What Native people say about the use of sage: you can use sage, but you cannot smudge as nothing you are doing (waving sage around) is actually smudging. Smudging is a ceremony and you are, we promise, not smudging. Please buy sage from either us, or someone who sources the sage from us. White sage may not be considered endangered by the US government but corperate sourcing is making it difficult for us to source sage for our own religious purposes. Let alone to sell it.
What white people hear: never use sage ever, donât ever buy it, donât own it, donât even look at it.
Look, yâall. Thereâs a couple of facets to my talk today.
1) Yes! You can buy sage! You really, truly can! Buy it from either native sellers (go to a powwow! Eat our food, buy our stuff, watch some dancing!) Or buy it from a seller who sources the sage from native people. Pick one. And no, buying it from 5 Below doesnât count.
2) you CANNOT smudge. This isnât just you âshouldnâtââ this is a YOU ARE INCAPABLE OF SMUDGING. Waving a sage stick around your doorways IS NOT SMUDGING. It is smoke clensing. Smudging, depending on the tradition and tribe, could easily have dancing and drums involved. You, as a white person, do not have the cultural BACKGROUND to even know how it works. At all. Period.
3) please, for FUCKS SAKE, stop making posts here on tumblr where you tell other white people about cultural appropriation and what they can and cannot do. Please stop, your license has been revoked because none of you bother to get the facts right. We native people are FULLY CAPABLE OF DOING IT OURSELVES. Consider instead: a) reblogging our posts where we talk about it! Weâre here! We have made posts!! b) Making a post that states what we said and then LINKS BACK TO US. Screenshot with a link if you must. Stop centering your own voices in these conversations. You are already centered in everything, stop centering yourselves in a native space.
Iâm tired of this nonsense, yâall.
Thanks for coming to my TedTalk âą

