So I was reading a random romance before bed last night and suddenly it comes up that one of MCs has Rejection Sensitivity Disphoria (RSD). I wanted to confirm that I knew exactly what that was, so naturally I did a quick Bing… and suddenly a lot of things about my personality made much more sense. It turns out that people who have ADHD also struggle with this quite often.

I’ve been watching Beyond The Gates with my mom this week and I think it has a lot of potential. It’s going to take a while to settle in and it’ll be some time before I spent half the episode trying to sort out who all the characters are. There are a couple things that I’m hoping they’ll smooth out with time:

- a lot of the characters really come across as actors reading lines rather than fully developed characters. I don’t know if it’s more the writing or the actors but I assume this will even out with time.

- Dani needs to get a storyline beyond the scorned wife relatively soon. She’s the most dynamic character on the show but will become one note VERY quickly.

- I hope the writers find ways to incorporate the civil rights aspects of the characters’ backgrounds in more subtle ways. Right now it feels like the characters are occasionally detouring into afterschool special territory, rather than that story background serving any purpose to the current action.

Still gonna watch though, gotta support that this show is even getting a chance to exist.
