A belated bit of winter prep: using old candles, egg cartons, and the bits and pieces from the log pile to make firestarters for the season. Once they've fully cooled overnight, I'll break them apart. Last year's firestarters ended up being red, because that was the color I had the most of. This year they're kind of a weird brown. Pouring a batch of prosperity votives in my shiny new double boiler. The old one wasn't very heavy-duty, and unfortunately the lower pan had begun to rust through. So it was time to invest in a replacement.
