Queer Witchtips:
My pronouns are she/her! You can find these in my blog description, but I’m also okay with they/them if you forget, no worries!
I am pansexual, so this is my flag! The old flag’s creator is transphobic, ableist, and supports bi/pan-lesbians, so I prefer this pan flag that was created by a Twitter user :)
Are you like me and you always enjoy a good cup of coffee or tea? I get it. Before you drink, always stir in your intention - great for if you’re still in the broom closet!
In order to participate in #shareyourpride while also being relevant to my page, I’ll be sharing a little bit of both in my June series, queer witchtips. Hope you enjoy :)

Hey everyone,
I sincerely apologize, but I will be taking a months break from the platform. I’m sure you’ve noticed how my posting has been a little spotty lately, and I think that’s it’s time to be honest.
I’m very much struggling between my craft and my religion. PLEASE DONT MISREAD, I’m still very firm in my craft, and I’d never abandon it!! I just... don’t know whether to call myself a Christian witch anymore.
Don’t get me wrong, I still believe the basics, but I find it incredibly difficult to associate myself with a religion that is (right now at least) spreading so much hate and condemnation. It’s embarrassing, and I’m ashamed.
I want to spend a month to just reevaluate. Do some shadow work, practice, etc, and find just how I want to label myself.
I love you guys SO MUCH,
I appreciate all of you.
Blessed be,
The Young Sea Witch

Online Grimoires
This may seem silly to some, but I actually prefer to have my grimoire online so it can be readily accessed at any point that I need it. It’s incredibly useful, and so some people have asked me how I do it.
Other people in my coven use Pinterest as an online grimoire, and I highly encourage that. Pinterest can be great for witches, but always make sure that everything seems... legit. It is still an online source, of course.
However, I personally use Zinnia! Zinnia is a great app, where you can journal on your phone. You don’t ever have to worry about messing up and you can experiment all you like. It truly is my favorite witchy app that I have on my phone.
Witching can absolutely be convenient guys, but always make your craft... your craft.
Also, I’m reaching 250 followers soon! I am so happy that people appreciate my blog and can learn from it. It’s such a blessing.
Love you guys and blessed be,
The Young Sea Witch.

Christian Witchcraft Controversies
Divination, Deities, and Other Topics: Where Do Christians Fall?
I haven’t been very active recently, and there’s a reason for that, actually. Today, I prepared an extra long post for Christian Witches, with tons of research. If you have any questions, drop one in my inbox or message me, but here’s Christianity vs. Controversy!
Christianity vs. Divination
If you grew up in a strict religious household like I did, you’re most likely very familiar with the Deuteronomy 18:9-12. “When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And because of these abominations the Lord your God is driving them out before you."
What exactly is this verse saying? Is it saying that you can’t use your tarot cards or pendulums or examine numerology? Here’s the simple answer: No!
Ancient divination is actually very different from how it is practiced today. Divination back then specifically used human sacrifices and calling upon demons and false gods, which made our own Deity very angry.
As long as you use your divination practices in the eyes of God, you are perfectly fine.
Christianity vs. Pagan gods
Firstly, if you are a Christian, we have to understand that Pagan gods aren’t really gods to us. We, of course, believe in the holy trinity. In full honesty, I don’t even exactly know what Pagan gods are to Christian witches, because the answer is both yes and a no.
Some people like to think of them as demons, others angels, some think of them as just plain imaginary beings. I think to be clear, some of them are demons. Some may argue most of them, others may not, and that’s okay. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs. We know that some of them are demons in Christianity, as they encouraged sacrifice, cutting, and overall destruction. “They stirred him to jealousy with strange gods; with abominations they provoked him to anger. They sacrificed to demons that were no gods, to gods they had never known” (Deut 32:16-17).
However, some of the pagan gods are strikingly similar to the angels and archangels that God mentions. For example, some pagans worship Uriel, a mentioned archangel of God, but whom is more commonly referred to as Demeter in the pagan religion. Many of the other archangels are also gods in the pagan religion.
If you want to work with a spirit as pagans do, that’s not wrong. However, I highly encourage researching, and seeing whether what reached out to you was a demon or an angel of God. As long as they don’t take priority over God, and instead help you in your worship with God, our archangels can seriously help us in our practice.
Christianity vs. Nature
A very big part of Wiccan practice is the worship of nature and all things natural. Is this wrong for Christians to do the same? No! The early verses of Genesis specifically talk about how God created both the heavens and the Earth, and in my opinion, it is vital to adore his creations. However, again, just don’t let it become a higher priority than God himself.
Christianity vs. Rituals
No, it’s not wrong. Christianity in itself has its own rituals, for all things Holy! Baptism and Communion themselves are rituals! Having a ritual simply defines setting a specific accordance to which you go through a step by step process in your worshipping of God. That’s all.
Christianity vs. Astrology
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I had a mother who told me that astrology is controlled by demons. Astrology is perfectly fine. God uses it himself in telling Abraham of his sons, and he communicated with several people through astrology. We are all created uniquely, but at the same time, God decides the time we are born, who we will be and etcetera… It’s not a coincidence that these things match up.
Christianity vs. The Wheel of the Year
I’ve gotten a lot of people ask what I celebrate; Christian holidays or pagan ones? The answer? Both! Celebrating a new time of the year and still celebrating God is completely possible, and it’s silly to think it’s not.
If you’ve been raised Christian, you’re told a lot of silly things that really just aren’t true, and if you want to see my research, here are all of my sources below! Blessed be, everyone.

