Leviathan
One of the three High Kings of Hell (alongside Lucifer and Satan), each owning their own kingdom. Just like the other two High Kings and many of the ancient demons, Leviathan is a god who was banished along with the others to Hell by the Usurper. This information was shared to me by him and is also my own experiences through working with this magnificent infernal god.
Rulerships: despair, pain, loneliness, isolation, desolation, the sea, and defense
History: Leviathan is one of the great dragons of the sea and is a son of the Archdragon-goddess Tiamat, the one who created Earth’s lifeforms in the sea. Leviathan used to live in the ocean and was one of the most ancient Watchers, but when Jehovah came to claim the Earth for himself, Lucifer and many other gods rose up against him. However, the Usurper was too powerful and fractured many spirits, including Tiamat. After this lost battle, Jehovah threw the remaining rebel gods into the chaotic wasteland of Hell, where they became known as “demons”. Here is where Leviathan rose as one of the three mighty Kings, carving a kingdom for himself due to his immense power. He has a multitude of demons (some are named in the Goetia and many are external to that source), and his power in his kingdom is without equal. Recently, there has been a truce between Lucifer and Leviathan, which allows for greater cooperation and mutual respect between the two High Kings.
His Kingdom: Leviathan’s kingdom is set in a desolate and dry land full of steep canyons. It is a place that is filled with crippling sorrow and loneliness, so much so that it can break the strongest of hearts. His demons are accustomed to this, but astral travelers are warned from remaining for too long. The human spirits who are condemned to this land are tormented through indescribable loneliness and despair, and they are all spread out far apart across the land, never able to see another being again. Their wails and moans are carried far across the empty landscape, which sound full of haunting agony. In Leviathan’s castle, it is dark and massive, with black stone pillars stretching towards the ceiling. At his throne, one can see Leviathan’s massive form coiled high and watching.
Elements: Water, Earth, and Strife
Colours: Black
Appearance: A massive, black scaled serpentine-dragon with silver eyes that shine like stars; his body spans dozens of meters even when coiled. Leviathan usually keeps his eyes squinted when around others since if he fully opens them, it creates a massive blast of immense despair.
Personality: Leviathan values loyalty more than anything. He also values love, innocence, idealism, intelligence, and serenity. He is deeply ponderous and serious, and sometimes he can appear to be dire when overcome by despair. He is very meticulous and patient as well, and despite his dark and serious behaviour, he will show compassion towards those who are innocent. He usually prefers being alone and seldomly speaks to anyone, making him one of the most withdrawn demons. Leviathan is incredibly austere and diligent, as well as powerful. He is easily able to crush the psychologically defenses of armies just by approaching them.
Leviathan is the ancient dragon who destroys all that is redundant (be it people, places, or ideas); he tears right through them but does not devour them. These things instead scatter apart over vast distances so that better things can come forth. Overall, Leviathan tends to be cold, calculating, dispassionate, and very reserved with most beings. He rarely speaks to anyone except only when necessary.
Like every being, Leviathan has a shadow aspect, which is his darker and destructive side. This side emerges when Leviathan is overcome by his own grief, causing him to become cold, sadistic, and robotic in personality. This side of him is the one which created a race of entities which are very similar to the Cenobites mentioned in the books by Clive Barker. Leviathan creates these beings from select humans who are being tormented in his realm and transforms them into cold-natured beings who know nothing but pain and act as sado-masochistic torturers for Hell.
How to call him: Speak to King Leviathan as you would with any other god, be polite and considerate, especially since he is royalty. Contact him through telepathically speaking in your mind, directing the words to him (you can do this verbally, but if malicious spirits hear, they may pretend to be him). Try to dress formally as well, and do not demand things from him. For those who are depressed, please keep in mind that speaking to Leviathan causes you to become exposed to his energy, which will lead to your depression becoming worse.
What he can do: help with anything sea-related, all matters relating to defense (including self-defense); help with solitude, loneliness, shadow work, and all types of being in isolation and recovering. He can provide solace, as well as give advice and support in these matters. If requesting his assistance, ensure you are not against the values he supports, as shown above, otherwise he will disregard the call. Disloyal, hateful people who call upon him often find nothing but ruin in their lives.
