✘ The range of Gon’s emotions and how quickly they change still catches Ging off guard, he had to wonder if he’d been like that when he was a kid too. He thinks back to being 12 years old, leaving the island, the hunter exam, his adventures… Yes, perhaps he had been a little like that too.
“Come on then, I’m not gonna slow down so don’t lag behind.” He says, already having started to walk to his destination and expecting the sound of smaller footsteps to follow. It’s not long before they're at they’re at the beginning of the trail that leads up the mountain. Ging is sure the fresh air and long hike will do them both good, and Ging can use the time to come up with a suitable training plan – after all, he can still see Gon’s aura even if Gon isn’t able to feel it himself.
However, just as he’s warned Gon before, he knows the boy will have to make some sort of painful sacrifice if he is to use it again. That could be a problem.
“Oi, Gon…I was wondering.” He turns to the small child beside him as they start the assent up the mountain. “You never really told me much about your abilities before you went back to normal..” He says that, but he still hasn’t told Gon much about his own either. He looks at Gon, he still feels the boys aura and sees the earnest look in his eyes, and a bead of sweat rolls down his temple.“Though, it’s obvious you’re an enhancer.” ✘
The prospect of spending more time with his father really encouraged the boy. Gon had heard so much about Ging and yet he had been in his company for such a short time. Of course he wanted to see it up close, understand him better and know what kind of hunter he really was. Listening to others say how good his old man was was amazing, he seemed to be admired by many so being able to witness his exploits had to be much better.
That was true, he knew the basics and that had to help. Kite was instructed by Ging to become a hunter and develop his nen and he was one of the strongest hunters he had met to far. With no doubt his dad had to be a good teacher to have, even if he seemed kind of reluctant to have an apprentice, as Kite had told him.
“Mountains? That’s good!” Gon wasn’t the one to have many things planned. Maybe he had a goal in mind but the way to achieve it was never clear and he didn’t mind wandering before getting there. Maybe Ging was like him, or rather Gon was like him; like father like son.
“Yes, let’s go! I can wait!” No tears anymore, just excitement.

✘ He feels Kurapika move away from him, there’s nothing really new there. Kurapika is the one to chain other’s down but he himself is aloof and impossible to capture. Leorio doesn’t want to do that anyway, he doesn’t want to drag Kurapika away from his goals or his desires, he just wants…wants Kurapika to know that he doesn’t have to go through those things alone. At least now when Kurapika pulls away Leorio doesn’t feel hheart sink, he can feel that Kurapika is absorbing the words he says and not running away from them - even if he wants to.
His brows knit together, skin creasing with both concern and disagreement. “You don’t have to apologise to me.” Leorio states. That isn’t why he’s here, he isn’t angry at Kurapika for the way he acts, no – he’s just angry at the situation. He’s angry at the greif that befalls him and the unfairness of this world.
“And I’m not looking for forgiveness.”He lowers his head, just like always Kurapika makes a solid argument that he can’t really invalidate. Kurapika’s rage will keep him busy for eternity, until he wears down the soles of his shoes and doesn’t have another breath left in his lungs. “I just want you to know that you don’t have to be on your own.” He mutters it under his breath, low but still loud enough to be heard. He wants it to be heard, he needs Kurapika to know.
When Kurapika speaks again he lifts his gaze…so he is getting through? It’s taken its time, but if that’s true it’s at least a step in the right direction. “Kurapika…can I ask you something?” His gaze locks, it becomes more serious as he does so.
“Are you afraid?” He lets the words linger, and thinks about the times he seen Kurapika smile when all their friends are together having fun, in those times it’s hard to distinguish the anger Kurapika holds, and he wonders… “When we first met, you said the thing you were scared of was the rage fading, and I wonder if that makes you worried about having friends, well…let me tell you something.” He points his thumb into his chest, and shouts.
“Me, Gon, Killua – we’re all your friends! So we’ll experience that rage with you! We’ll have anger directed at anyone who’s hurt you too! So you’ll have that rage too and it’ll never EVER go away!!” ✘
CONT’D with THEDADCOALITION
there’s a startled bounce of his head, how his hand loosens and his feet SCAMPER slightly, ready to duck and hide and RUN, just as he has always known as a child. he doesn’t want this, this conversation —— it’s a volcano that has been bubbling, that has been brewing beneath the surface of Leorio’s skin for a while. it is SOMETHING that he does not want to shake too roughly, in fear of the pain for his friend.
Kurapika waits, hoping that he won’t leave the his words there, won’t put a mark where he can’t pull it out again. but he does. and it BREAKS blue into white into grey in his chest, flooding it with a strange fear he doesn’t want the other knowing of.
❛Leorio,❜ he starts, and GOD, there’s a wire hedge in his throat and a FIRE in his heart with one word. he pulls his hands away, another part of himself shoved deeper into the confines of the suits he has bought, of the suits he’s had to KILL for. ❛I…I apologize; I do accept your kindness, it would be against my morals not too. But I am a busy man and you know this, and you know what I must do for them. I can only ask for your forgiveness in this trying time.❜
he folds his words carefully, trying not to ruin this good-hearted man, wreathed from childhood death’s and a heart too wide for the EARTH to swallow in a bug-jar. he won’t be the one to break him —- he PROMISES. ❛But please, understand…you are getting through. Just slowly, but you are.❜

