fun thing about herding and/or generally neurotic breeds: they are really good at following rules you have instituted, but they will also make their own Dog Rules they will follow stringently whether or not you like it

need a bi4bi t4t m/f pairing where the girl is a giant freak and not in the "cute manic pixie" way but in the "unethical experiments in my fucked up laboratory" way and the guy is a golden retriever who thinks he can fix her. and he brings her cute bento lunches and she's like "bradley shut up put on your fucking gloves and hold this possum down so i can graft these giant grasshopper legs to it"

Y'all
I downloaded Xiaohongshu just out of curiosity and-
This was the TOP comment lmao. "I think the government uses anti-black racism to divide the social classes as a bulwark against revolution, do you agree?"
lmfao, yes. Bingo XHS user Rammstein from Shanxi, you mostly got it. I'm sure she was just expecting questions like "How do you do your hair?" and shit, but half the comments jumped straight to socio-politiical theory and class consciousness lmao.
But don't get too excited because the other half of the top comments were "You guys don't really think the new Little Mermaid is pretty... do you? If they HAD to make a black mermaid they should have picked someone pretty." Like goddamn. OP and other sisters fighting for their lives trying to explain that no, Halle is beautiful we love her. 😭 They were like "Oh... well I guess we'll trust your judgement. 🤨"

people on xiaohongshu are legit so nice, especially if they can tell you are TRYING to be respectful (translating when necessary, not making rude comments, engaging with the community, etc). I have people sending me the CRUNCHIEST FUNNIEST memes, people complimenting my fashion sense, people wanting to be penpals?? What a wonderful time to be alive!

Since joining RedNote I have connected with a Mongolian rancher, a knitter in Shanghai, a bunch of musicians who are playing traditional Chinese songs on guitars and harps and other musicians playing rock and roll on pipas and zithers. I have had my brain rocked by what some people can do with water colors, and I have met a woman who, though she is on the opposite side of the world from me, has chosen to plant the same flowers in her garden as I have.
I have engaged in discussions on what foods we want to try from each other’s cultures, and even seen very respectful conversations on what foods make each side wary to try even though they believe the other side when they say it is good.
But most of all I have seen English speakers go out of their way to include Mandarin translations with their English comments, and I have seen Chinese people be so touched by that.
THIS IS WHAT THE INTERNET IS FOR YOU GUYS!
We had a glimpse of this very briefly in the earliest days of the internet (I’m talking mid 90s), but we did not have translation software back then, so the exchange wasn’t nearly on this level.
I am having so much fun. The world may be awful but also it is beautiful.
Let me correct that. Our governments may be making the world fucking awful, but when is commoners get together and hang out we find we are more alike than we are different and the world is fucking beautiful actually.

I think the one thing we should learn from rednote is the value of person-to-person connection. The american government censors tiktok out of sinophobia, the chinese government censors lgbt content out of homophobia, and the one thing I can think of is let's all bond over how shitty governments are.
Time to quote Persepolis again.

being on this app is so surreal. americans are usually the ones that learn about other places and people everywhere else already know about america because we're everywhere online. we've never been on the opposite side where other people are learning about us -- and they are horrified about our "normal"
the country america spent our whole lives trying to convince us is miserable and suffering under an oppressive government that starves everyone and controls their media? that's just projection. turns out besides like... housing prices and few available jobs, china is doing pretty great. they originally believed we were all living it up "the american dream" way and now they're all thankful they were born in china and have no idea how any of us are even alive