His Enn (for devotion or meditation): Jaden Tasa Hoet Naca Leviathan
Offerings:
Offerings of action are appreciated over physical offerings. Devote practices such as self-growth, shadow work, and donating to oceanic protection groups to him.
Leviathan has stated that he does not eat or drink anymore, so there are no offerings of that nature. Also he said that he no longer enjoys anything in particular, although he used to like wind chimes, the fluttering of leaves, and the open sea. So a suitable offering could be seawater (sealed in bottle). He also enjoys black tourmaline stones, so that is another option. Apart from these, sea-shells, tobacco, and basalt would be good choices.

*takes your face gently in my hands and looks sincerely into your eyes* listen. your home does not need to look like a showroom. homes are meant to be lived in, and that means a certain amount of mess. it's okay if there is clutter on your desk or if you don't remember the last time you cleaned your oven. mess is morally neutral. but at the same time, you deserve to live in an environment that is safe and comfortable, and that means someone has to clean sometimes. things like mold, spoiled food, and dirty litter boxes are genuine health hazards and need to be dealt with before they make someone sick. think of cleaning less as "my home needs to be completely spotless" and more as "I am an animal and I need a habitat that is free of hazardous material." it's okay. *kisses you on the forehead and tucks you into a blanket*
(and of course it is always acceptable and even good for you to ask someone else to help you with cleaning if it's physically or mentally difficult for you. even if you're paying them to do it.)

Two Banishing Powders from a Southern Folk Witch
In Southern folk magic, the formula used for a banishing spell varies a little bit based on whether you want to banish an actual person (basically getting them to leave you alone) or a spirit/energy/abstract concept.
Banishing formulas for getting rid of living people tend to focus on causing irritation and discomfort to get someone to leave, which may be less effective if they don't have a physical body. Banishing formulas for spirits/energy are more about deep cleansing and making the space inhospitable for undesirable spirits. The herbs and minerals a practitioner might reach for are different in these two situations.
Below are two all-purpose banishing formulas from my practice: one for living people, and one for spirits.
GTFO Powder
For getting rid of unwanted (living) people.
You will need:
The spiciest red pepper flakes/powder you can find (If you like spicy food, use something so hot you can't eat it in large amounts. I like spice and I use Szechuan pepper flakes, but cayenne will work, especially if you know the person you want to banish doesn't like any spice at all in their food. Discomfort is the goal here.)
Black pepper (Used here to cause mild inconvenience/discomfort/bad luck)
Salt (Good, old fashioned banishing)
(Optional) dried, crumbled wasps nest*
(Optional) dirt from the side of a busy road or highway**
*This is actually much easier to find than you'd think, but be careful not to get stung! This is a traditional ingredient in Southern folk magic because wasps are known for how viciously they protect their homes. Fair warning: this is a mean ingredient (since its purpose is to cause pain/discomfort), so I'll leave it up to you whether to include it or not. If you're dealing with a stalking or abuse situation, wasps nest can give you the extra oomph you need to help keep the abuser from returning.
**Only include this if you're trying to make someone physically leave your space or relocate to a different geographical area. And PLEASE be careful collecting this dirt! My advice is to try to collect it during a less busy time of day and to stay several feet away from the actual road.
How to Use It:
When you mix up this powder, speak over it and state your intention. You can enchant this powder for all-purpose banishing, or you could mix up a batch to banish a specific person. Either way, it is important that you tell the powder what it is meant to do. I like to speak directly to the spirits in the powder and ask them for their help.
Traditionally, you would use this powder by sprinkling some in your target's shoes, but that isn't always possible. You can use it in poppet spells by adding it to the feet of the poppet for the same effect. You can also use it to dress candles, add it to jar spells, or incorporate it into other types of banishing spells. Warning: do not burn this powder, as it can cause irritation or injuries to the lungs.
If you need to get rid of a specific person, you'll want to customize the powder to only work on them. The easiest way to do this is with a taglock (an item that has a physical connection to the target). Some of their hair would be ideal, but you can also use a photo of them or even a piece of paper with their name and address written on it, like you were addressing a letter. You'll want to burn the taglock to ash, then mix this ash into the powder. Make sure you burn it outside, because the smoke will be unpleasant.
