I didn't aim for a direct translation of their circus avatar designs so much as an attempt to do a more realistic "what they could've looked like pre-circus" concept.

Funnybunny writing dabble 1 / ?

      “The worst thing you can do is make someone feel like they aren't wanted.”

   The phrase repeats in Pomni's head as she descents down the endless brightly lit coordinator. It was night. At least she thought it was? The sun never set in the circus. Her internal clock was beyond broken. But everyone was asleep for the night. They didn't need to sleep. Yet she still felt tired. But couldn't sleep. Couldn't rest. She'd tried. Layed down and closing her eyes. Kinger's words repeated in her head on a loop. While Images from the day's events accompanied them. 

The in-house adventure. The gun fight. The award ceremony. 

Everything was a blur, only one thing stood out sharp and clear. 

One name. 

Jax. 

Their fight. 

And the look on his face. 

That's what got her up. 

She still wrestled with herself as she continued down the hallway. Should she have checked on him at the awards ceremony? He looked so sad. So upset. So unlike himself. She should have said something to him after at least. But he'd been long gone. 

Would doing this now be a good idea? Should she just go back to her room? 

She pauses, Kinger's words echo again in her head. And she looks up, finding herself near Kofmo's door. Jax looked so upset at the mere mention of him. On the subject of abstraction. 

Abstraction. 

“People are not pleasant to be around before they abstract.”

She thinks back to the fight, to his behavior. 

Frowning, she carries on. 

No, she needed to try. At the very least. Jax hadn't fought back. He'd taken her hits. He could have easily overpowered her. But he didn't. That had to account for something. Besides, what if he did abstract? They'd all be in trouble then. 

She reaches his door. The same as the rest. His cartoony smile stares back at her. Square pupils against yellow eyes hide several unspoken secrets. She raised her hand with hesitation, it lingered inches from the doors' perfect wood as she thought about what to say. What should she say? Knuckles curling, teeth nipping her bottom lip. Pomni decides that nothing she says will be perfect. That she can only speak from the heart, and hope her words reach Jax. 

Stilling her heart and taking a breath. 

She knocks.

       A simple knock. 

He flinches. Ears standing at attention. 

       Who knew a simple knock could rattle him so much? He couldn't remember the last time someone knocked on his door. He looks over his shoulder at the door. Jax remains where he is. Crouched beyond his bed, beyond the light seeping underneath the door that could touch him. Show that he is here. He remains quiet, hiding away in the darkness. Wondering who is beyond the door. What they wanted with him. It wasn’t Zooble; she didn’t care enough to come to his door for anything. Gangle was too afraid of him. Good. She ought to be. Kinger was too crazy to do anything sensible. So that left two options.

Ragatha.

Could it be Ragatha? Here to accuse him again. Or maybe to spout some false concern. She didn’t care about him. She just wanted to be liked. She always tried so hard to be liked. 

So then…

No. No why would she? He’d scared her off. He pushed her away. She wouldn’t. She’d be stupid too. She-

“Jax?”

His body tenses. 

His hands presses against the dampness on his face. He stills his breathing. 

“Are you in there? Her voice muffled, he reminds himself she’s behind the door. Behind the safety of the door. She can’t see him.

Pomni. It was Pomni,

This was just a short little thing, I write in my free time and it's been awhile since I wrote anything. But I haven't really done any writing for this ship yet and just wanted to kinda get my feet wet with trying to dabble in it a little bit. But I'm tired and felt like writing this little tidbit, maybe I'll continue it? Who knows?

He doesn't want her to do that, even maybe he's trying to prevent her from doing that while also trying to play this argument off so that they don't totally be at odds with each other later. Not enough though.

In episode six of The Amazing Digital Circus — Jax gets too real!

In all seriousness, this was completely fantastic to watch. It was such a good depiction of self destructive behaviors and Michael Kovach was PHENOMENAL.

His instant reaction to pomni hugging him was super telling. He wants to get closer to her, his behaviors show that clearly, but he fears it as well.

His regret after the outburst is also extremely telling.

This did not go as planned. He did not expect to get so close to her and have to push her so suddenly away. He didn’t want to push her away, but felt in this moment that he needed to, at all costs.

As much as he wants everyone to believe his actions were planned, they were IMPULSIVE.

As insistent as he was on telling Pomni that he didn’t care, that it was stupid to think that he might, Pomni was right when she pointed out that Jax wasn’t fighting back. He DID care.

He never hurt Pomni for his own fun at any point in this episode. His actions directly contradict what he’s trying to make Pomni believe. He hurts the others, so she might believe him. But he didn’t want to hurt her. Not anymore. The only time he hurt her on purpose was when he felt like he needed to push her away. But otherwise? He has shown that he doesn’t see her as something to torment. Jax sees Pomni as an equal, a friend.

His words are hollow.

Even his reaction to Ragathas “accusing” him of making friends with Pomni was extreme. Initially his uncaring expression threw Ragatha off, but once she was eliminated you can see that this is the moment Jax realized he was going too far — far past even his own personal boundaries — in forming a bond with Pomni.

Jax was lying the whole time he tried to make Pomni believe he didn’t care. He used all his tricks. Deflected with jokes, brushed off the intensity of the situation, made fun of Pomnis attempts to befriend him, he even tried to make her push him away first with the traitor bit.

Actually, he seems to be obsessed with the whole bit thing, don’t you think? The archetypes.

He thinks that fitting into the role of the circus will help him survive.

As if trying to maintain humanity whilst being deprived of it causes abstraction.

So he picks the perfect role to extract himself of any sort of sincerity or responsibility.

The comedian.

He uses it as a shield even if it damages his relationship with Pomni. And he tries to use Pomni’s humorously chosen role to his advantage, to get her to leave.

Pomni’s prying would humanize him. He would be too open, too vulnerable, too human. He won’t be able to play his role anymore. Or use it to protect his sanity.

If he had nothing beneath his cruel exterior, he wouldn’t have to beg Pomni to stop looking.

Jax knows that if she keeps looking, if she helps him open up, if she pursues his friendship despite his protests, he WILL break, and he WILL show her who he really is. He can’t resist getting close with someone because he — like everybody else — needs a friend.

So he had to make her stop.

3rd scene finished up hehe.. I admit doof was not as difficult to draw as I imagined

If you havent seen the beginning of this animatic it's here. A couple notes under cut once again

- Doof does in fact already know when Perry's birthday is (as seen in that comic abt perry's birthday), but he also knows Perry likes celebrating with his family and keeping it separate from work. At this point they've worked together for a few years, so Doof knows the drill (send perry an obnoxious card but don't mention his birthday at work), he's just acting like he doesn't since again, they're at work. Also maybe to annoy Perry a little.

- Perry was invited to Heinz' last birthday, he just didn't go. He gave him a gift and took him for coffee the day after

- This is about the halfway point of the full animatic! Based on frame count at least. Let's hope my motivation sticks around
