I’ve seen a lot of discussion on whether Gustav is either harsh but wise or just a jerk, and like we can discuss his philosophy all day, but are we just going to ignore the fact that Shareena was instructed to be completely silent around him? While it’s frustrating from a player standpoint how little we know about the lore of the soulsborne games despite there obviously being a rich history behind it all, from a writing standpoint it makes sense because we only know what the player character is told, and no one ever tells them fucking anything.

Every game is just, you wake up basically naked with amnesia and the world is ending, anyone who might have been alive to explain whats going on is dead by usually a couple hundred years. There’s one person not actively trying to murder you, but they wont tell you shit except “You’re going to die but maybe if you do this you wont die as horribly as everyone else.”

Thinking about how no one tells the player character anything it’s a fucking miracle we even know the names of the bosses.

Waking up to the sound of sirens was an experience I never thought I'd have... Or, I at least never imagined waking up to them blaring right in front of my house. Of course, I couldn't help but get out of bed, head pounding from the sound and heart racing with what I think was fear. I wasn't sure, I guess I was still half asleep.

When I had made it to the window, I lifted my pale hand to move the curtains, but before contact was made with them, I was pulled back against someone else's body - they were... Shivering. Something cold was placed against my neck, and I felt something sharp lightly puncture my skin. It was a knife. Before I could react, before I could do anything, a hand creeped up to my mouth and covered it. Their face moved closer to my ear, and I shivered, until I heard the next words; “I’d kill for a bathroom right now. May I use yours?”

I furrowed my eyebrows. This wasn't what I was expecting. Shaking off my previous fear, I pushed the hand away from my mouth. "You need to use the bathroom?"

"...Yes."

"Down the hall, first door on the left."

I felt the knife remove itself from my throat. A quick thanks was given and the mysterious person left my room to relieve themselves. Oddly enough, they never came back into the room, and I didn't hear anything after that, save for the shouts of confused police officers - not that I blamed them. I was confused as well...