Basics of Sea Witchcraft
As we know, many witches specialize in a particular area of the craft, or bond with a particular element, therefore centering their practice around such. Me and others label ourselves as sea witches, and for those in training who feel bonded to the sea, I thought I’d give a little bit of an introduction to such and maybe clear up a few things, too. So, here are five simple clarifications for the sea witch in training!
You don’t have to live near the sea to be a sea witch. This may seem shocking, but I don’t live near any sort of ocean or beach. I’ve only been to one once, and I remember it being one of my most memorable experiences. Being a sea witch only means that you bond to the water and that in its natural element & place, whilst a water witch means that you only bond to water itself.
Intimacy with the Sea. Being intimate with bodies of water is vital to being a sea witch. You don’t have to do anything magical, just forming a connection with the water and its area is very important to your craft, and is a high suggestion from me.
Tools. In full honesty, a lot of my tools come from water areas. I have an entire bowl of seashells, sea salt, and random trinkets to help me. Using such tools makees your craft a lot stronger.
Cleansing. Another vital part of my craft is cleansing regularly. It’s very important to me, and it is for a lot of other sea witches.
Vulnerability. Just like the water, be free and open. If you truly are a sea witch, it will be uncomfortable. You’ll crash into things, but eventually, you’ll find yourself just doing it naturally.
I know that these are vague. But, I really just wanted to give whatever basics I can. If you have any questions, please just ask, I’m always happy to answer!

My Full Moon Ritual
Hello Friends,
I decided I’d talk a little bit about my full moon ritual. I know that if you’re a baby witch, it can be really difficult trying to figure out your own personal rituals, so I thought this could be a good start for you to look into someone else’s time.
I don’t know if most people do this, but I actually start my ritual with cleansing. I don’t just clean my altar, either. Often, I cleanse the vibes around my entire home. I don’t like the smell of burning sage, as I have a really sensitive sense of smell, so I will instead burn candles and use a concoction that I found on Pinterest.
If you guys don’t know, Pinterest can be incredibly useful for witchcraft. Just make sure that you fact check everything you get from there, just as you should any other social media platform. I keep a clear spray bottle (simply for the aesthetic, naturally) and fill it with a mixture of moon water and stormwater. I add a few drops of sage essential oil & lavender oil, and set my intention. If I’m feeling it, then I also add a clear quartz crystal, but that’s optional. If you guys are closeted, I really recommend this method!
After I cleanse, I actually meditate for my desired amount of time. If you’re getting started with meditation, I know that it can be really hard. You want to shift around and everything else, which makes it difficult. If you have the resources, I recommend this wonderful book entitled “Meditation Made Simple,” by Dr. Paula Watkins. During the full moon, when you’re meditating, make sure to focus on your blessings and intentions specifically.
By this time, I charge my moon water & crystals. I smudge my jars, and say my prayer. I know for Christian witches, it can be really difficult knowing what to say, so here’s mine!
Oh God with your guiding light that shines upon me, please charge this water with your perfect love and grace, so mote it be.”
Afterwards, I’ll give myself a tarot reading, bathe, and do a full moon yoga practice. I’d be more in depth, but I’m sure you guys don’t want that.
I hope this helps you with your journeys! Blessed be!