Witchcraft 101: The Basics of Wards & Warding
I tried looking for some informative posts about wards and warding, and there are a few out there, but I thought âhey, why not bung all of the information youâve gathered into a nice little post of your own!â, and thus, this post has come to be.
So, what are wards? Well - to put it simply - wards are a means of protection against negativity, negative energies and any form of ill-will that seeks to harm yourself, your loved ones or your home. They are a form of âpsychokinetic shieldâ if you want to use the fancy terminology, - a thing to deflect nasties. Wards can be cast on objects and items, in the home or a space that you want to protect, such as a workplace or communal space, or they can be cast in certain rooms. Some wards can be cast around the whole perimeter of an area - grounds included.Â
When is the best time to cast these, wards you speak of? Well, my hard rockinâ friend, the short answer is this: whenever you feel is best. I find that whenever your home has been busy, or a high-traffic area, you may want to take down old wards and cast new ones, or perhaps after youâve had a mad deep clean in your home. That works best for me, anyway!
Alright, Rowan youâve got me hooked. Where do I start?
The first thing you need to do is cleanse. Cleansing is used in witchcraft all the time; we cleanse our tools and spaces often to make sure no residual energies or nastiness is in, on or around our stuff. Itâs the same with wards and warding. When warding, youâre essentially creating a shield using energy and this is often done by visualising and forming a sort of⊠bubble. Cleansing any tools you plan on using and cleansing the space you intend on protecting (if this is your aim, of course) will wash away any left over energies or anything that you donât want with the bounds of your ward(s).
You can cleanse using any of your preferred methods, such as smoke cleansing using incense, or by washing your area/tools/items in a charged water.
Right, so Iâve cleansed my things. Now what?
Youâre clean, and youâre ready. Okay, cool beans. Letâs get down to business (to defeat, the Huns!). You need to decided on just how you want to cast your wards as there are various ways and means of doing so. You donât have to stick to just one - youâre more than welcome to dabble and to experiment, or use combinations of methods as long as itâs safe and suits your wants and needs.
I like using sigils and symbols!Â
So, you like sigils, do yaâ? Me too! Sigils are a great way of establishing wards in and around the home. You can either choose a sigil that befits your intent, or craft your own - either is fine, and using incense smoke, oil blends or simply your finger and a little bit of visualization and a lot of focus on your intent, draw your sigils on the doors and windows of your home (primary access points), and on door frames and windowsills. If youâre creating wards for a property as a whole, you can engrave or draw sigils onto gates and fence posts too.
Incense floats my boat, Roe.
Ah, good old incense. Now, bear in mind that sometimes using incense smoke may not be possible or appropriate, or perhaps you donât do well with smoke - totally understandable, lots of people donât. If this is the case, you can cast wards using water and oil blends instead! This can be done by putting the blend into a spray bottle and then by âspritzingâ your object or area.
When youâre creating an oil blend or an incense, try your best to make sure that your protection herbs (rosemary, bay, cinnamon, salt, etc,.), are authentic because the magick is in your herbs!
A Quick Step-by-Step Guide to Incense Warding:Â Smoke or spray/spritz your item, if it is an item that you are warding. If itâs a room/building or space, you need to pick a place to start. If you are not drawn to any area in particular, then starting by your altar (if you are that way inclined!) or at a doorway, would be best. *If youâre warding more than one floor, begin at the very top and work your way down.
Next, begin smoking/spritzing the room. You do this by moving clockwise around the room (to the right). As you do so, visualise the smoke or spray enveloping everything it touches; forming an impenetrable layer on all around you - a shield, if you will. If you have problems with visualisation, then simply focus on your intent: protection, protection, protection. If youâre setting up specific wards, e.g., ones to stop bad spirits or fae, focus on that.
As you work, follow the layout of the space you are warding. Work from room to room. If you aim to set up a ward that protects an entire property, you may want to establish a perimeter. You do this by walking full circle, including the ground and gardens, if applicable.
What if I work better with energy, Roe?
Then, my friend, the bubble/wall wards will work for you.
Some people are naturally very good at working with energy and so this form of warding may work best for you, if you are one of those people. Using visualisation, take your object (if, again, thatâs what youâre doing, if not and youâre warding a space, apply the following steps to the space you are working in), and channel your energy into it. Do this by envisioning, as best you can, a cord or light or a tendril of some form, coming from yourself and into the object. During this time, focus solely and intently on your intent. Put as much power as you can muster into this.
If you are a proficient energy worker, you may be able to build a dome/wall/shield of energy that is capable of warding larger areas.
To add a little⊠oomph, to your wards, you may want to chant or add some vocal spell-work into the mix. If you do want to do this, youâll need to find an applicable chant or create one of your own and then, as you walk through your space, you will need to repeat it over and over, keeping your intent in mind. As you cover you home, or space, youâll need to speak it in each room you wish to protect!

Dangers in the Spirit Work Community
Spirit work is becoming even more popular and drawing a mass of people to it. But not many think or talk about how to proceed if you or your family & or Companions were in danger.Â
PSA:  I am by no means a pro, nor do I claim to be.  But please keep in mind, there are a lot of toxic & dangerous peopleâ as well as sellers in the spirit work community.
                          ââââ
Firstly: Ward your ass off. Â
I feel this is one of the most important things to do, even if you do not have any suspicion or need to do so. Â
When I first got into Spirit Work, I ignored most of the advice to ward and shield myself. But it is SO important.Â
There are lots of techniques to Shield and Ward yourself. They can be wards, shields, charms, hexes. Whatever you are more comfortable with,  I have some links below to help you if you need them as well.Â