✘ Ging steps back, wobbling slightly when he feels only half his foot on land and the heel of his foot over the cusp of the dock. He’s half worried the internal groaning and screaming in his mind might come out as actual sound. He hates this, people staring, listening into a very private and yet very LOUD conversation. Maybe he could just push her onto the boat before the nosy passers-by got to hear any more about this bastard child they had somehow created.
He was sure she was probably going to push him into the ocean, even as a strong swimmer maybe he’d just give up and become fish food – it sounded like a lot less hassle than this right now. She was an attractive girl with plenty of intelligence and an asset to his expedition, but right how he wondered how he’d ever gotten near her in the first place without losing a limb or something.
He breathed a silent sigh of relief and stepped forwards so both feet were firmly back on the ground. “OK, that’s good….” No it wasn’t, it was awful. He blinked a bit, eyes going wide. “Who said anything about working?” Well, to be fair, they still had a contract, yikes. “You’re…pregnant now so.” Oh god, even just saying pregnant was terrifying. It was too real. “So obviously, I’m not expecting you work…let’s just agree the contract is over and you won’t work for me again, alright?” He coughs to clear his throat before walking over to the boat to jump down onto the deck, awkwardly he looks back up at her – honestly, she scares the shit out of him with that look but he’ll never admit it.
Hesitantly he holds out a hand.“Come on, let’s just get going already.” ✘
- So let them stare! - Her yelling was slowly decreasing, but she wasn’t calm at all. She was almost pushing him in the ocean by herself, only to find a direction for her rage. A part of her - small, but inexorably there - kept telling her she couldn’t expect any other reaction from him. It was Ging, after all. A remarkable man, incredibly intelligent and perceptive, but… He was still Ging. Weeks working on the expedition taught her that.
And still, she slept with him; maybe she was the idiot there. After hearing his suggestion, the young woman sighed. Damn, he was right. That wasn’t something they should decide on a rampant, it required planning and agreements. It was a life, after all. A tiny, fragile and innocent life. When Nemo first found out, she freaked out - but in no moment she thought of giving up. She already loved the little one inside of her - please, don’t look like your father - and was more than disposed to raise the child on her own if needed. She didn’t needed Ging… But couldn’t take from him the decision. If he wanted to be part of his son’s life, great; if he didn’t, great too. It was up to him. - Unfortunately, you’re being coherent. I’ll go to your damn island… But just until we talk. I’m not working for you again. - Neither drinking anywhere close to you. But this one she wouldn’t admit all loud. No one else had to know how stupid she was.

