I love how the hand holding scenes in each season are a perfect reflection of each couple's story. I realize that's precisely the point but it's still beautiful to see.

Daphne and Simon just sort of slowly come together until Daphne tentatively, tenderly moves her hand into his and he lets her. She chips away at his wall a little more and he allows it, even participates in it, like he knows it's what he needs.

With Kate and Anthony we don't actually get the holding part. Their story is all about wanting but not having, reaching but not meeting. It's painful to watch.

And with Colin and Penelope, we see them bump and fumble their way together until they both commit to it with equal strength and certainty, holding each other steady. A shaky start that leads to perfect harmony.

I'm sorry, but this is visual storytelling at its finest.

Colin Bridgerton truly is a man of action, but only if his family points out that he should do something first lol. His mom is like "hey you should maybe talk to Penelope before she gets engaged."

And Colin goes, "Yes, absolutely, good point. I'll go get engaged to Penelope immediately. Thanks mom."

And then Anthony goes, "Hey you should probably tell Penelope you love her with your words."

And Colin immediately stands up and is like, "Such a great point, I'm going NOW."

I don't think I have ever seen a "first time" scene so visceral, sincere, honest and incredible to watch. The gentleness, the awkwardness, the shyness, him constantly seeking her consent at every step, the passion, them giggling because they can be friends even while making love...it felt like I was actually intruding into someone's bedroom, every moment felt so genuine and sensuous.

This is why this season is hitting differently. The scene could've been just about raw sexual passion and we'd have lapped it up, but it was about two friends discovering each other for the first time together as lovers , it was kindness and sexuality and relief and joy in every frame. I refuse to ever get over this, they DELIVERED.

I’m so sorry, but Colin and Penelope painstakingly learning to love every. single. part. of each other — especially the parts that are vindictive, and petty, and jealous, and angry — in such a delicate and early (!!!) point in their romantic relationship does such a supreme justice to their love story that I can never, never wish the Whistledown plot was diminished. (Benedict and Francesca subplot, absolutely. Whistledown, no.)

Because really, how fucking romantic is it, that they both go into their marriage willingly, with their eyes wide open and only their trust in each other that this will all be okay, somehow, to hold onto?

It’s so beautifully ironic that the two greenest, most naïve, most “puppy love” of all the Bridgerton couples actually has the most mature depiction of a deep relationship and connection in the show; that it was through them that they managed to highlight how love is always a choice. It’s such a fantastic juxtaposition, especially for two characters who “have never been taken seriously”.

As they say, the goal is to laugh forever with someone you take seriously. Oh, my sweet, sweet Polin. 🩵
