"Competent is a bit of an understatement." Harry said dryly, green eyes moving from the thing he was looking at to his former professor. "Oh I don't know, the headmaster of the school was a bit of a quack wasn't he? With all due respect of course." he smirked, his feelings about Dumbledore were... complicated now that he had some distance from everything.
"But yeah, fifth year Defense was basically useless." Which is why Hermione had basically forced him to start the Dumbledore's Army. In retrospect he appreciate it, it was the beginning of him wanting to be a defense teacher- something he was still working with.
He hesitated, staring at Lupin and rolling the words over in his brain. "I agree. The muggles have a saying um... The road to hell is paved with good intentions, and I think that's true. I'm kind of living proof of that y'know?"
His lips quirked in a little smile. "That may be true. I will say one thing, at least I was a competent teacher." He rolled his eyes, unable to help himself. Some of the Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers that had been employed over the years....really hadn't deserved the job or made much of a difference besides being annoying obstacles. "Kinda defeats the purpose of the class if the professor is a bit of a quack, doesn't it?"
Or just...well...however one would describe Umbridge. He had a few very amusing descriptions in his head himself, but decided to not say them outloud.
He noticed the atmosphere change a bit and his smile softened with a bit of a twinkle in his eyes. "You know Harry, I think the outcome is more important than even the intent. I know a lot would disagree with me, but...I'm a firm believer that a lot of bad can be done with the best of intentions....so what matters is the good that came of it."
He gave Harry a gentle pat.

@tnott from here
Harry snorted, "You should have- honestly it would have been funny." he shrugged, looking at the other "But hexing them was pretty funny, so I guess that's an alright substitute." he shrugged. "Well, they say it is a miracle- maybe the miracle is surviving it?"
It's not like Nott was one of his friends, but they both didn't annoy each other and he couldn't care less about the politics of being a pure blood- it wasn't the dark ages anymore, despite how many of the old families wanted it to be.
"Don't they make magic or potions that help with..." Rather than finish his sentence he just waived in her general direction. "Honestly pure blood mentality is a bunch of nonsense."

Harry snorted, "A little traumatizing is good for you, it builds character." he shrugged but the corner of his lips twitched with the urge to smile as they walked towards the great hall. In all seriousness he wouldn't put the students through something that might scar them- he had fought for them to have a better life after all.
Harry did his due diligence of nodding at the professors- greeting the ghosts, everything he was supposed to do despite the fact that it still felt so odd for him to be a professor after everything, in some ways it felt like he was just walking back into the castle for the first time at eleven years old.
"Oh merlin, it still feels weird to be called professor, and I'm not even a first year professor- I've been doing this awhile I think." Harry let out a small laugh as she played along with him.
"Well, we're out of the castle- and we didn't get detention." Harry said dryly, "What do you wanna do first?"
"Come now, there's no need to traumatize students. Or have parents write me owls demanding compensation for said traumatization." she remembered all the panic over her 10 year at Hogwarts. Well some of it had been entertaining, most of it have been excruciating.
She Fell silent until they reach the Great Hall, nodding to a few professors and ghosts as she walked. It was odd to feel at peace Within These Walls. But she was happy to finally be able to. Her cane tapped lightly along the stone as they exited the castle. It always felt odd to come back. But it was always like coming home. "We shall be Professor."
Her voice was teasing as they walked to the forest. She told him about the purchase of one of his students, she had felt bad. More and more often they seem to think she would Supply them with ingredients for forbidden potions. And while she did encourage learning and experimentation, it did not come at the potential expense of classmates.

Harry wondered for a moment if he was predictable. But it was a genuine answer. Hesitating for a moment at her question he nodded, "Easier." Even if sometimes the weight of the prophecy was nearly suffocating, but even at his darkest they had been able to pull him out of that darkness. "It's what makes us different from the dark wizards."
"I still can't believe the wizarding world does betrothals. That feels..." Harry gave the other a small smile; an innocent one mixed with a little bit of pity. "So you're from one of the old families?" he asked, realizing he knew very little about her.
The grin brought out one of his own, "I can't imagine being stuck with Malfoy of all people."
aurora could have predicted that answer. she nodded along to his words, a soft sigh escaping her lips. " it makes it easier, doesn't it? when you can share with someone, " aurora mused, " i admit, i don't know your friends well, but it should be clear to anyone how much they care about you. " at least, it was clear to aurora ― but the blonde had always been able to see things like that. she had too much kindness in her heart with hardly a place for it to go.
" i can't relate, " the blonde huffed, trying to lighten the mood, " i only have old family friends, which, feels more like a obligation and a betrothed with a stick up his ass. " she retorted with a cheeky grin, knowing how harry didn't get along with draco.

Harry jumped slightly when she gasped and then raised his eyebrow even higher. "Since when do you spend so much time admiring Luna Lovegood's appearance? Besides, you're far more attractive." The words just slipped out and his cheeks turned a shade of red- his eyes averting from her gaze.
Once they were in the kitchen he set to work making tea for them- not quite sure how to proceed after saying what he'd said. The young wizard had never quite figured out how to express himself, and sometimes things slipped out like they had earlier.
"A bit sad..." Harry exhaled, "It's sad not being able to see them, but honestly? I can't help but be happy that I'm here. Every day is a struggle." He didn't sleep well, the nightmares... Merlin the Nightmares. "I never thought I'd make it this far." he confessed, "So I enjoy adulthood- even if I miss some of the stuff I had as a child... does that make sense?"
Harry still felt... lost, for lack of a better term. But he would be starting as the defense teacher soon and that was at least something. Once the tea was done he set down across from her, levitating her tea cup over to her just because he could.
"I imagine you miss it though, school? Being the bookworm and all." Harry teased affectionately.
Of course she had been about to argue, but she had stopped herself. She was doing her best to not make him regret opening up to her, after all, because she realized how difficult it was for him---
But then he said--
She gasped, as if offended by what he'd said. "Bloody hell, Harry, how can you say that? Luna looks like a doll---she's absolutely gorgeous! How can I not be jealous? I'm only human!"
She stepped back to allow him to unlock the door and then followed him inside. When he mentioned catching up with those from school, she nodded a bit. "Tea," she affirmed before heading to the kitchen to take a seat. "They ask about you all the time, you know. Though, even I don't get to see them as much as I wish I could....it's a bit sad isn't it, Harry? Being an adult."
This was the sort of thing they were never prepared for. Honestly, she couldn't even blame the adults around them for that---they had been far more focused on the war---but still...

"Look I know I'm partially to blame for getting your parents killed, but have you considered the fact that if they had lived, you would've had to have dealt with Bathlida Bagshot as a neighbour? I did you a favour!" (from iiscariot xoxo)
"Oh right. A real favor you did me- good thing too." Harry paused, unable to resist the urge to roll his eyes. " I would have rather grown up with the Dursleys than know my parents, Sirius, and everything else I missed out on. Great bloody favor, you miserable traitor!" Anger seeped into his tone, "Seriously- are you listening to yourself?"

" there's too much on my mind . " from @tnott
Harry nodded, grabbing his wand and then summoning a chair with a muttered 'accio' and sitting down, his wand tapping against his lap absentmindedly. "I understand that- as hard as it might be to believe." Green eyes glanced up at her with a soft expression. "Wanna talk about it?"

" the world ended when it happened to me . " from @tnott
His world had ended so many times, honestly he had no idea where to even begin. "It's never easy coming back from the end of the world." Even if it was metaphorical, he had been in that position- even if he didn't know exactly what had happened. "But there's nothing you can't come back from... If you want too."
