When he asked her when he might have someone of his own like Alannys with Tyanna, and Rodrik with Elyana, Rohanne had only laughed in that sly way of hers, lofty as a swamp cat and impish as one too, and told him that she had 'no use for spares.' "You suffice because you are a good lord's son," she added after a moment. "Your brothers and sisters are your own not because I may have labored over them, but because they were all grown from your father's seed. A good lord's son takes care of his own." Her eyes turned away to a far off point in the distance, as if remembering an old sin. If she had been overtaken by the memories of her family in Lannisport, Toron would not know. She was not keen to speak on it. "You must keep being good so you may prove yourself useful to your father's house, instilling fear where you must and respect where it serves." She gripped onto his wrist and rooted him in place by the manacles of a mother's love. "But if any man or woman comes to tempt you against us, you will come to me and I will exceed that offer. You will not find me to be a miser or of the mistreating kind. Can I trust you, boy?"

Dalton’s faith was a wave, coming and going as the moon moved. Sometimes it was so strong it made him come back from any and all injury. Today… today his only faith was in Toron. — I don’t know. —He answered truthfully. Hands playing with his rings. He was sure his answer wouldn’t satisfy Toron, but it was all he could give him. —I’m your father. Were you expecting something different? Do you think I stole you from a different man’s arms and claim you as my own? No. So don’t look at me as if I’m a stranger. The Kraken’s blood is yours because of me.

So much of his life had been left to the goodwill of the Drowned God when his father was but a speck of light in the distant horizon and his own mother was a passing ship in the night, always following her own ambitions on her merchant guild and returning with tall tales of the golden lands to the West. His parents may not have found much use of him as a son, but he had been consecrated as a babe in the waters of the Drowned God, his worth weighed and measured by the Lord Beneath the Waves. Toron would have no fear because the Drowned God had not found him lacking.