Hi! I really love your blog and it was difficult for me to find someone who was both a Christian witch and works with the sea. So this has been a delight! I was wondering if you made a master post or something like that for baby witches?
Oh my gosh, thanks so much! I'm so happy that I'm helping others with validation, and just on their journey in general. I will absolutely make a master post soon with all of my original posts, and edit it each week as I come out with something new!

Navigating Tarot
One of the more popular forms of divination, tarot cards, can be both incredibly useful and complicated. There are special rules used by practitioners, some of which I’d like to talk about. In other words, this is a good general guide to getting started with tarot.
Connection
Connecting with your deck is incredibly important, and vital to your relationship with your cards. Keep in mind, your cards are their own entity. Having a weak relationship with them isn’t beneficial for either of you. Some great ways to connect with your deck are through meditation, spending time with them, asking questions, and just generally speaking not abusing them.
Cleanse
Not cleansing your deck can have serious consequences. Not only will it hurt your relationship with your deck, but your readings will be out of whack. Some of the most popular forms of cleansing are moonlight, smudging, and crystals. Any and all of these methods are great.
Simplicity
As a beginner, don’t do any sort of complicated spreads. I know it’s tempting; you just want to jump right in! Start with just one week in the very least of pulling a card from your deck each day and interpreting it; it increases your familiarity with the cards and their meanings. Personally, whenever I want information about the cards, I love to go to Biddy Tarot. See them here: https://www.biddytarot.com/tarot-card-meanings/
Respect
I’ve said it before, but again, your deck is its own entity. Treat it with the respect it deserves.
Journal, Journal, Journal
Every time you do a spread, I recommend jotting it down. It helps your growth significantly. Just include the date, deck used, spread, results, interpretation and your reflection.
Alternatives
I understand that this can be complicated if you’re in the broom closet; perhaps you can’t get a deck, or maybe you just feel uncomfortable practicing around others. If that’s the case, you can use playing cards! Here’s what I use in such a situation to help me: https://exemplore.com/fortune-divination/How-to-Read-Tarot-with-Playing-Cards

Celebrating Samhain
Hello dear friends,
I apologize for not being active; I hope you can forgive me as I return with some wonderful ways to celebrate Samhain.
Samhain is celebrated on October 31, November 1, and November 2, so it’s a three day holiday. It is celebrated as the beginning of the wheel of the year for pagan witches, and many other witches have come to adopt it as well, as well as making it a tradition to honor lost loved ones or family members. In other words, it's become one of the more important witch holidays.
As we all know, we celebrate the different holidays with our own sort of a ‘rule book.’ Here is mine, very simply laid out for you to read and maybe even partake in!
Firstly, how do I get in the mood to celebrate a holiday that the majority doesn’t? Personally, I like to decorate with the average fall trinkets; acorns, sunflowers, pumpkins, burlap, gourds, plaid vintage lace, dried flowers, pine cones, and pottery. Also, considering the meaning of this holiday, I make sure that there are several photos of loved ones who have passed are around my home or on my phone, just as a gentle reminder.
Generally, it’s best to keep to certain colors during holidays, and Samhain includes such. Great colors to incorporate into your outfit, craft, or the everyday mundane include: black, brown, yellow, purple, gold, silver, and red. You probably recognize these as common ‘Halloween’ colors, but little does everyone know that they got Halloween from Samhain.
I also like to cook, as I used to be a kitchen witch before I was literally screamed at to be a sea witch. Either is wonderful, I love both, but it is nice to get back into that kitchen witchery occasionally. For Samhain, I love anything that includes apples, cider, or root-vegetables. I always make a pot full of cider, and make apple crisp to enjoy in the days previous or during the holiday.
And don’t worry, I don’t forget crystals. Samhain has some of my favorites: smoky quartz, amber, obsidian, pyrite, and onyx. They’re all lovely, especially paired with some of Samhain-specific symbols, bats, cats, blackbirds and cauldrons.
Also, if you’re into flowers and greenery, here’s what you should use: sunflowers, wild ginseng, and wormwood.
Now, onto my ritual. Here it is, step by step!
Make an outfit of my choice, reflecting who I may want to be in the upcoming year.
Play music as I decorate and begin the celebration for the beginning of the wheel of the year.
Honor loved ones who have passed on
Connect with family/friends
Set intentions for the new year
Make a bonfire
Happy Samhain, dear friends! Blessed be!

