i think when it comes to knowledge gaps (especially on tumblr) its easy to get insecure about not knowing everything. but the real secret is that you can get away with not knowing everything if you just dont insert yourself into conversations you dont understand with blind confidence. the internet also gives you the privilege of 1) googling/wikipediaing shit before you say it, and 2) not volunteering how little you know. you dont actually have to enter the conversation just to say how little you know. part of the stereotype of dipshit stupid american on here is that americans will say full chestedly that they dont know which continent tchad is in and then go out of their way to justify it with their lack of education. when no one asked them to say either thing. and even if someone did ask, you are never under any obligation to actually answer.

Idk why, but I think of Shauna and Melissa with this song. I wonder if Shauna does actually care about her, but won’t allow herself to fully feel it the way she doesn’t with Jeff or Callie. She is afraid of losing each of them the way she lost her baby. She ran from Melissa when she was hurt because she couldn’t bear to see another loss occur in front of her. If she was so uncaring of Melissa, she wouldn’t have threatened Mari and Gen to keep her alive. Even though she’s a shitty partner to everyone she’s been with, it doesn’t mean she doesn’t love them. It’s more that she is terrified to let herself go down that road. It also gives a little context to her reaction to adult Melissa saying she didn’t love her. I think that lowkey hurt her.

What if you were GAY and you played SOCCER in high school and your team made it to NATIONALS but your plane CRASHED in the middle of the CANADIAN WILDERNESS and you were there for NINETEEN MONTHS and during that time you started DATING an INSANE girl who lost her baby and her BEST FRIEND who she had feelings for and that you guys CANNIBALIZED along with OTHER PEOPLE and then you GOT SHOT WITH AN ARROW and became close a FROG SCIENTIST who had a DAUGHTER and asked you to take a TAPE to give it to her and then YOU GUYS KILLED her and then were RESCUED but after being back you decided to FAKE your death and CHANGE YOUR NAME and then you married the DAUGHTER of the WOMAN YOU KILLED and had a CHILD with her and you are trying to CHILL AND BE NORMAL DESPITE HOW FUCKED UP THAT IS but you still have that incriminating TAPE and you don't give it to your wife and it's HAUNTING you so of ALL Yellowjackets you send it to your ex with a NOTE and her daughter doesn't give it to her and now your CRAZY EX drove all the way to VIRGINIA and she's in your house BITING YOU AND MAKING YOU EAT YOUR OWN FLESH and you don't even have YOUR HAT ON

And the thing about Shauna, and really all the survivors but I think most glaringly in Shauna, is that even though she was never very present with Callie or Jeff and even though she always had secrets she did convince herself she moved on. Adult Shauna in s1 would not go hunt down the daughter of Hanna, because it had been years since she’d even spoken to another survivor other than Tai. Adult Shauna is regressing back into violence and manipulation and loneliness because she’s scared. In the past months she has seen two of her friends die, has been blackmailed and stalked (at least she believed so), and has been forced into interacting with the wilderness. Her friends tried to hunt her and kill her just like they did in the wilderness!!! She’s regressing because the only way she knows how to deal with fear and loss of control is to take control back by any means, especially through violence. Because she’s a heavily traumatized woman, not because she’s been hiding some sadistic evil side for 2 seasons. She’s forgetting that she’s not just a girl in the woods forced into butchering her friends for survival.

mellissa rejecting their past, rejecting the wilderness, rejecting shauna, only shauna won't let her. she cuts her, she fights her, she pins her, she bites her. she forces her into submission with a knife in her hand, just like she did against that tree decades ago. she threatens to kill her again, but this time she's intent on killing this new melissa---the one that's scared of her, the one that doesn't love her, the one that doesn't like the dark parts of her anymore. and she does it by ordering melissa to eat herself, forcing cannibalism back onto her, to collapse the boarder between adult!melissa and teen!melissa just as shauna has with herself. to drag melissa down to her level, to destroy what little comfort and happiness she has built for herself. you don't get to leave---you don't get to leave me, not while I'm still trapped here