Protecting Yourself Spiritually Master-list
Protect you and your space, as well as family (this includes humans and companions) as best as you can.
                        âââ
From here we will discuss if you have reasons to fear for your safety, as well as your companion/family.
Always practice Discernment.Â
What is Discernment?Â
-The ability to see and understand people, things, or situations clearly and intelligently.
(Basically, being able to tell if you ARE actually in danger & or Cursed; Or if its just you freaking out.)
That time a person got your order wrong at McDonaldâs is probably not gonna be a sign you are cursed or in danger from being attacked.
Quick Discernment List
Discernment For Beginners
Look for signs, be cautious.
How to proceed when you know you are being attacked/cursed:Â
 You are not alone.Â
You are strong, and WILL make it through this.Â
Do not lash out, I repeat DO NOT LASH OUT OR TRY TO GET REVENGE RIGHT AWAY.
I know it makes you feel helpless, and even scared, it makes you fucking pissed. But Please for the sake of your safety and companions, as well as family; Try to determine WHY this is happening. Then Proceed to the safest course of action!
This will only cause more drama and most likely more harm to you and others around you, especially if you ask for help from another friend or spirit worker in the community.
Effects of Lashing out:
- Entities & Companions can end up in comas, and even dead.Â
- You can drag close friends into this, and then they will be hurt and in danger.Â
The list goes on.Â
This does not mean you cant get revenge, but you MUST be smart about it.Â
                        ââ-
You first need to figure why you are being attacked, and who by.
You can get or do readings, whether it be by your own self; or friends. As well as People to look at your energy, even check on you and or your companions.

If you are poor like me, and canât go to a trusted conjurer or spirit worker who charges money, this tends to be the best way. As well as seeing if you can trade for services.I will link some trusted Spirit workers who know their shit below.Â
@clairvoyantclove is a lovely and trusted diviner.
@guessworkwitch  AKA trusted friend and wifey.
@petrifiedweirdo trusted friend and spirit worker.

I will add more as I get permission.
If you have gotten this far, I applaud you, Thank you so much for sticking with me.Â

If you cannot have a grimoire but still want to write, put things in-between school notes.
If youâre alone in your practice, try joining some witchy communities such as The Bubbling Cauldron or Hogwarts!
If youâre just starting to learn astrology, focus on your sun/moon/rising first.
DreamMoods is an extensive dictionary for dream interpretation.Â
Use different perfumes/facial sprays for different glamour intents.
Sore throat? Lemon, honey, and ginger tea.
Egg-shells make for great fertilizer for those herb gardens!
If you really want to be safe with grimoire writing, write in shorthand or code.
Rosemary can be a replacement for sage with smoke cleansing, also smells nicer!
If you live in a snowy area, make snow water!
If youâre interested in sea magic but live nowhere near a sea, try building an ocean shadow-box.Â
Turn music notes into sigils!
Bake cookies with the flavour that corresponds to your intent! (lemon for cleansing, chocolate for love, etc)Â
Non-consensual love spells are NOT okay.Â
Non-consensual spells on another person are NEVER okay (unless they deserve to be cursedâŠthatâs another ballpark).
Make sure to ask consent before doing a reading for someone.
If you want to learn more about Nordic mythology, this site is a great starting ground.Â
These oils are bad to have/diffuse around cats/dogs!
Draw sigils inside of your shoes.
Keep sigils on your school notes/folders for help with academics.Â
If you are allowed to draw on a test, draw a simple/quick sigil to help you pass.
If you want some really subtle kitchen-witchery, stews and soups are your friend.Â
You do not have to identify as a specific type of witch.