Thank you for finally saying something.
On that note, don't even dare interacting with my page if you use white sage unless you are native American. Just thought I'd add that in.
I'm wondering what the post you shared means by saying "cottagecore fantasies are colonial" I wish to live away from capitalistic societies, live a slower life, live sustainably and more aligned with nature, these seem like good wants. I feel like there must be something I am missing. Is it that I shouldn't have a land related wish at all on land that isn't mine? I'm genuinely curious pls help (if you have the time you are by no means obligated) have a nice day!
Even if your intentions are good or generally benign, you’d still be trying to escape capitalism via settling (yes, settling) on Indian Land, which would either be unceded & currently stolen by North American countries, or reserve/treaty land, which could potentially be chipped down by you simply being there. People are trying to live solitary lives in the woods without thinking about how their presence would affect Indigenous peoples, our land rights, or our sovereignty. Cottagecore is colonial fantasy because there’s nothing that seperates modern randos trying to do this and colonists who came to North America to do the same thing. Farming & homesteading was and IS used as a form of colonialism, which moniyaws would benefit from should they attempt to pursue it. Consider the following:
Canada would falsely advertise the Canadian prairies as “unused” land ready for the taking to European immigrants to encourage them to immigrate to Canada to replace the Plains Indian population. Like in this one, or this one, which was trying to depict the plains as being free of Buffalo and ready for cattle instead (hint: it wasn’t. there were skill plains Indians and bison around.)
Going off that, alongside the fur trade & white hunters nearly hunting the Bison population to extinction, farming was utilized as a forced way of life and assimilation to now-starving plains Natives. Our two choices were 1. starve and die off, or 2. assimilate and start farming. In Sarah Carter’s paper “Two Acres and a Cow”, she explains how Natives were set up for failure in farming by giving us shitty equipment, extreme restrictions on trading or selling produce, extreme restrictions on leaving reserves & denial of applying for credit. However, despite all this, a lot of Natives got pretty good at farming. Until white settlers complained of competition of course, and so the land that Natives had farmed was then given to said white settlers. This is why Alberta and Saskatchewan (known for our prairies and crops) have so much farmland and cropland. Because it was stolen from Natives, who got successful at it.
Despite all this, Plains Natives have been trying to decolonize and revitalize the Plains due to it being one of the most diverse, yet most endangered landscapes in the world. Prairie grasslands also absorb more CO2 & release more oxygen than trees. On top of that, the only reason the Bison populations had gone up to what they are now due to a humungous group effort by various Plains tribes across North America with bison ranches/sanctuaries. We eventually hope to be able to be nomadic or at least hunt Bison once again. Randos trying to farm & have ranches & shit kinda interferes with that. & there’d be people, of course, unwilling to let go of their ranches & farms & cottages in favour of our decolonizing (which is what’s happening NOW) despite the fact that its. Our land. This is both entitled & colonial.
In fact, there’s a whole swath of (white) people actually dedicated to stopping Bison ranches & sanctuaries in favor of farms & European ranches which. Speaks for itself.
A lot of reserves have also gotten chipped down in size due to random European immigrants and settlers just deciding to settle on reserve land without asking, so the land that they occupy suddenly becomes theirs. This happened to my reserve with some Irish hutterites that came. This absolutely does still happen, & if Natives try to contend with this the first excuse is always “But there’s PEOPLE living there! The farms???”
The government LOVES random Moniyaws who want land to farm on so much that they “give away” land to people who ask sometimes. Without asking Natives, of course. See above point. You automatically have a privileged advantage with cottagecore fantasies because it directly plays into helping colonize us & displace us from our land.
Farms are also used against Native land claims when we’re trying to legally “get back” what technically and legally should still be ours. Brazil is going through some similar issues right now.
And that’s just a few things! Again, cottagecore is inherently colonial because there’s literally no difference between it and what European settlers were doing back in the day. It plays a big part in our colonization & interferes with our efforts for decolonizing & land reclamation.
