I CANT WITH BLAKEâS NERVOUS LITTLE âTry and keep up!â

LIKE OF COURSE SHE ALREADY KNOWS SHE LOVES YANG AT THIS POINT BUT SHE WAS STILL SO NERVOUS BECAUSE YANG NEVER OPENED HER BIG DUMB BEAUTIFUL EYES AND REALIZED âHEY MAYBE BLAKE LIKING ME BACK IS POSSIBLEâ. I DONâT THINK THE THOUGHT EVER CROSSED YANG SO SHE SETTLED FOR ALWAYS STICKING BY HER SIDE AND JUST DEALING WITH THESE FEELINGS SILENTLY.
MAD RESPECT FOR MS BELLADONNA, THAT WOMAN WAS DOWN SO BAD THE ENTIRE VOLUME SHE FULL SENT THIS BITCH.

YeahâŚIt Makes a Lot of Sense

I really want to applaud the crew on how well they paralleled Yang and Renâs abandonment issues this last episode. Specifically the irony that a lot of what Yang is calling Ren out on is stuff that she specifically does herself to cope.
It isnât surprising that the two share coping mechanisms, given their backgrounds. Itâs not uncommon for people with abandonment issues (like Yang and Ren) to internalize the pain and anger of being left and direct it at themselves instead of those that hurt them. Essentially try to identify the âreasonâ those people left to try and âfixâ in themselves so it never happens again. Ren blamed himself for being too weak to stop the Nuckelavee, so he resolved to become a âtrue huntsmanâ. Yang feared Raven and Summer left because she wasnât âgood enoughâ so she decided to become someone to look up to. Itâs not fair to either of them. They absolutely had no fault in their situations, but blaming themselves gives a sense of control. They can âfixâ themselves. They canât âfixâ giant grimm monsters, ideological suicide missions or the abstract fear of motherhood. Those are big things WAY out of their control. Pushing people away gives them time to try and do that without having to worry about scaring people away or feeling that pain again.
Despite the similarity, these two tend to go about it in total opposite ways. Ren typically internalizes, keeping his thoughts and feelings to himself. But, as weâre seeing now, when his emotions hit a breaking point (such as, âcrap. Maybe Iâm not a real huntsman, maybe Iâm still just a scared little kidâ) he starts externalizing and lashing out at those around him. Yang, on the other hand, typically externalizes her emotions - wearing them on her sleeve for the world to see - until she hits a breaking point. At which point she shuts down and begins internalizing: taking the pain out on herself. Sheâs picking up on Renâs signals because he is finally expressing them in a way sheâs used to doing herself.
Which makes her silence in this scene so equally important and ironic. Sure, she empathizes with Ren, apologizes on his behalf to Jaune and tries to present where heâs coming from. But she never directly says she relates to him. This is the character who used her very first appearance to the world to declare âI Burnâ. What do you do when you touch something hot? You pull back. You do your best to leave that stove top alone so that it can do itâs job. From scene one this character has worn the fact that she keeps her emotional distance from people on her sleeve. And she saysâŚnothing.
Sheâs thinking it, though. When Jaune confides in her, you can see it in her eyes - that hesitation. That urge to just say âyeah, me, tooâ.

But she doesnât. Instead she turns away. Starts working on the motor. Honestly I canât blame her. Itâs scary to think that thereâs something outside of her control (her subconscious) that might cause her to push people away whether she wants to or not. She knows sheâs done it before. But, sheâs made so much progressâŚsurely sheâs past it. But what ifâŚ? Like I said, itâs not something she can control. And she knows sheâs been distant. I mean itâs been 3 volumes and she has yet to open up about Raven or parse out her feelings about Blake leaving.
Itâs only natural for her mind to wander. MaybeâŚthink of someone sheâs scared of losing. Someone sheâs already lost before. Remembering looking into that someoneâs eyes, reassuring them that she isnât a monster only to have them vanish hours later. Of how maybe, if sheâd done better at controlling herself against Mercury, the aftermath of the Fall may have turned out differently. And how that person is now miles away. On the opposite side of a split Yang unintentionally caused and wonder if sheâs pushing her away again.

Y'all know who Iâm talking about right? Yeah,

Sure, Jaune.

Real talk though, can we talk about Taiyangâs reaction? This is the first time heâs seeing Ruby in months. This is the first time heâs even hearing from her since that letter she sent to him back during the v4 finale within the first couple hours of making it to Mistral, and who knows if that letter even made it home! Itâs been months since then, with Taiyang not having heard from either of his daughters since Yang left. And now he finally gets to hear from one of them and itâs on a television screen on a channel thatâs not supposed to be working and hasnât worked since Beacon fell a year ago, as she tells the world about a super important secret that heâs one of the few people on the planet who knew about it beforehand! He was on STRQ, he knows how dangerous Salem is, and now hereâs Ruby, revealing to the whole world that sheâs now a part of this war. Heâs probably feeling proud, excited, scared, terrified, helpless. Ruby just said Atlas was under attack and then the feed goes out! I canât even imagine all of the feelings Taiyang must be feeling as he watches the screen go blank and his baby girl fade off the tv monitor.
This is how we leave Taiyang Xiao Long. In a dark room with nothing but a couple lamps and the tv for light, of which the tv is the brightest light in the room, holding his head in his hands while his dog tries to comfort him. All of this after begging to see his youngest daughter for just a second longer.
I feel so bad for this man.
