#i think george really painted an interesting picture with baratheon's childhoods#both robert and stannis were traumatized by the death of their parents#but i believe since robert was lowkey raised by jon arryn(known schemer with southern ambitions with rickard stark and hoster tully) could#easily rise up against the targaryens.#like. i think that's also one of the reasons for robert's deep hatred for targaryens because they also indirectly caused his parents to die#while stannis did not make that kind of connection#(probably because he was busy picking after robert lol)#but also the name proudwing and how that indicates that stannis saw his ability to nurture and heal a hawk as a source of pride#and he did not really care about proudwing soaring and it is implied that he was content with her presence#and how his nurturing side was seen by robert and his father(i think) as a weakness#and how it was turned into a competition that forced stannis to constantly compare himself to robert#anyways. stannis forcing himself to become The Most Proper and Just because in everything else robert is better#and his stronger sides are not seen strong by the patriarchy#and he as a Boy is not suppose to care and nurture#furthermore his caring was seen as something to be shamed about#stannis baratheon#asoiaf#meta
