the glee wss casting has been annoying me for a while and I need to rant about it
first - puck and santana? great choices for bernardo & anita
mike as riff? l o v e
blaine as tony is great and that casting works
but what doesn't? rachel as maria
WRITERS - IT DOESN'T ALWAYS NEED TO BE THE RACHEL BERRY SHOW
TINA WAS RIGHT THERE AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH MORE FITTING (justice for tina)
You can't cast a white woman as a character who is supposed to be of colour, it ruins the whole point of the story. It's so clear how much the writers favour Rachel when they disregard one of the KEY elements for the character, just to give her the lead role.
(pls correct me if I got anything wrong! - and feel free to add your thoughts)

A (somewhat) Comprehensive and (hopefully) Correct Guide to Newsboy Grammar & Speech
Hello Newsies Fandom! So when writing fics, you may feel compelled to write using the grammar and slang that our beloved newsboys use in the show and in the 1992 film. While this is awesome (personally I love seeing this, it totally fleshes out the characters), you need to remember a couple things:
Don’t overuse the words/speech patterns when they’re not necessary/correct
Make sure to use proper grammar!
I’m gonna tell you all about how to do this right here in this post.
Word replacements and their accurate uses
When I say word replacements, I mean words like youse and ain’t, which are pretty much because of the newsboys’ accents. I’ll put a small list below (there are some I don’t remember), with a few words on how properly to use them.
Ain’t: In place of is or is not.
Youse: In place of you. Yep, that’s right! Youse is NOT a replacement for your! An incorrect sentence would be “come get youse coffee”, and a correct one would be “I got coffee for youse”. It can be used anywhere  but should mainly be used when speaking directly to a group of people. “All of youse” is correct as well.
Nothin’/other contractions: You’ll notice in the film and musical that the newsies will use contractions, i.e. “no respect for nothin’, includin’ each other!”. You don’t want to use these all the time, but if someone is talking quite quickly, this is good to use. It should be used on words that end in ing.
Gotta: Gotta should ONLY be used in place of “got to”. It should not, I repeat should not be used in place of “got a”. It may sound like this when the newsies speak, but in text it is incorrect.
Nd: I’ve seen nd in place of and. You can hypothetically use this (I think) but the more correct contraction for “and” would be “n’”. People don’t pronounce the d when they contract this word, and if you look at professionally published works you won’t find this kind of contraction (but “nd” is fine if you really want to use it!).
Nicknames: The newsies refer to each other (even with nicknames in use!) as variations of the name, i.e. “Racer”, “Jackie”, “Daves”.
Do’s and Don’ts
Do: Use slang/contractions/word replacements! These would have absolutely been used by historical newsboys!
Don’t: Overuse this kind of talking - it can become repetitive. And the newsies would likely not have written like this either.
Do: Use proper grammar.
Don’t: Go crazy and throw words, contractions, and slang in when they’re not needed.
Do: Consider the characters’ backgrounds before writing this kind of speech - if a character comes from a respectable/non-newsboy background, they will not speak in the same way that a newsie does.
Don’t: Have characters like Davey or Katherine say youse or ain’t. Have you heard them talk??
Do: Fluctuate the way characters talk.
Don’t: Have them use the same contractions/word replacements all the time. Depending on their mood and their surroundings, people often change the way they talk.
In Conclusion…
Basically, you don’t have to use these tips and rules, but please please take grammar into account when writing newsies. Sure they may not speak using totally proper grammar, but that’s why these word replacements and et cetera exist in writing - to write well without sacrificing good grammar.

the parallel between the first and last scenes of act 1 are so sad like they're both jack on the rooftop singing about wanting to go to the same place but in the first scene he's with his friend best friend brother and they're like dreaming about a better life but in the last scene he's basically begging to get away because his friend got arrested and he just wants to escape from everything that's happened and he knows its because of him and he doesn't know if crutchie is okay and -

orin: too high on laughing gas to reply
