day 11 of my X-Men art challenge. I’m doing these in order of appearance, and I won’t lie, I’ve been a bit impatient to get to Storm. I hope I did her justice.

My analysis of X-men: Red? The people surrounding Storm see her as power, and the sole leader. However, Storm is not internalizing their personal views, she's observing and learning. She's observing how Arakkii view her and Krakoa, and of Brand's ulterior motives. Ororo is gathering knowledge to make a decision. She has the power to force her will on Arakko, and that's what everyone expects her to do.
Magneto and Storm are both learning more of Arrakii, a group of people with their own culture, history, and complexities. Arakkii value experience and action more than semantics. They don't recognize ownership of living things. Positions of power are earned not given. They view their mutant powers as weapons to survive, in contrast to Krakoas belief they are gifts to build.
Brand is being observed too. She views Krakoa as an occupying force and imperialists, taking things from others, and sees Arrako as brainless savages. However, Krakoa's rise to power wasnt built on stolen land, oppression of people, or stolen resources. Also, Arakko is depicted as politically minded, resourceful, and understanding of personal endeavors. The funny part is it's Brand who is trying to culturally subjugate and force assimilation on Arakko for control.
Storm, who lived as a mutant, woman, African, and hero doea not wish to speak over Arrakii or act as if she knows them better than they do her. Storm understands Brand is asking she use her position as Regent to act as the sole authority on who and what Arakkii are. Arakko is suggesting she already is in a position to do so. Storm refuses. Arakko was for Arakkii to thrive, as well as give all mutants a voice in intergalactic affairs to secure their safety, and the X-men should never be authorities on right and wrong for mutantkind even if they were mutankind's champions. Storm refuses to be sole decision maker for Arakko's future, she refuses to impose Krakoan ideals or her own will. Storm never agreed to conquest.

Storm (2014) is one of the best X-men series in X-men comics. The way it subtlely weaved in the most iconic moments of X-men history, which so happen to have Storm right in the center, to create NEW stories and development in her character, forged new relationships, the immersion of the world she lived in, depiction of Storm’s global impact and meaning to people, the emotions, the vivid explanations and creative displays of her powers…*screams*

thoughts on the newest storm centric S.W.O.R.D. issue? cause phew so much stuff went down and i need to know other people’s thoughts on what happened
I loved it.
So, the biggest question in this issue is: Who is Ororo? Why is she the Voice of Sol? No one knows what trials Storm has survived prior to taking the seat on Arroko. So here are the trials in this issue and how it relates to her past, present, and future.
The Trial of Power: The first requirement as Arroko's ruler is being an omega level mutant and having the skill to wield it. Storm mastered her powers before she was an X-man. So, defeating people using her powers is very easy. She literally made created the atmosphere on Mars, making it habitable. In this issue she soars from Earth to Mars, and easily defeated a negligible challenger. Regarding the future, Ororos experience, powers, leadership, and spirit are best suited for this seat.
Trial of Leadership: Storm has led the X-men for decades during genocide, war, and the peaceful moments in between. Storm knows when it's time to make threats and when to take action. In this issue, she specifically called the meeting for the Ring of Arroko, and have them wait for her, not only to demonstrate her influence but to witness how she deals with dissent, disrespect, and aggression. We see this upon her arrival and her battle with Tarn. They will remember this outcome, and she wants them to remember what she's made of.
Trial of Spirit: Storm has many names and many titles and many are rooted in her powers. What Tarn and Arroko do not know is that Ororo isn't revered simply because she has power, but how and when she chooses to use it. Every single title she has earned was given to her because of her bravery, empathy, fearlessness, and heroism - especially when it comes to her conviction. She doesn't need the titles or the powers, because she can and have lived without them multiple times. Tarn strips her of her power, morphs her body, and mocks her lack of mutant powers and titles, thinking that is all she is. He doesn't know her Spirit, and when Ororo eventually defeats him with her will alone he tested her again. He looked to see if she would cower after telling her she lost her right to rule Arroko when she lost her powers, knowing he took them. She looked back at him and smiled because she's not giving up her seat regardless, they will have to challenge her for it, like any other Arrakii.
Her mutant powers, The seat on Arroko, and her Regency of Sol is not who she is or what makes her great, nor is seeking and maintaining power her motivation. It's her conviction: Storm is willing to die for her beliefs in protecting mutantdom and humanity from those who would see them suffer for the sake of suffering, she will never yield and she cannot die.