✘A clap of thunder roars through the sky, Ging supposes Kurapika is right to have no more business here, though he is curious about the blond and wouldn’t mind talking more. He’s interested in why the association called for him, though he doesn’t have all the details he knows it’s safe to assume Kurapika didn’t join without something dangled promisingly in front of him. He wonders what it is…
His thoughts take a break from this path, eyeing up how the stray dog that sits at his feet now leans towards the Zodiac, happily keening into the touches Kurapika provides as his tail wags and he licks the blond’s hand. It’s an oddly endearing sight, Ging almost lets his lip twitch up into a smile.
However, any chance of that happening is snatched away at the cold tone of Kurapika’s voice, and the harshness his message is laced with. Yet Ging doesn’t move away or flinch, it’s not like he hasn’t been spoken to in that way before.
“Hm? Why are you apologising? It’s no big deal.” He scratches his cheek, “I guess it’s not my business anyway.” He can’t help but still be curious, but he can hardly force the conversation, and if Kurapika thinks the comment about ‘his son’ hurts. Well, it doesn’t.
“Even if I could consider Gon a son and if he could consider me a father I wouldn’t ask him anyway. If I want to know someone, I’d rather ask them directly.” He looks back at Kurapika, ignoring the fact that the dregs of his tea are now getting cold.
“It wasn’t my intention to leave him behind you know, not in the beginning…” He doesn’t even know why he bothers to offer this information, but an eye for an eye and all that. So why not offer his pound of flesh with the gamble of getting back some information? “But in the end, the decision that was reached was probably the best one for the both of us, so it makes no difference how you choose to judge me. He found me, he spent time with me, and he chose to go back home… I don’t owe him anything more than that.” ✘

✘ “Yeah, I am.” Crude and blunt as always as he scopes out the décor, minimalism should be kept for the offices and hospitals, and even there a dash of homliness wouldn’t go amiss. Leorio remembers the sterile corridors of the hospital waiting for his friend, and wished the children’s ward hadn’t looked as bleak as it did.
He understands it though, Kurapika isn’t pinned to one place for long, he probably doesn’t have time to make anywhere a home and even if he did have the time it would never be the same as the place he really belonged, the one so cruelly snatched away from him.
The elder blows the steam off his own mug and takes a sip, trying not to dwell on those things, maybe sprucing the place up would be a fun way to spend some time together, and distract from the more serious matters of the looming work commitments that they would inevitably discuss. For now Leorio wants to avoid that, even though its important – relaxing and being able to take one’s mind off those things is important too.
“What’s your favourite colour?” He asks out of the blue (oh hey, maybe its blue! Probably not, actually). “Why don’t we go grab some paint and decorate after this?” He asks, gesturing to the tea as he holds up his cup. He still has some of Killua and Gon’s random drawings in his briefcase, maybe he could sneakily stick those up somewhere too, he feels like a genius plotting his little idea. ✘
✗ – Snickering passed the Kurta’s lips as he heard the other’s indignant cry from the door frame, a hand reaching up to cover his mouth at the other’s waving of a teaspoon, as if it was the biggest threat to his well-being at this very moment. Ah yes, Leorio was oh-so intimidating… What a loser.
“Conquer the world, one cup of tea at a time,” Kurapika added as he saw the other slide back into the room, grinning all the while behind his scarred hand, wrapped up in bandages. “I’ll be sure to fear you when you hold a threat of no tea for something you demand.”
Once the elder was done with his tea, he smiled a he took the mug- bland like the rest of his small abode- in his hands before blowing on the steaming liquid surface. He sipped it down, smacking his lips softly as he enjoyed the taste. Ah yes, just like he liked. Either Leorio was a good guesser or remembered him ramble about how he liked it eons ago- his guess was the lather. After all, Leorio could never be such a good guesser. He retracted any smile though when he heard Leorio insult his decor, frowning as he looked over at him. “Are you saying you don’t like my minimalist sense?” Of course he wasn’t being serious, but he acted like it. It had just been a show room that he bought since it was furnished and just placed a few things in, able to call it something close to ‘home,’ even though it wasn’t the real thing (he hardly thought he’d be able to get a true home after everything he’d gone through and was still enduring).