Put your sigils on electronics so they charge with minimum effort.
Bury a raw egg in the front of your home for abundance and protection.Â
If you are a painter, try mixing essential oils/incense ashes into your paint.
Carve or put a sigil with your intention on/under a candle for extra effectiveness.
Emoji spells can be printed and burned, if you want something more effective for them.
If you do offerings, make it a habit to do one before you go to bed.
Meditate with incense and candles related to your deity when looking for guidance .
You can craft a makeshift ouija board out of cardboard and a shot glass.
Make sure you check that whatever incense/candles youâre using is safe for your pets, cats and small animals especially have very sensitive respiratory systems .
Offerings, like food, are good when doing a spell asking for help from spirits and deities.
You do not need a fancy altar to be a witch.
Altar = work-space, alter = alternate.Â
Honey will make the outcomes of your spells more effective and positive.
You do not need to celebrate the Sabbats!
Moonglow will personalise jewellery for you that has the moon phase from the day of the event you choose.
If you donât have a candle, you can visualize lighting one.
If you canât have your altar set up all the time, set it up super nice with candles, incense, all that good stuff, and take a video. Then you can full screen that as a substitute when you arenât able to do the real deal.
Cayenne pepper helps to remove spiritual blockages.
Spirit shops are often scams or abusive, be careful.Â
Most metaphysical shops (online and in-store) are WAY overpriced. Watch for gem shows, farmers markets, thrift stores, and grocery stores in your area.
Wicca is a religion that sometimes involves witchcraft, witchcraft is a secular practice which some Wiccans practice. The two are not synonymous.Â
Thyme can be used to aid in dream spells.
Guided meditations and yoga classes that encompass witchy practices are great for new witches!
âMagickâ was a term coined by Crowley, a known antisemitic, racist, sexist and all-around asshole. Be mindful of this, using âmagicâ or âwitchcraftâ is much better.
Inspiration from spells can come from anywhere. Pop culture is a great source of inspiration, such as my all-star spell.Â
Something as simple as taking a shower can be a great cleansing method.
Tea tree oil helps treat acne and can also be used for strength!
Amethyst is pretty much good for everything.
Having a familiar is not necessary to being a witch!
If you do acrylics, try out a witchy design!Â
Tourmaline absorbs negative energy and does not need to be cleansed of it as often.
Itâs not necessary to keep a grimoire unless you want to/itâs genuinely helpful for you.
Most agate is dyed.
Menstrual blood is one of the most potent forms of blood for blood magic.
Citrine can be used for prosperity and wealth. Take it to job interviews!
If you plant mint, make sure you use a pot. That shit spreads like wildfire.
Meditation doesnât have to be sitting down cross legged, anything that makes your mind clear can work for it.
If you need to bury a spell or offering, use something biodegradable like a lettuce leaf instead of a jar.
Different flavours of soda can be drank according to your intent.
If you play an instrument, turn spells into song.Â
If you want your spell to rhyme, use a rhyming dictionary.
The word g*psy is a racial slur.
Some common flowers for glamours are roses, lilac, and lavender.Â
Numerology/number spells can be used for those who enjoy math. Â
Try living zero-waste for a week, month, or forever!
Opalite, goldstone, and bismuth are man-made.
âOne note here might be wise. Healing magic should always be used in addition to conventional medicine and never as a replacement. Doctors are the only people qualified to help your body heal itself â - Scott Cunningham
When moving into a new home, light three candles. White for cleansing, green for prosperity, and black to banish anything negative.
Polytheism = multiple gods/goddesses.