You can use this powder to keep someone away from your home or another building by sprinkling a line of it across all entrances to the building. If you do this, make sure you've customized the powder for that person with the method above -- otherwise you may accidentally banish ALL visitors.
Ghost-Be-Gone Powder
For getting rid of unwanted spirits or psychic energy. Can also be used to banish non-physical things, like an illness or a bad habit.
You will need:
Asafoetida*
Salt (Again, used here for good, old fashioned banishing)
Garlic (You know how garlic is supposed to repel vampires? That's basically what it's doing here.)
Rosemary (Used for cleansing and banishing)
(Optional) dirt from a church, temple, or other place of worship**
*Honestly, I've used asafoetida by itself for banishing and gotten really good results. This is definitely the Big Daddy of cleansing herbs in Southern folk magic. You can usually find this in international grocery stores or get it online for fairly cheap, and it's one of the few herbs I think are worth going out of your way to get. Warning: a lot of people complain about the smell of asafoetida, but it honestly just smells like a stronger, more pungent garlic to me so your mileage may vary.
**While dirt from a church is traditional, use something tied to a religion YOU believe in. If you aren't Christian, don't use church dirt. For myself, I might use dirt from the Wiccan temple near my home or from another pagan holy site. The point here is to call on your personal spiritual allies for help. If you are an atheist or agnostic, just leave the dirt out entirely.
How to Use It:
When you mix up this powder, speak over it and state your intention. You can enchant this powder for all-purpose banishing, or you could mix up a batch to banish a specific spirit. Either way, it is important that you tell the powder what it is meant to do. I like to speak directly to the spirits in the powder and ask them for their help.
To use this powder to remove a spirit from your home, use it to clean your floors. You can sprinkle it on the floor, let it sit for a few minutes, and then sweep or vacuum it up.
I don't recommend burning this powder as incense, but you can use it in spells. You can place a ring of it around the base of a black candle or add some to a jar spell, for example. You can also use this to cast a circle around your spellwork if you want to protect it from interference in the spiritual realm.
A Note on Cultural Appropriation
Every time I post some of the more folksy parts of my practice online, I get asked whether it's okay for others to use these spells. Specifically, people want to know if these spells come from a closed tradition or if they have to live in the South to use them.
The folk magic tradition I practice is not tied to any closed cultural practice. I will never post anything from a closed practice online. So yes, you can use these powders no matter who you are or where you are from. You don't have to live in the South or be from the South to practice Southern folk magic, but you will get more out of your practice if you have a connection to the region.
On a related note: some of y'all may have noticed that these powders are similar to formulas used in Hoodoo. The GTFO Powder specifically is very similar to Hotfoot Powder, which is used for a similar purpose in Hoodoo. Hoodoo is a semi-closed African-American tradition that is typically passed down in families or communities. When I post about my practice, I do occasionally get comments accusing me of appropriating from Hoodoo.
Here's the thing: my practice does have some overlap with Hoodoo, because I am in the same geographical region and part of the same regional culture that Hoodoo comes from. Over hundreds of years, ideas get exchanged across racial and cultural lines. Just like some elements of Hoodoo come from European traditions, some elements of white folk magic in the South come from African roots. It's not appropriation -- it's a natural result of living in multicultural communities.
All of this is just to say, what I do is not Hoodoo, but I think of my tradition and Hoodoo as cousins. There's some shared DNA, but also a lot of differences. How I do things might look similar to how a Hoodoo practitioner does them, but the theory or exact ritual process may be different.

Iroh's Lightning Redirection
A spell to reflect/ direct negative energies and magic away from you based on Iroh teaching Zuko to shoot and redirect lightning
What You Need
A wand, a stick or a long piece of clear quartz or Selenite (as a detoxifier, an energetic director/ balancer, and vibrational dampner)
A purifying or cleansing incense (I use sage, but not everyone likes the smell of sage.)
A room with plenty of natural light
A glass of water
What To Do
Prepare yourself and the space you will be working in. Meditate, ground, center, cast a circle and call whatever powers, if any, that you work with.
