They decidedly did not kick ass, but they did look good showing up to get their asses beat. 😔

10/10 Would read.
also, someone has to be brave enough to say it: too many mainstream hockey romance books about being a wag in the stands and NOT enough hockey romance books about being an exasperated penalty box attendant developing feelings for the team miscreant who ends up in the box twice a game minimum

I *totally* get why 911 had to get rid of him, but man, I miss Michael. I used to love the actor, for a start, but he was also such a great character.
A man unlearning unhealthy patterns to become an openly gay Black man. Learning how to still be a father when no longer a husband. Learning how to be a husband again. Teaching his son how to navigate growing up as a Black boy and the unfair responsibility for his own safety that puts on him, helping his kids figure out what it means to be Black and have a cop mom.
His relationship with Athena was meaty and complex and gave both actors so much to do! Learning that a failed marriage doesn't have to mean a failed family; realising that hurt doesn't negate love. That the depth of love they shared didn't change even though it wasn't the kind of love they both initially hoped for / pretended (which, if you go there, also provides potential parallels with Eddie and Shannon...)
And Michael and Bobby! The rollercoaster for Michael from being relieved Athena found someone - which helped assuage his guilt - to genuinely liking him. But also the insecurity and anger and fear - that Athena found someone but he (initially) didn't; that his kids might prefer Bobby, that he might be replaced. The relief that his kids would have Bobby if he died, with all the sadness that leaving them would entail. Just a great example of non-toxic adult male friendship.
And then just their full on devolution into high jinks and shenanigans! The rage room! Trashing the fireplace! "Well, then, like him back!" The Rear Window insanity!
We were robbed of so much potential fun!