Follow the law, for goodness sake.
Taking from graveyards is illegal unless special permission is given.
Ouija boards are not the danger-zone everyone makes them out to be, check out @theouijagirlâ .Â
Since itâs coming up on summer, making herb/flower infused ice lollies is great for intent!
Teaching minors religion (witchcraft is defined as a religion by law in America) is illegal.
Sun tea is a good way to get some sun energy in your system.
Fluorite is the gay stone and nobody can argue with me.
Try making teas/lemonade with sun or moon water.
If you are not a secret witch but live with those who do not approve, try to be considerate and understand their side as well.
Science places have better prices on crystals that spiritual places.
Museums also often have amazing prices on crystals.

Cleanse yourself by going on Tumblr because thereâs so much salt.
Eat a peppermint before an interview to attract employment.
Dill and salt will reverse a curse.
To flush something out of your life, write it on a piece of flush-able material, and flush that shit down the toilet.
Not everyone practices the same way, do what is respectful and feels good to you. You are awesome!

Ask: How to Construct Solomonic Circles
In the Keys of Solomon (Greater and Lesser) there are three different circles mentioned. âCircles,â here, mean protective areas drawn on the ground for the expressed purpose of the Magician to stand in. Under this definition, this post will not include information on any of the following:
the Planetary Pentacles from the Key of Solomon
the Demon Seals from the Ars Goetia, Book 1 of the Lemegeton
the Figure of 31 Kings from the Ars Theurgia Goetia, Book 2 of the Lemegeton
the Table of Practice and associated Conjuration Seals from the Ars Paulina, Book 3 of the Lemegeton
the Figure of the Almadel from the Ars Almadel, Book 4 of the Lemegeton
Before going into the circles, itâs important to note an ideological split within the Solomonic Tradition when it comes to the ritual tools described in the Key of Solomon. I have a post, [Solomonic Tools - an Introduction], where I briefly touch on the ritual tools described in the text, but didnât get into too much detail there. In the context of Magick Circles, the tool specifically called out is the Black Handled Knife - this tool is described by the text as what to use for drawing the circles. As will be seen later, the Sword of Art is also acceptable, but the Black Handled Knife is created specifically for this purpose.
This, however, brings us back to the ideological split, which can be illustrated with the GrimoireâLodge axis of my [Solomonic Spectrum] post - Using purpose of ritual tools as the vertical axis this time, we would see the curve for this particular variable would be something of an upside down bell:
the closer you are to either extreme (i.e., either Strongly Grimoire oriented, or Strongly Lodge oriented), the more likely it is you tend to feel the tools, as theyâre described, are literal and necessary requisites for circle construction.
the closer you are to the center, the more likely it is you tend to feel the tools are either not necessary at all, or at least, are archetypal and can be swapped for things youâve ritually declare are the representation of that archetype for you (physical item or not).
(âmore likelyâ and âtend toâ are emphasized in both cases to recognize the variety of individual beliefs within the tradition. This graph simply shows a statistical average that emerges if you were to plot the beliefs of numerous people within the Solomonic Tradition on this graph).
So⊠what does this mean? Well, if youâre inclined to feel the tools described in the Grimoires are more archetypal, youâre probably more likely to also feel the detailed instructions on circle creation are not necessarily crucial. If you feel the tools are more literal, youâre more likely to also feel the instructions are detailed for a reason and try to follow them.
Instructions on the Circles I encourage you to read through the rest of this material before heading right to the instructions.
[The Magick Circle of the Key of Solomon, Book 1 Chapter 3]
[The Magick Circle of the Key of Solomon, Book 2 Chapter 9]
[The Magick Circle and Triangle of the Lemegeton, Book 1 Section 2]
Circles of the Greater Key of Solomon Of the three circles in the Keys of Solomon, two can be found in the Greater Key of Solomon, and one can be found in the Lesser Key of Solomon (or, Lemegeton). The first of the circles in the Greater Key is described in Book 1, Chapter 3, Part 2 - The Construction of the Circle. The second is described in Book 2, Chapter 9 - Of the Formation of the Circle (the number of references also depend on the manuscript used. For example, MS. SL. 3847 contains only one set of instructions; those found in Book 2, Chapter 9).
The two are similar, but not identical - not just in form but also in function. The circle in Book 2 is the more elaborate of the two, and is the circle to be used when performing operations involving (non-Goetia) Spirits; The circle in Book 1 is similar to but less complex than the one in Book 2, and most often utilized for consecration and dedication rituals.
Circle and Triangle of the Lesser Key, or Lemegeton The magical circle and triangle of the Lemegeton are described after the listing of the 72 Chief Spirits. The most well-known depiction of this circle and triangle is the Mathers/Crowley version with the coiled snake - While the Mathers/Crowley image of the coiled snake is arguably the most popular modern version of the circle, the snake image was actually not frequently used in the Grimoires. In most illustrations of this circle the text is simply written around in a spiral.Â
As there are no detailed textual instructions on how to construct this particular circle, we are left to imitate the illustration of whatever version of the grimoire we happen to have at our disposal.
The Circle: According to the Lemegeton instructions: âThis Magical Circle is to be made 9 feet across, and the Divine Names are to be written around it, beginning at EHYEH, and ending at LEVANAH, Luna.â Â As previously noted, this note and the accompanying illustration are all you have to work with. However, in the Greater Key, where the tools of art are discussed, the Black Handled Knife is specifically designated as the tool for the construction of circles. Though itâs not called out directly in the text of the Lemegeton, I take it as an assumed given: Use the Black Handled Knife to create the circle in some capacity - This circle is one that lends itself very well to a more permanent construction on canvas, which you can then reuse.
That text mentioned for the circle (the divine names âfrom Ehyeh to Levanahâ) is the following (it is customary to have a break character to separate the names/titles):
Ehyeh Kether Metatron Chaioth Ha-Qadehs Rashith Ha-Galgalim S.P.M.Â
Iah Chokmah Ratziel Auphanim Masloth S.S.F.
Iehovah Eolhim, Binah Tzadquiel Aralim Shabbathai S. of Saturn
El Chesed Tzadquiel Chaschmalim Tzedeq S. of Jupiter
Elohim Gibor Geburah Kamael Seraphim Madim S. of Mars
Iehovah Eloah Va-DaĂ€th Tiphereth RaphaĂȘl Malakim Shemesh S. of the Sun

