8. Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

I answered this same one yesterday, but this is a good excuse to share something else I'm stoked about that I haven't shared yet!

“Fuck you,” Tkachuk shoots back, and there’s some hurt in his voice, but it’s not mean. “You think it was easy for me to just pick up and leave just because I wanted out? I left people behind, too. I might not have had what you and McJesus did, but that doesn’t mean that there weren’t people I cared about back in Alberta. That it wasn’t fucking shitty and nerve-wracking and terrifying going somewhere new.” And that’s - It’s not what Leon expected to hear, and he feels like a fucking asshole as soon as he recognizes it. Because yeah, of course. Just because Tkachuk left on his own volition doesn’t mean that he wasn’t leaving anyone or anything behind.  (His traitorous mind wonders for a split second if he was one of those people, too, but he pushes that thought down as soon as it surfaces.) “Look, Tkachuk -” he starts, an apology ready on his tongue, but the other man is quick to cut him off.  “For fuck’s sake, man. I’ve had your dick in my mouth. I thought for sure we’d be on a first name basis by now.” 

This is for a classic lil "Leon gets traded to the Panthers" WIP that is NOWHERE near done, but I wrote this piece of dialogue today and I'm really stoked about it! I think I just really love when dialogue feels REAL. When people cut each other off and interrupt each other and say shit that surprises the other person because it's what happens in real life, and this little passage just really felt like that to me.

(This was also something that I definitely pulled out my phone to jot down while at work haha)

20. Describe your perfect writing conditions.

You know... I don't really know, haha. I love settling in bed at the end of the day and writing my lil heart out, but if inspiration strikes during the day I'll definitely write out quick snippets on my phone or during my lunch at work. I think it's moreso just whenever inspiration strikes!

17. Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?

I'll usually start by jotting down important scenes/dialogue that usually inspire the fic, then try to flesh out an outline around it, then will write it start to finish from there. But as I'm working on it, if I think of new pieces of dialogue/new plot points/etc, I'll go edit my outline and add it out of order. So like... a little bit of both, I suppose? I get a little nervous posting when I'm actively working on a fic in case I decide to change something partway through, so I'll either wait until it's fully fleshed out or mostly written to start sharing anything.

omg I've been excited about these two questions! ily! ♥️

1. Describe your comfort zone—a typical you-fic.

Oh man. I feel like anything with a healthy level of angst and pining, really big feelings, definitely some miscommunication and some not actually unrequited love with a big love confession at the end is my bread and butter.

I am also a fucking SUCKER for reincarnation AUs and soulmate AUs. I really wanna do one of either with some hockey rpf but just haven't worked out how I wanna make it happen yet.

2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?

There are a few! I've been a little nervous to try any of them simply because I'm just not well-versed in any of them, but I know I need to take my own advice and not overthink it, but:

A/B/O - it took me FOREVER to get into anything A/B/O related because I was convinced that I'd hate it, but I finally gave it a shot and now I am DYING to write something.

OT3, specifically McMattDrai - I've never written for multiple partners and it feels a little daunting simply because I don't really have any experience in that aspect but I am IN LOOOOVE with the dynamic of their relationship

Fake dating - I am a fucking SUCKER for fake dating AUs but have just never written one, so I really want to do that eventually too!

(any ideas/prompts/bouncing ideas off of me for these tropes are more than welcome!!)

13. What's the best writing advice you've ever come across?

I don't think the advice was given to me in a writing-specific sense (it was probably during a discussion about photography) but don't overthink shit. Literally some of the best advice I've ever received and has helped so much when I start getting in my head about ANYTHING artistic. Just step away, return to basics or do what feels right/comes from the heart and chances are, it'll be better than anything you've overthought every time.

32. How do you feel about smut?

Love it. Love reading it, especially when it's written well/not cringy. Used to hate writing it and only ever really wrote it as a plot device or because I felt like a story absolutely NEEDED it, but recently really found myself enjoying writing it as well.

38. Talk about a review that made your day

Oh man. I don't know if a specific one really comes to mind, but I really love when people mention that they've been looking forward to an update when I post a new chapter, or that they were excited to get an email that I updated. Like holy shit, you actually care?? That's fucking insane to me.

Also, whenever someone comments on something old that I either forgot about or am still really proud of, it makes me so so happy that it's still getting love and reaching people.

4. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?

Man. At least like... 5 mattdrai fics that I actually have concrete ideas for? One that I'm SUPER stoked about at the moment is a fun "Leon gets traded to Florida" one that @ivegotallthisringinginmyears has been sending me daily ideas for and I can't wait to get them all on paper.

Another one that I really want to work on soon is an anonymous dating app one that finds Matthew and Leon unknowingly falling for each other for months before realizing who they're talking to.

8. Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you've written and explain why you're proud of it

Before he has a chance to think about that, Draisaitl is shaking his head, muttering out an exasperated, “Fuck you, Tkachuk.” There’s no venom behind the words, though. Matthew reads it for exactly what it is: friendly chirping, and oh, that’s new for them. Most of their exchanges up until now haven’t necessarily been as toxic as the media makes it out to be, but they’ve never exactly been cordial, let alone friendly. But this… this, Matthew can work with.  So he takes his chance, decides he can blame it on the alcohol and head for the hills if this goes south, and leans in even further, enough to say in a low voice, “Fuck me yourself, you coward.”

I've written a TON of dialogue that I'm super proud of for other ships and whatnot, but this one is so fresh in my mind. I'm so freaking proud of this one because this specific line is what inspired me to start the lil Ruined By Love verse I'm working on right now. If it weren't for this idea, I probably wouldn't be writing it.

One of my best friends died 4 years ago today. Christmas hasn’t really felt the same since.

Last night, I dreamt of him for the first time in a couple of years, and it was literally just the most mundane dream ever of us just running errands and hanging out together and laughing a lot.

This Christmas is awful and bittersweet for a slew of other reasons, and I’d like to think that maybe, he knew today was going to be a tough day and thought I could just use some good old fashioned Kenny hangs last night to take my mind off of things.
