The DreamSMP Gazette FAQ: Who we are, what we do and how we do it

What is a zine? 

A zine is a self-published work, usually produced in limited batches. Fanzine is a subsection of zine, a non-professional and non-official publication centered around a specific culture or fandom.

What is this zine about?

The DreamSMP Gazette is a charity fanzine revolving around Dream SMP. We want to present the events of this server in the form of a newspaper. Our main intention is to show appreciation for Dream SMP in a unique form while raising money for a charity.

Who is running the zine? 

 The DreamSMP Gazette is run by a two mods team:

 Lis - @ranboo-in-a-boat - Organization, Finances and Formatting moderator

Ollie - @tubbo-in-a-boat - Applications and Formatting moderator

Where will the profits go? 

 This is a charity zine, therefore all profits will be donated. Our charity of choice is The Middle East Children’s Alliance, a nonprofit organization working for the rights and the well-being of children in the Middle East (https://mecaforpeace.org).

How will the zine be distributed? 

 Zine will be distributed digitally on a Pay-what-you-want basis through Gumroad. Also based on results of Interest Check, we will consider distributing printed copies, as well as potential additional merch.

What is the rating of the zine? 

 The DreamSMP Gazette will be a PG-13 rated zine. If you consider applying, we would also ask you not to submit NSFW pieces in your portfolio.

How many contributors are you going to accept? 

 We are looking for 9 artists and 3 writers, but since our main goal is to fill the set number of zine pages with content rather than host a specific number of creators, those numbers are subject to change.

How are you going to pick contributors? 

 We will pick contributors based on their portfolios, as well as their ability to follow directions during application process. Contributor selection will NOT be based on follower count.

Are contributors allowed to publish or sell their works featured in the zine? 

 All contributors retain the rights to their creation and have full ability to do whatever they please with it after the distribution of zine is over.

Will there be a Discord server for participants and do they have to join it? 

 A Discord server will be set up for the contributors. Joining this server will be mandatory, as it is the most convenient way of organizing communication between participants and managing the project.