S.P.M., for âSphere of the Primum Mobileâ S.S.F., for âSphere of the Fixed Starsâ S., for âSphereâ
This sequence of Divine Names follows the Ptolemy model of the geocentric universe, starting with the âSphere of the Primum Mobile,â the outermost rotating sphere, and moving inward successively through each sphere. As this circle is the one to be used with entities identified in the Solomonic Tradition as being Demonic, or those of The Fallen, this type of protection - surrounding oneself in calls to the Divine Names of all known celestial spheres - makes contextual sense.
(Larger Image: http://imgur.com/YTfGq8O)
In addition to this idea of wrapping yourself in layers of protection, for some others, particularly those closer to the Lodge side of the Solomonic Spectrum, this circle arrangement also helps in establishing the Magician as the Center of the Universe.
The Triangle: According to the Lemegeton instructions: âit is to be [placed] two feet from the Circle and [be] 3 feet across.â
An important note about the Triangle of Manifestation that many times gets lost: It is not supposed to be placed in a static location; the triangle is intended to be movable. According to the text, the triangle is to be placed facing the direction associated with the spirit youâre attempting to work with at that time.

To Wrap Up⊠I hope this write-up, and accompanying Circle Instruction posts, help to bring these circles into more focus for you. Even if you use them in a slightly different manner in your own practice, I hope this helps frame these structures in some more historical context to aid in their appreciation.

đ Energetic Healing; Waterbending Style đ
A method of healing inspired by Katara, and other waterbending healers. It is as close to my heart as this show is. Below are two ways I use this method ~
In the Bath ~Â
đ Â This method is best used for self healing
đ Â Create your own âspirit waterâ by adding amethyst, moon water & healing herbs to your bath. I like to use rosemary and bay leaves.
đ Â Lay back, and close your eyes.Â
đ Â Visualize yourself in the water. Picture a ray of light scanning back and forth over you, like above.Â
đ As it sweeps over you, visualize it to removing any negativity.
đ Sometimes I notice it get âstuckâ on a certain area, or start to move slowly. This usually indicates a blockage. Focus on those areas a little more intently.
đ When you are finished, stand up, and do one last sweep, downwards.    Imagine the water droplets falling off of you are the last of your negativity.
đ Â As the bath empties, all negative build-up goes with it.
Healing Yourself & Others ~Â
đ Â This method is done purely with visualization and moon water, specifically charged with the intent to heal. Â It can also be done in the astral.
đ  Place the moon water in a bowl in front of you. Bonus: drop a piece of quartz in to amplify itâs effects. An infusion like the one used in the first method can be used as well.
đ Â Visualize the water rising up out of the bowl and surrounding your hands, like Katara does.
đ Â Now, like the first method, start scanning. Run your hands over yourself or your client, searching for blockages. (If you already know the area youâd like to heal, you can skip this step.)
đ Â As your hands work back and forth across the area you are healing, visualize the water sweeping through, washing away any negative or stagnant energy.Â
đ Â Allow it to break through any blockages, clearing them.
đ Â When finished, let the water fall back into the bowl, taking all negativity with it. Thank the element, before safely disposing of it.
Things to Consider ~Â
đ Â Visualization and intent are key. You donât need to use physical water, I just find it helps.
đ  Do what feels right to you. Intuition is so important in healing. This method came to me one day while I was soaking in the tub. I instantly connected it to how Katara heals, and built off of that. Since then, the series continues to inspire my methods. I use hand movements often while doing energy work, so it works for me.
đ Â Healing takes time. It may take a few sessions to really clear away any build-ups or blockages. Be patient with yourself.Â
Happy Healing!Â

