Ok I’m actually watching the redstone plagiarism video now and although I’m not gonna go back in time and pass comment on every poorly-aged DSMP blog this one got notes recently. So I’d just like to say: no it fucking would not be Sam.

Round three of coloring my sketches of the D&D!Lifers (original idea again courtesy of @theglitternet)

Featuring: Bdubs, Etho, and Impulse! (Again, does this group have a trio nickname?)

Thought processes for the designs below the cut:

Bdubs was assigned Wild Magic Sorcerer, and I ended up hybridizing his default Life Series skin with his mossy skin because I feel like Bdubs with a moss cloak/jacket is just way too iconic in the fandom by this point to not include. Helps with the messy gremlin vibes he has going that fits way too well with Wild Magic as a subclass. I ended up using that magenta color for his magic explosion, mostly because I didn’t know what other color to use and decided to just reuse the color of the dragon eye on his bandolier just to keep the palette concise. And I made him short because yes. Probably would be a halfling.

Etho was assigned Artillerist Artificer, and for his outfit I basically just translated his skin as best I could. I’ve never watched Naruto so I didn’t use Kakashi as any reference even thought that’s literally what Etho’s skin is. So I ended up just improvising based solely on his skin, and gave him a big ol’ canon to set off. Also, you can’t see it very well because his hair hides his ears, but I assigned him as an elf.

Impulse was assigned Arcane Trickster Rogue, and for his outfit I ended up kinda hybridizing a couple of his Life Series skins together and trying to incorporate at least a bit of leather armor because rogue. Oddly, for being one of my main POVs I watch, I had a hard time figuring out the colors and such. Though I’m pretty proud of how I basically snuck in his iconic “I” shape by having his leather chestpiece cover part of the yellow stripe on his tunic. And of course, he’s a tiefling to go along with the fanon of Impulse being an imp. I did experiment with adding a bit more of a yellowish tone to his tail and horns to push the tiefling idea but I didn’t like how that looked. The yellow spectral arm is his Mage Hand.

dnd lifers !! awesome !! on a recent zombiecleo hc stream (playing tcg it was gem’s first s10 game), they designated some classes for a theoretical hc one shot. different characters than traffic of course, but you reminded me:

Gem as rogue.

the girlies (cleo ren scar tango cub i wanna say?) were considering paladin or fighter first but the second rogue got brought up everyone was like ohhhh yeah that makes sense, perfect for gem. she herself as a bg3 player agreed. fascinating how quickly they all switched gears.

I love battlemaster gem too, and it definitely fits traffic gem perfectly. but also wanna hear your thoughts on rogue gem? 👀

(they also said wizard scar and he ROLLED with that lol he wanted to be a traveling scam artist. as usual. that ones fun too)

Rogue Gem is super fun, and I can see why she resonates with it as it makes her a strong all-rounder in and out of combat. I just think of her more as a duelist in combat than a traditional rogue pick-them-off-before-they-know-what’s-coming type. When we (I made the post with my brother) were discussing it I was steadfast because she’s very good at knowing and using PvP combat mechanics. They’re both versatile martial classes though! So I really like it.

Also Scar’s classes are a HotGuy joke lol. He can pull off anything as long as he has high charisma :P

Thought processes for the designs below the cut:

BigB was assigned Phantom Rogue, so I decided to use his Creaking skin. His pose actually took me two full tries to get right; only ended up with a pose I liked when I leaned into the creepy side of things. Dude’s the local cryptid. I don’t actually draw creepy stuff very often so this was good practice for me.

Skizz was assigned College of Eloquence Bard. Design-wise he was really simple since his skin is pretty consistent and straightforward; just had to make sure it wasn’t identical to Mumbo’s. I didn’t make it really obvious, but I figured race-wise he’d be an Aasimar, going along with the popular fanon of him being an angel. His Aasimar traits only really show up the most in his eyes and some streaks in his hair and faint glows from some of his scars.

Mumbo was assigned Evocation Wizard, so naturally I had to draw him using his End Crystals. I also gave him some magic potions on a belt, but other than that I just went with his standard skin since he really doesn’t change it very much. Gave him some grey in his hair to kinda reference the storyline he’s been doing on Hermitcraft, but I also gave him pointed ears. Not sure if he’s an elf or a vampire but he’s a something.

I also thought it was interesting that this trio all had black hair and very desaturated colors, contrasting the last round’s brighter colors.

Decided to start chipping away at coloring my sketches of the Life Series folks as D&D characters (original idea courtesy of @theglitternet)

First round: the BAMboozlers!

Thought processes for the designs below the cut:

Jimmy was assigned Circle of Land (Grassland) Druid, and I leaned into the canary idea for his wings. Not sure what race he’d be to have wings; maybe Aasimar or something else? Gave him a shepherd’s crook-like staff because Ranchers. I also added some orange hints, since I like the idea that seems to be gaining some traction of associating Jimmy with phoenixes now that he’s broken the Canary Curse. Maybe he’ll gain a dip into Life Domain Cleric? Or maybe some sort of Phoenix sorcerer?

Lizzie was assigned Trickery Domain Cleric, and her design is pretty close to her default skin. Gave her a corset waist belt thing for the extra fantasy hint though. She’s almost guaranteed to be some sort of fae—maybe spring Eladrin?

Scar was assigned Assassin Rogue/Gloom Stalker Ranger for his bow skills, and I liked his Secret Life outfit the most of his various skins; felt the most Ranger-y. Added some extra patches to his pants, figuring he’d probably patch his clothes himself. I also thought he’d probably be a half-elf.

I feel like as a fandom, we don't talk enough about Fabian giving everyone in the friend group a gift. Like this is a kid who has been raised to find camaraderie through fear of himself rather than vulnerable connection and YET Fabian still cared enough to give deeply personal gifts and even giving himself a gift to MAKE SURE that no one knew it was him. He still idolizes his father at this time and STILL goes out of his way to provide for his friends the only way he knows how.

Fig got a guitar pick saying "Gorthalax's Girl" only a DAY after finding out that Gorthalax was her dad!

Gorgug got a holder for his axe with a tin flower emblem on it. Fabian obviously knew this meant a lot to Gorgug especially since that is an object he had on the first day when they got in a fight.

Adaine got a 45 gold coin gift card to a high-end clothing store because she had only mentioned it earlier once when explaining how it connected her to her toxic family.

Kristen got the famous "On the Subject of World Religions" because he wanted to give her some solace (haha) from the Helioic faith that she was struggling with.

RIZ OMG RIZ! Riz got his briefcase with the initial TB for "The Ball" and gilded business cards for his PI business. Some people brush this off as Fabian being dismissive, but if you think about it, "The Ball" came from Ragh who created it to bully Riz and ridicule him BUT Fabian used it in an affectionate, friendly way in order to bring a positive connotation with it!