Arrange the above items in front of you. If you know or feel that negative energies, vibrations or magics have been directed at you, sit in the sunlight comfortably, and allow the sunlight to warm you.
Visualize and allow it to begin burning away the negative energies that have latched on to you.
Light the incense and continue allowing the sunlight to warm you. Feel it, visualize it tearing holes in the web of negative magics that have surrounded you as it warms your skin. Smell the incense as it too pushes through the magic and energy and vibrations. Allow it to flow around you, cleansing you as it surrounds you instead of the negative energy.
Take the wand/ stick/ crystal and hold it with a point away from you. Visualize all of that negative energy coalescing. As it does, it sits at the point of the crystal or wand. Continue doing this, visualizing the light and smoke surrounding you instead, wrapping you in a cleansing shield of warmth, filtering out every bit of the negative into the coalesced point.
Close your eyes, still visualizing the above. Move the wand about yourself until every bit of the negative energy is collected. Hold the crystal/ wand with both hands now. Say “In the sun’s cleansing light, by the moonstone’s cleansing sight, let this darkened energy, be no more a part of me.”
Point the wand/ crystal away (I pointed mine out the window into the sunlight, so it could dissipate into the light) and visualize the collected negativity leaving.
Visualize it like a dandelion being torn by the wind. Bit by bit being carried away until it is all gone and is no more.
Sit and continue to allow the sun to warm you, the smoke and light working together to cleanse you.
When you feel free of the weight of the magic or negative energy, drink the water, let it soothe and refresh you. I recommend showering after this, as a secondary cleanse from whatever residual energies and magic might still remain.
I also recommend taking a long break after this kind of work and cleansing as it can be EXTREMELY draining!
This is not guaranteed to work. Depending on the magic or energy directed at you, you may need to use a different or even multiple methods to get rid of whatever energy and magic has attached to you.
Good luck and happy casting witches!

Merry and Pippin's Bond
~A spell to strengthen your friendship~
This spell requires permission of your friend as well as their presence and participation in the spell
What you’ll need
Your friend
three candles (two tapers work best, but any kind of either matching candles or candles with colors that represent you and your friend individually, plus one pillar candle with at least two wicks)
string/ ribbon/ cord of some kind
pictures or items that represent both you and your friend (small enough to tie to the pillar candle together
any herbs/ crystals that you associate with yourself and your friend something that represent your friendship and the bond you wish to strengthen (this could be a song you play while doing the spell, a dance or secret handshake works, anything.)
What you need to do
Prepare for the spell. Meditate, raise energy, ground center, cast your circle, whatever you need to do, along with your friend. You and your friend should work across from each other in whatever space you are in.
Have your respective candles next to you, the pillar candle in the center of the work space surrounded by the rest of the materials.
Perform whatever action bonds you. (song or dance, handshake etc.)
Each of you take whatever items represent your friend, and with the cord, ribbon or string, bind them to the pillar candle. *(Note you have to continue to use the pillar candle, so make sure the items aren’t too bulky or make it difficult to hold the candle.)*
The pillar candle represents your bond. Use that candle to light your individual candles When doing so say the following together. “The flames of two burn bright apart But together create a larger fire Let friendship’s fire spread abound And then apart burn brighter”
It is done. You will take your friend’s candle and they yours, and you will trade the pillar back and forth, to continue strengthening your friendship. Clean the work space and then go out with your friend or do something that both of you enjoy. Get a drink, play a game, whatever bonds you.
Good Luck and Happy Casting Witches!

15 Days of Freyja Devotion
Day 12: Aesthetics you associate with this deity
I'm not huge on aesthetics, but I associate Freyja with beauty, sensuality, and luxury. I see her in art that features women and femmes being sexy, confident, and comfortable. I see her as someone who enjoys the finer things in life and enjoys being surrounded by finery. She's definitely the type to sip champagne in expensive lingerie.
On the other hand, I also associate her with art that depicts women and femmes as dangerous. I see her in all depictions of the monstrous feminine. I see her in fictional women who are deadly. I think of her and I think of that one quote that I think originally comes from a Black Widow comic: "Wolves and girls. Both have sharp teeth."
I don't see these sides of her as contradictory, but as two sides of the same coin.