gonprohunter:
Gon paused on the traincar’s rooftop and waited for Leorio to catch up to him. There was enough space for the two of them to safely stop and he had just thought of an idea. If Leorio did join his side, Gon would share his plan: for Leorio to use emission pulses through the roof to stun the perpetrators before he jumped in through a window to finish them off. It was a great plan. They only needed to locate the correct car. Just how far could Leorio’s En reach anyway? He could use En… right? Leorio was such a gangly man. His long arms and legs giving him a spider-like appearance as he made his way along the traintop..those limbs most likely giving him quite the advantage for seeking out other auras! This plan was gonna work.
✘ It’s a miracle Leorio doesn’t fall off the train roof or, well – shit himself, because this is honestly one of the most terrifying things he’s done.
When he looks towards Gon he can’t help but be amazed at how calm the boy looks, was it an age thing? Kids tended to not have as much risk awareness as adults, but then Gon is no ordinary child, and has been exposed to a lot – maybe it actually that; the fact that Gon has been through so many more hellish situations that it doesn’t faze him.
As much as Leorio doesn’t want to admit it, he believes it’s the latter.
Finally, finally he makes it up to where Gon is, looking much paler than he’d previously been, though hey, at least he managed not to lose his glasses!
“OK!! NOW WHAT?!” He shouts over the rush of the wind, still not privy to the plan Gon has already conjured up, for now Leorio simply thinks they’re doomed to fall off a train roof whilst hundreds of passengers die. It’s great….just great. ✘

✘ “Oh?” His interest is sparked for sure, and he looks up at her as she elaborates on the lack of memory. It’s a rare thing indeed, and Ging wonders if having no memories is a good or a bad thing; it must be pretty frustrating.
“That’s strange…and so if these glyphs seem familiar, does that mean you’re thinking they’ll give you the answers to your past?” Perhaps the question is too intrusive, but Ging doesn’t always know when to bite his tongue.
Her questions conjure up some plausible theories. “I suppose it could be one of those reasons, or something entirely different…” Unhelpful as ever in his observations. Still, she seemed pretty excited about the ideas growing in her mind as she scribbled them all down.
“Well, I guess I should get going.” He wasn’t even going far, just to maybe grab a drink from the lobby and join the rest of the investors for the presentation. He stands up, burying his hands in his pockets.
“Good luck with the presentation. I’m looking forward to seeing how it goes.” He makes a point to say ‘see’ and not ‘hear’ since that’s exactly what he’ll be doing, even if she isn’t privy to it yet.
With that he takes his leave, and heads to where the other investors wait. He takes a drink from one of the waiters and plops himself down on one of the seats closest to the presentation area.
This should be very interesting...✘
❛ Once you’ve accepted your flaws, no one can use them against you. ❜ (from Ging)
“Oh I’ve accepted my flaws alright.” Runa said before letting her head hit the desk. Her pitch to get funding for a research project had tanked. “It’s just that they prevent me from functioning like a normal human being. I was promised a small investor group, not….forty people.”
Large groups were never her thing, especially when she had to present her big ‘reasons why you should give me money’ speech.

✘ As their eyes meet the glittering surface of the ocean he can almost feel Gon’s excitement next to him, Ging doesn’t really show it as much but he’s looking forward to the adventure too.
Soon it’s time to make their way down the hill and towards the boat Ging has been able to kindly borrow, he has friends in all sorts of places to it wasn’t difficult to acquire. He could of course have spent his vast hunter earnings on something more luxurious, but where was the fun in that?
Ging gives the boat a slight nudge with his foot before he jumps down into the vessel. It rocks from the motion against the waves. The “Pretty Lady” is only a small and old creature; but she’ll do the job just fine. “Come on then,” He says, instructing for Gon to join him before he unties the ropes so they can begin the voyage towards Kakin and the camp tigers.
After a few more preparations they’re ready to go, and the boat begins to sail forwards.
“So you still use that old fishing rod, huh?” Ging says, between managing the sails when he spots it strapped to Gon’s backpack. “I’m surprised you’ve managed to keep it in such good condition.” ✘
“Ohhhhh! Hahaha! Ok!” Gon liked the sound of that! It would take his mind off things and it sounded like something he and Killua would have done. A familiar sensation of salt and sunbaked algae met Gon’s nose as they reached the top of a hill. The ocean stretched out into a hazy horizon; glittering in the late afternoon sun. By the time they might set sail it would be night. That was the best time for catching a glimpse of sea life, when they came up to play in the warm surface water, without the sun’s glare. Surely he’d spot the Dolphinwhales his fa– Ging had mentioned. Soon enough they arrived at the peer and Gon was delighted with the vessel. It was of no significance whatsoever. Faded paint spelled “Pretty Lady” on the bow, and plenty barnacles. Patched up sails and tired rope adorned the ship that held Gon’s beginnings.

