Hey guys, this is Shabnam. I'm 27 and in bar exam mode. I'm a first generation Persian-American :3 I basically made this blog as an outlet for my obsession with every decade before the one I was born…also I accidentally made a Phil Hartman fan account my main here instead of this 🙃

Forever rooting for Michael Redgrave and Margaret Lockwood. Even in “The Stars Look Down,” I was rooting for them until it was made clear in the story that they TRULY weren’t supposed to be together (and that wasn’t until the very end of the film 🫠).
EDIT: I was drunk when I wrote this but the message still stands 🤷🏻‍♀️ should clarify that I don’t mean IRL; I only root for them when it comes to films and such.

Margaret Lockwood and Michael Redgrave (The Lady Vanishes, Stars Look Down)—if i could i would go back in time with a gun and force hitchcock to sit these two down and just make romantic comedies forever, the gilbert and iris show, hell i would take a series of comedy shorts, I DONT CARE i just need more of them!!! in lady vanishes they are a detecting duo who hate each other (not for long tho 👀); she's bright, he's whimsical. and then in stars look down they are.....uhhh not that!!!! but that's forgetting that no matter what they are doing (including being insane) they are always very cute together and have wildfire chemistry ❤️🚂
Merle Oberon and Laurence Olivier (Wuthering Heights, Divorce of Lady X)—no propaganda submitted
This is round 1 of a mini Christmas tournament. Each poll lasts for three days. If you'd like to send additional propaganda supporting your favorite hot couple, you can reblog this post with your propaganda added, send it to my asks, or tag me in it. Was there ever so dishevelled and kitteny a Vanya? Michael Redgrave in Laurence Olivier’s production of Uncle Vanya (filmed at the Chichester Theatre, 1963), for @cinemaocd
And for a more erudite commentary (which is spot on) here’s Rory Kinnear, discussing it as one of the performances he wish he’d seen, for the National Theatre at 50 celebrations.
“The performance of Michael Redgrave is so incredible for its spontaneity of thought and feeling, as if there is no performance to it at all. And it’s up against the Astrov of Olivier which is, you know, a great performance, but it is a performance. Up against it - it’s particularly shown up on the screen - that sense of a man who’s wandered into this life in Russia, rather than an actor who’s wandered onto stage. I’d love to have seen what that was like in the flesh.”

Look how they massacred my boy* 😩🤌🏻
*the boy in question died twelve years before I was born and was nearly 90 years older than me, but still 🤷🏻‍♀️
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Josephine Hull (Arsenic and Old Lace, Harvey)—Josephine Hull was only in two major movies - “Harvey” and “Arsenic and Old Lace” - but those two roles made her an icon. Her mobile, expressive face is unforgettable. She was expert at playing these women who seem to be very conventional, until you scratch the surface and realize they’re scrungly to the core. The scene in Harvey where she is watching a bad performance at her soiree, and trying to look pleased while actually being appalled, is priceless [link]. In that same movie, she has wonderful scenes where she is trying awfully hard to disbelieve in Harvey (her brother’s invisible friend who is a 6-foot-tall white rabbit) but finds herself, to her horror, believing in him. (This one is a highlight - she comes in around 2:50 [link] Her other role, in Arsenic and Old Lace, is a sweet little old lady who the hero (Cary Grant) discovers to his horror has been murdering people. And again she sells her total conviction that she is normal, while being decidedly NOT. Another great example of her wonderful talent at scrungly facial expressions is in this scene, where she is waiting for an old man to drink poisoned wine [link]
Michael Redgrave (Dead of Night, The Lady Vanishes)—I'm not sure what the heterosexuals think of him, but as a lesbian who got obsessed with him after the last poll, Michael Redgrave is the scrungliest of men. Is he pathetic? Yes. Does he look like he is crying a little in all these movies? Absolutely. And yes, he may be tall and therefore not as much a little guy, but he has such a pathetic demeanor that I will always look down on him, despite the fact he is a foot taller than me. Please just watch Dead of Night when he gets jealous of others flirting with his ventriloquist dummy. It's worth it.
This is round 2 of the contest. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. If you're confused on what a scrungle is, or any of the rules of the contest, click here.

Why does this gif feel like those Steve from Blue’s Clues videos where he asks the viewer how they’re doing and just sits silently and watches the viewer intently as he ‘listens for a response’ 🥺

I have made over forty McGoohan fancams but even my family members don't know about them so I'll spare you the details for now. But this scene is Columbo history and if you still don't want to vote for Patrick McGoohan after watching it then I have nothing left to say.

Patrick McGoohan is in a poll once again and he’s ranking low (again) and I am pissed (again, even though McGoohan would’ve prob not given less of a hoot) 😡
I mean, I know Robert Vaughn is great, but this is McGoohan we’re talking about 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s between the “if you or a loved one has been diagnosed with mesothelioma” and the man who destroyed AI in the 1960s 👁️👄👁️
Patrick McGoohan Vs. Robert Vaughn

Propaganda
Patrick McGoohan - (Danger Man, The Prisoner) - the prisoner, which mcgoohan created, produced, and starred in, is arguably THE cult classic of 60s television. its themes are still startlingly relevant today and its distinctive amalgam of surrealism, social commentary and deadpan weirdness has influenced countless works since. he also starred in one of my favorite columbo episodes and directed several more.
Robert Vaughn - (The Man from U.N.C.L.E, The Protectors, Hustle (season 1)) - Although Robert Vaughn always is handsome, he's one of those men whose attractiveness really lives off his facial expressions and also imperfections. You have to see him in action doing subtly silly faces and with his kinda puppy dog eyes and naturally pouty lips. Personally I never know whether I want to hug and comfort him or have him shamelessly flirt with me. And that's hot!

He's hot! He's smart! He got time off being one of the most famous people on tv to go to USC to take night classes and earned a PhD. He was one of, if not the first actors to speak out against the Vietnam War. When the Beatles came to the US the first time they asked to meet him!

Once upon a time, Patrick McGoohan created a fairy tale where he put a curse on every blorbo blogger who dares to put him on this hellsite. And if it's not clear enough yet, I would rather he had sent a dragon for me to fight instead.
Vote for him, if you dare.