💸   »    connections  :
allegiance: Rohanne is a hatred that smiles, a debtor that uses you for barter, a friend that will gladly sell you for the right price. However, her loyalty has always been to her immediate family — her husband and son — a choice made out of devotion as well as her own personal advancement. Due to Dalton and Toron's high-ranking positions in the Iron Islands, she upholds the interests of House Greyjoy. mother: Dowager Lady Lanna Lannister of Lannisport (née Sarwyck) father: Lord Tybolt Lannister of Lannisport (†) siblings: Four; Terrence (†), Cyrenna, Myrcella, and Genna. issue: One son; Toron Greyjoy (b. 127 AC) marital status: Wed to Ruling Lord Dalton Greyjoy (m. 127 & 145 AC) ward: None paramour: None
💸    »   headcanons :
As the last child born to the Lannisters of Lannisport, Rohanne had once been subject to her mother and sisters experimentation and doting, though it could not be said that she had been any easier as a child or a girl as she grew into a demanding, spoiled youth, always aided and abetted by her father's inexhaustible lenience and favor. Youthful wildness lead way to girlish rebellions where many nights were spent sneaking out to the woods of Feastfires to kiss aspiring knights and drink stolen wine with local girls, stealing any manner of small victories through malicious compliance and petty offenses upon her return home. However, her life of riches and leisure was slowed in the family's descent into bankruptcy when her father began waiving tariffs and taking on loans that he had no means to repay, and halted entirely when talks began of ceding a quarter of their fisheries and mines to their kin and liege lord, the late Lord Lannister. Their cousins and overlords had all too conveniently become their gaolers, and so Rohanne came to understand that her father's strength was an illusion — it had not been their harbor, their unscalable walls, or their fleet that assured their permanence, but being their kin's fool only until they tired of exploiting them. Rohanne grew more disillusioned when her father's favor allowed for a betrothal to one of the bannerman of the Lions of the Rock, an older man of House Tarbeck, all in a bid to settle a part of the family's debts through her dowry. Naturally, Rohanne turned to her oldest brother, Terrence, a clever man of two-and-twenty to her impressionable four-and-ten years — and watched passively as he lifted his blade against their father in an act of patricide.
In the moons that followed, Terrence worked tirelessly to stave their lands from being sold to creditors, eventually renewing morale in their lands and household into a state of ease. But the cost of betrayal, of reaching past the yoke and leash beholden to the man of the house was not a knife that he was willing to turn in on himself, and so Rohanne was cast to the streets under the accusation of theft. It had been a disappointment for him to discover that Rohanne had taken the last of her dowry with her and used it to pay for passage on The Raven, a ship captained by a young boy who had been terrorizing the coast of Lannisport at the time.
Ambition and love had seen Rohanne abandon all custom and caution when she became Lord Dalton's salt wife and the mother to his heir, though it became a trial assimilating to a land and people whose cruelty and cynicism was not a choice but the way of the world. In effect, it is said that the sins of the father are visited upon by the son, for it was not long after that civil war broke out in the Iron Islands and the last illusions of Rohanne's youth had truly sheared away on life’s jagged edges. In death and destruction, she became ruthless and determined to become more than what her new family had hoped for, holding nothing sacred but the success of Dalton's war efforts — not as one his warriors, but as conspirator. With the thralls blockade on Lordsport, Rohanne became key at establishing smuggling routes between the Iron Islands and the Sistermen of the Three Sisters to siphon resources from the riverlands. What had begun in earnest to survive in times of war developed into a promising province when Dalton gifted her the trading galley, Peacock's Palanquin, where she embarked on a merchant's life of rigorous self-actualization.
It was not until the arrival of Maerie of Braavos a few years after the war concluded that Rohanne's latticework of connections in the Free Cities truly began to take form. Maerie boasted connections with House Prestayn of Braavos and the Saan family of Lys, two families whose lifework and ambitions afforded her a rise in a male-dominated battleground full of colorful characters and even more garish traps. Eventually, Rohanne moved from trading in low investment, quick return industries to a vast network of trade relations that required for more discreet services. It was then that she began trading in elaborate textiles whose manifold designs allowed for secret, woven messages being sent to military outposts or to highborn lords with seedy dealings with powerful officials. Now as both a legitimate merchant of textile luxury materials and a smuggler of contraband, Rohanne sought to create safeguards for herself and her allies on what could easily become a monopoly, thus establishing the merchant guild, The Crimson Weavers, with her as its guild master.
A revenant of the westerlands, the thieving daughter, a crafty cutpurse — in the last twenty years, Rohanne has borne countless indignities upon her good name, the worst of them being relegated to a bedwarmer in her decades-long marriage by those who renounce the validity of salt marriages. However, prospects have begun to take a positive turn for her as she has recently become Dalton's rock wife in a bid to bolster their son's claim to the Seastone Chair. Now, as both the economic mainstay of her family and the most paramount of Dalton's wives, Rohanne continues to grasp for every vestige of social ascent that she may seize as she begins to cement her influence as Lady of Pyke and expand both her legitimate and sordid business interests across the known world. More importantly, the day of doom is nigh at hand when she calls upon her son's swords and banners to make due on an ages-old grudge against the Lannisters of Casterly Rock to take all that they hold dear.
💸    »   rumors :
Rohanne was exiled from the westerlands twenty-three years ago because she stole her dowry. In the past two decades, Rohanne has had her share of problems with Dowager Lady Helya Greyjoy and the more senior members of the Greyjoy household on account of their cultural differences and Rohanne's unwillingness to give out monetary favors at whim. Rohanne and her sister's double marriage to Lord Dalton was another one of their schemes to allow them to remain under the same household and continue their incestuous relationship. On the other hand, others say that Rohanne only withstands her unruly sister so that she may sow discord among Dalton's salt-wives on Rohanne's behalf. Rohanne holds no love for her son, Toron, who has always been an asset to keep at arms length. Her concerns over his unruliness and general disregard for his own wellbeing stem from self-serving interests only. In private, she has been known to strike people with the back of her hand when she is not properly addressed as "Lady Rohanne." Likewise, she withholds addressing others by their proper titles if she finds them to be of little importance. Rohanne has sworn a sevenfold vengeance on Sansara Serry for her relentless pursuit of her husband and has begun making plans to kill her and make it look like an accident. She not only deals in the illicit trade of items but of exotic wildlife. This explains why she has a grand collection of mounted animal heads and capes made from the fur of animals of dubious origin. Grumblings amongst the merchants of the Streets of Gold have begun to take hold as Rohanne is looking to establish a trading post in King's Landing, with many accusing her of having a reputation of depressing commodity prices due via illegal competition.