✘ “GAH!!!” Great, first he spills his starbucks everywhere so he can’t even enjoy it, and now his shirt is full of sugar. It certainly didn’t sweeten his sour mood. Why is he being attacked by two Kurapika’s anyway?
“Wait Killua and Gon? Illumi...WHY WAS ILLUMI HERE?!” He screams.
“AND WHY WAS HE TEACHING SEX ED?! THOSE KIDS BETTER NOT BE DOING THE DANCE WITH NO PANTS! AND WHY CORN?????” ✘
✘ “The queue at Starbucks (BuckStar?) was insane! Oh uh…they didn’t have any chai tea.” Lies. “But I got you this” He hands Kurapika one of his half used sashays of sugar.
“So…what did I miss?” ✘

✘ “WOAH!!” Ging raises his hands defensively and steps back, almost failing into the sea waters just below the harbour as she suddenly snaps at him.
“Woah! Woah woah! Calm down! People are staring!!” Ging doesn’t like attention at the best of times, but this is goddamn awful. Maybe he should just take that extra step back and let the sea wash him away from this nightmare. A bead of sweat rolls down his temple. “Lucky huh? I don’t know about that…” He mutters the last bit under his breath, since -well…having a kid wasn’t exactly part of his grand plan.
Still, he couldn’t just ignore this piece of information. He was still in shock over it sure but even he had a small enough sliver of decency to wonder how she must be feeling about all this too. This was just…so much to take in. Ging…a father?
His eyes narrow at her comment. He twiddles his finger in his ear. “Wanting to explore the world isn’t running away from my problems…” But he knows she actually has a very good point, heck, he’s about to jump on a boat to get away from a screaming woman who’s pregnant with his child, that definitely counts as running away from problems!
“Listen…we should probably talk this through, right? Why don’t you come over to the island with me and we can…uh, figure out what to do…” ✘
Nemo breaths deeply once. Twice - and then she hold it, clearly counting to ten in her mind to calm herself. One. He had to be joking. Two. If it was his? Three. Well, it was her fault too. Four. She wasn’t a young and naïve girl. Five. Nemo was a acient being. Six. She should’ve been smarter that his compliments and alcohol. Seven. I mean, she didn’t even liked him. Eight. Sleeping with him was the worst thing she’s ever done. Nine. And “… Is it mine?”?! TEN. - YOU ASSHOLE, IDIOT ASSHOLE. YOU PIECE OF CRAP, FILTHY DISGUSTING MAN! - Well, it could’ve been worst. At least she didn’t had anything in her hands to throw, even knowing he would easily avoid it. Her blood was boiling, pressure rising - and everything converging in her aura manifestation. How could he be so… So… Well, so Ging? - You’re lucky to be stronger than I. Really lucky. After the explosion, her mind went back to herself. That was a stupidity - Ging would never be a father. She fulfilled her obligation and told him - her duty was done and she wouldn’t force him to even ever see the baby. It was her child then, if he doubted. - Well, if you’ll trust me or not, it’s your problem. After all, you’re great at running from your mistakes.

