LivelRunlSmile Make a difference, run to make them smile. Live, run and smile. How this running event was called is exactly its main purpose. As runners, we would want to share the joy through joining running events for the charities. LivelRunlSmile is a run to be held at Bonifacio Global City on September 4, 2016 under Rundom Media,Inc. This run is open for children and adults who want to have a fun running experience and also for the competitive running athletes out there. The runners could choose from short distances (3K, 5K) to long distance running (10K,21K). Registration is easy. Visit www.rundommedia.com for online registration. Ask Doc RUNS WE NEED TO KNOW Whether you are running for fitness or setting a personal record, having a basic knowledge about the different runs you should try is a total must. We train not just for PR. We train for proper body metabolism in order to maximize our energy stores to sustain long runs. We don’t have to go too fast because it is the endurance we build. If we go beyond what our body can endure, we are prone to injuries and muscle fatigue which we don’t want us haunting during the marathons. LACTATE THRESHOLD RUN Our body produces lactate as an end product of an exhausting physical activity such as running. It becomes the lactic acid which upon production causes the soreness in the muscles ending up to fatigue. Our body has a running pace before it will start to produce lactate. That is the pace/speed is the one you have to sustain for training in order to avoid muscle fatigue. You can do a lactate threshold run by starting a 15-20 minutes of easy running. For the next hour, Run at a pace that you can sustain without feeling like running out of air. Run on a pace where you can still talk at ease. The moment you feel hunger for air is the start of anaerobic metabolism ( an exercise where you are not using oxygen anymore as direct source of energy). This is what are avoiding when you want maximize your running. We should sustain running with aerobic metabolism so we avoid muscle fatigue. Then to finish the run, cool down by jogging for 5 to 10 minutes. RACE PACE RUN This is the pace where you want to maximize metabolism of fats and carbohydrates during the desired half or full marathon. Your body should learn this pace to be able to sustain the energy without getting easily fatigued. Make sure you hydrate properly and use electrolyte replacers such as electrolyte salts or energy gels with electrolyte replacement to avoid cramps. Do this run for at least once a month (let’s say every 3 weeks). For half marathon training, warm up for 3 kms, run at your pace without air hunger for 10-13km then cool down the next 2km. For full marathon training, do a 3km warm up then 10 to 22km race pace run then 2 km cool down. PROGRESSION RUN This type of run starts at an easy but gradually progresses in speed. Your body should adapt to this pace in order to avoid usage of glycogen stores during the early intervals of your long runs. If your body starts to use glycogen easily, fatigue happens earlier which we don’t want to when we aim the full marathon. Warm up for 15 mins then do a 30 minute run where in you increase speed every after 5 minutes for about 10 seconds. For the last 5 minutes, run at your fastest sustained speed with a precaution of not letting air hunger. Cool down for 10 minutes. Now hit your goals. If you want to train for 5-10k, do at least one lactate threshold run and progression run every training week. In between days remember to rest or do easy pace running. For 21k-42k, do all the types of run every week, (3 days of different runs with rests in between days). Rest in between days and remember to carbo load the day before your race pace run for proper energy storage.

My first official run was during Run United 1 2015, when I challenged myself to do a 10k run. I usually just jog and run about 3k, 3x a week just to maintain fitness. I never thought I will go beyond the distance. This is indeed the start of my running adventures. 😘💪😂🙌👟
