Fic Rec: Hidden Gem of the week

Summary:

They make it to a safehouse.

Sam thinks, hopes it’s a safehouse. Steve bullies him through the front door, so all Sam can catch in a bid to take in as much of the landscape and escape routes as possible (because fuck if Sam is letting himself get caught again. His wrists are still red and tender, and there’s a bruise that takes up the expanse of his left side that Steve will never, ever know about) is winding roads, lush, green grass and tulips of all things growing at the end of long, never-ending stalks.

Sadly, the author deleted their AO3 and I had to dig this one off the web archive, but it was totally worth it. I love that the fic is Sam centric, told entirely from his POV, and it explores he and Steve's relationship and how they both recon with the events of Civil war. Sam is written with depth and nuance, he is flawed, hunted by his own traumas and pissed off. I love it!

I highly recommend this fic to any samsteve truthers who want to revisit the good old days of the 2016 peak samsteve era.
