Readings - Pg. 155-170
In this chapter, I learned about the qualities of type and how they apply to motion. I also learned about how type can be used to convey a message when it is not centered on the page. The qualities of type are very unique and that they can be interpreted connotatively and denotatively, but type is also you need because when it is applied to a different theme, it can produce a variety of effects. Type has very unique properties and that it's verbal and visual, but when paired with sound, it can also be audiatory.

Designer Bob Greenberg
Bob Greenberg's contributions to the world of the design vary, but are great in number. Since the introduction of technology like social media and the Internet, Greenberg has made it his mission to embrace the new era and modernize his craft. Since he has had experience in the movie industry since the 80s, it is no surprise that he was able to lead a design revolution into the 21st century, expanding the outreach of his fir, and allowing him to seize many opportunities to improve his standing in the industry. His contribution to the art world is well known.
Greenberg has a sense of direction and creativity - one that has allowed his company to direct over 4,000 commercials and animate special effects to title screens of popular movies like Alien and Superman. To say that he is an expert in the industry would be an understatement. Despite all of the approaches that other firms made to switching to advertising in other mediums, Greenberg has remained persistent and has continued to do great things in his expertise.
Greenberg has been a designer that has redefined what creativity can be used for. He set the stage for a new age of mediums and expanded what many people understand about the uses of graphic design.

Designer - Ralph Caplan
Ralph Caplan An advocate for design in written form, Caplan earned his AIGA medal through his extensive talents and understanding of the concepts that govern design. His study in design writing - a subject that became popular after the 1950s - was a form of media that he pioneer after his many ventures in entertainment, poetry, English literature and most importantly, design. He worked for many design firms, such as Earnes Office and IBM, and was a member of the International Design Conference in Aspen. Because of the extensive knowledge he has in his profession, he has seen production of his creative essays in the 1980s and beyond. Caplan grew up in an old town of Ambridge, Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh. His father was a butcher and his mother worked as a bookkeeper. One of the most familiar things about the town was that is was mainly used for steelmaking,am practice that 'left no shirts white', as Caplan recalls. Eventually, his parents threatened to send him to military school, an offer that he was excited to take. These events outline how spontaneous and interest Caplan was even as a young teen, which helped him develop creatively as an adult. Seeing as Caplan is very spontaneous in how he approaches design,it is the mastery of the art which he places the most importance. His writings did one of two things: the highlighted the qualities that make designers different from the rest of the world, and also demonstrated how everything in the world was simply a result of careful and purposeful design. He appeals to sensualist qualities in his writing, often making references of humor, striking interest in many curious readers. One of his most famous quotes reads, designers shouldn't design for museums anymore than mummies should die for them. This quote is a very important spoken truth,as it outlines the purpose of mastering the art of design. The quote is not just a statement, but a parable - it is a reference to the idea that artists should revisit the purpose of their passion - to create and better the world, and not to simply be remembered as some visual artifact. While other designers show their mastery in the manipulation and placement of fonts, Caplan's understanding of design is shown in his descriptive and humorous essays. This quality is what makes Caplan different, but extraordinary - the knowledge he has gained through his profession is what makes him the best of both worlds of design and literature.