✘ Ging is for the moment blissfully unaware of how his life is about to change forever, he’s too preoccupied in other things like getting Greed Island up and running now he’s finished his latest expedition, his excitement is solely consumed with the game, even whilst on the expedition, it’s all he really speaks about to the rest of the team, and her.
For now he’s at the dock, waiting to take a ship to the Island to get back to working on the Greed Island project, and given that he talks about it so much and little else, it’s no surprise that Nemo easily finds him here.
He recognises her as soon as she walks over, and he instantly feels awkward. With a bit of Dutch courage in his system it was a lot easier to talk to her, to drown her in compliments and invite her back to his temporary lodgings for a night of adult pleasures. But now, in the cold reality of day it dawns on him that he barely knows this girl, and it makes him uncomfortable.
“Oh, uh-” He’s about to make his excuses and leave, until she drops THAT bombshell. For a long moment he is silent, painfully so, it would be fitting for tumbleweed to roll by. Eventually his eyes almost bulge from their sockets and he feels sick.
“!!!!!!”
His internal voice screams ‘PREGNANT?!? PREGNANT?!? GING YOU IDIOT!! WHY DID YOU SLEEP WITH HER?! WHAT THE HELL WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO ME OH GOD, OH GOD!!!’
“..Pregnant huh…well, that is…something….” He fumbles on the words. God, he wants to die. Surely this can’t be real, is she playing a prank on him? He feels his stomach sink, and he closes his eyes, praying to whatever lords there were and ones he didn’t even believe in before muttering the most idiotic thing he has ever muttered.
“……Is it mine?” ✘
(( Starter for @thedadcoalition )) No, no, no, no. That couldn’t be happening. Not now. It was only one night. She wasn’t thinking straight on that moment! But it happened. Oh, Lord, it happened. And now she was pregnant with Ging’s child. Nemo had no idea how to tell him. Actually, she didn’t really wanted to tell him - no, he deserved to know. He was responsible for that too. Oh, no. Not that… A child. A baby that done nothing. Even if the kid would be Ging’s child too, she would love him unconditionally. He or she. Nemo kinda hoped it was a girl - in her mind, when she imagined a boy, all she could think was a baby with Ging’s face. And that was pretty disturbing. That time, it wasn’t hard to find the man. Well, maybe he wanted to be found - or cared so little about Nemo that didn’t cared to avoid her. The woman wasn’t exactly sure what to say - straight to the subject? Yeah, probably that was better. - Ging. Hi. I’m pregnant.

✘Ging isn’t sure what to expect from the blond, which is a first for him – he’s so used to reading people and being pretty damn good at it, so the fact that he is presented with this subliminal fog when he looks at Kurapika really does intrigue him.
Another thing that makes this situation a little odd is that Ging actually finds himself willing to talk about things he otherwise wouldn’t. Perhaps it’s something to do with the fact Kurapika is a Zodiac or has a face so chiselled with sternness and a burning look to his eyes that he stands out from the crowd. However, the reality is more likely something to do with his connections to someone that Ging really ought to know better, and the fact that Ging is itching for conversation.
He can feel the icyness of Kurapika’s cold shoulder, but Ging digresses that there’s no real need for him to fight his corner so long as the younger isn’t backing him into one, so he lets the topic drop, and focuses on Kurapika’s reasons for being here instead.
“Information huh? I should’ve figured as much…” He himself had been here for the very same reason, so it’s really no surprise. A sudden howl of wind thrashes against the walls, and following that the sound of incessant raindrops licking against the window panes. He can feel the mutt by his feet getting a little restless too.
“Well, if they’re not here now, they might be a while…looks like a big storm is on it’s way.” Ging replies nonchalantly, taking a sip of his drink. “So what’s this thing you’re looking for anyway?”✘

✘ Kurapika’s anger is almost palpable, Ging feels like if he puts his tea in the blond’s hands that boiling blood would soon make it bubble over too, but of course he doesn’t do that – he’s not a total weirdo. When Kurapika says that Gon is happy Ging’s expression doesn’t change an inch, he can’t say the news overwhelmes him or has much of an impact. Gon is his child by blood, but no child he’s actually raised himself; he doesn’t deny it.
“Oh, I’m not asking for Gon’s sake or mine, it’s none of my business if he’s happy or not.” Ging explains nonchalantly, before taking a sip of his tea.“I asked because you’re looking at me like I spat in your tea and told you it’s sugar.” He sighs, shifting a bit because for some reason the way he slouches now is more comfortable then the way he was slouching before.
“What I’m saying is if the kid’s happy then my lack of involvement makes no difference… Actually, if things had gone the way they were supposed to, or the way they should have, he probably wouldn’t be happy at all.” Ging ponders aloud, there had been three options back then, and Ging thinks the one to leave had been the best, and still is. It suited him well, and it looks like it suited the child too.
For now the elder returns his gaze to Kurapika.
“Anyway, are you still gonna give me the cold shoulder or tell me the real reason you’re here? I might be able to help, you know…” If it’s information Kurapika wants, then Ging has it in spades, it’s a small peace offering, having enemies is too much of a hassle for Ging.✘