Do you know anything about creating servitors?
A servitor is a spiritual being you create in order to do your bidding.
Servitors are used for:
Protecting you spiritually.
Guarding your property or your loved ones.
Creating glamour: creating a certain aura about you, and how others perceive you.
Bring you things you might need.
Aid in tasks.
Some servitors are such powerful thoughtforms that even others can see it (although this tends to be rare or is reserved for long-existing servitors).
Essentially, creating a servitor is put into three parts:
Construction.
Charging.
Casting.
It is outlined as follows:
Construction
You will need to create a symbolic representation of your servitor. What do you want your servitor to do? If, for example, you would want your servitor to guard you, you might want to create one in the form of a knight or an intimidating dog. Or, if you want to create an appearance entirely of your own, you may wish to add features such as sharp teeth, claws, weapons, armour, etc.The possibilities are endless although I do suggest using features that you associate with protection (I prefer using traditional associations, sometimes I even borrow imagery from tarot cards). Even drawing it out on a piece of paper helps you mentally create a âsolidâ representation of it if you donât want to solely rely on your imagination in your head. Also consider: what special powers does your servitor have? What colour aura does it have? It is advisable to create a smaller servitor to begin with because larger ones require more energy.
Create your statement of intent for your servitor (what you want it to do). However, be specific and create guidelines - for example, if you want your servitor to help you gain money, you may want to tell it that causing misfortune in order to gain money is not permissible. You donât want anything to backfire!Â
It is also advisable that you create a sigil for your servitor or a symbol by which you will know your servitor. Finally, you will need to give your servitor a name. It can be any name you like or deem fitting. Do not tell anyone its name.Â
Charging
After you have created the appearance and description of your servitor, you will need to actually bring it to life.
Draw the sigil or symbol of your servitor on a piece of paper and find a place where you will not be disturbed. Focus all of your attention on the sigil, repeating the servitorâs name. Visualise as vividly as you can the servitorâs shape forming. Firstly the base, and then the main symbols and features, and then the detail. You need to believe with all your will that the servitor is real and alive. There is no point in creating something which you think does not exist. This can take from 10-30 minutes. Repeat this for three days. Afterwards, the servitor will be able to function and appear on its own.Â
Casting
You will need to give the servitor concise instructions on how to do your bidding here. See the servitor alive before you and call its name. Then, give it your instruction and then send it out to do your bidding. Never be afraid of your servitor, it is bound to you and it exists in order to fulfil your work and desires.Â
You will also have to decide on what your servitor will feed on in order to require energy (you may wish to do this on the creation section too). Here are some examples:
Sunlight.
Moonlight.
Incense.
Candles.
Attention.
Prayers.
Water.
I suggest not using your blood or yourself as a way to charge it because this can very quickly spiritually drain you, especially if it is a larger servitor.Â
You might also want to create a vessel or talisman for your servitor, and this way âfeedingâ it is easier as you can place the object on the feeding source. You can use anything you deem fitting for this, either jewellery, a statue, a drawing, a crystal, etc.Â
To get rid of a servitor
If you no longer require a servitor because its purpose has been fulfilled, you may wish to destroy it. You can either stop using it and feeding it, destroy its vessel, or simply tell the servitor to stop and return to you.Â
Damon Brand suggests that you add a code word or ritual to the job description that when spoken or done ends the life of the servitor â the warning being that it shouldnât be a word or ritual that you could do by accident and destroy your Servitor without that being your intention.

hey i just wanted to say that as a native american, im really happy youre using the term "smoke cleansing" instead of smudging. so many people use the term "smudging" nowadays and its honestly a bit offensive. so i just wanted to say A++ and i love the blog!
Honestly I always thought people using the term smudging was weird to me, because I grew up in areas that are very heavily native American influenced, and I have a huge respect for the different cultures and practices. Smoke cleansing is a clear term and gets the point across to people just as much as smudging does, but without trying to steal the name. Because while what this community is doing (smoke cleansing) is similar, it is not the same.
Anyway, iâm glad! đ
