I've often heard people debate the role of Games Journalists and their duties relating to coverage of Games, but its usually in the context of letting them off the hook for just taking the easy route and shilling for the AAA industry.

After This Article from Polygon today, whose TTRPG beat is almost entirely covering WoTC press releases, written by the editor for the TTRPG beat, talking about how indie TTRPGs need to do better about getting press coverage themselves (hmm wonder how that would happen, Charlie!), while neglecting to highlight his own team members' work to do so, but finding plenty of time to bemoan the lack of any upcoming Curse of Strahd-tier adventure modules from WoTC?

Genuinely 90% of historical fiction would be so much better if more writers could get more comfortable with the fact that to create a good story set in a different time period you do actually have to give the characters beliefs & values which reflect that time period

i realize i probably seem like overly nitpicky about game genres and that's partly because i am just a picky autistic bitch. but also it just kind of feels like. you know the "what counts as a sandwich" nerd circlejerk meme where different foods are categorized based on arbitrary geometric placement of Carb and Ingredients, and the normal person response to that is "if i ask you for a sandwich and you give me a hotdog you're an asshole"? i kind of feel like everyone else is doing sandwich rules on game genres and giving me hotdogs when i ask for sandwiches and it's a weird unique kind of frustrating. like when other people talk about game genres it makes me feel like i'm an actual space alien who misread the Human Guidebook
