1 month veggie and what inspired the transition
So I’ve been vegetarian for around a month, whoop whoop! And you know what... I haven’t missed meat as much as I thought I would.
To begin with I was going to be a flexitarian before becoming fully veggie but when I begsn my parents started buying a lot of vegetarian food so I just stop eating meat a lot quicker. The only time I missed meat for a slight second was when my Mum cooked a roast lamb dinner and it smelt great. I got over it a few seconds later when I saw all the food I was having and how I was being a better human for not giving into temptation. All of the other meals I’ve had I’ve really enjoyed so I really don’t feel like I’m missing out at all.
I was inspired to turn veggie after I had switched my all of my makeup and toiletries to cruelty free alternatives as it just seemed like the logical next step. The other big inspiration was discovering Madeleine Olivia’s YouTube channel and blog. Even though she is a vegan and I don’t see myself taking that step anytime soon just because it’s already asking s lot of my folks who still insist on buying my food and cooking for me. Madeline is amazing though as she’s introduced me to so many more vegan, eco friendly and waste minimising ideas which I’m getting more and more excited to start adopting into my lifestyle.

Trip to Brighton and The Victory Inn
Earlier this week I dragged my Mum to Brighton for the day because since I’ve been home from uni (just over a month) I think I have been out twice but for only very short periods. (excluding my volunteer placements). So it’s safe to say I was going a little stir crazy.
It was a very hot day so was nice to be able to be outside, enjoy the sea air and try and catch some sun (well avoid burning in my case). We explored some of the Brighton lanes although much to our disappointment every other shop is a jewellers.
For lunch we went to The Victory Inn which is a proper old traditional pub who are dog friendly and have a completely vegetarian menu. Awesome! As we knew we were getting dinner later with others and also because it wasn’t the cheapest (£19 for the food and two Pims... not extortionate but I’m a cheapskate poor student used to Wetherspoon prices. 😂) Anyway, they did not disappoint. The Pims was nice and the bartender recommended the Nearly Fish and Chips (beer battered Halloumi). If I’m honest I was a little nervous about it because I have never really liked Halloumi, probably because of the rubbery texture and also just because I’m not the biggest fan of cheese anyway. But I don’t know what kind of magic they performed but the cheese was not rubbery at all and reallly looked like battered fish... even when you cut into it. Served with with some knarly crispy chips, tata source and minty peas. 🤤I should have taken more pictures but I got carried away with stuffing my face. 😂

In the evening my Dad and sister joined us for dinner in Revolution. I have loved Revolution since going to the bar in Norwich a few years ago and loved both their food and cocktails menu (obviously I was a meat eater then). This time I had the spicy Bean Burger. The flavours just were amazing. 👌🏻 Looking forward to going back and trying their cocktails or flavoured vodka shots.
I have discovered with this post that I’m not very good at reviewing restaurants. Just know that if I use the emoji 🤤 or 👌🏻then I really rate it. I would obviously recommend The Victory Inn for vegetarians or vegans more as there is a lot more choice. Besides a Salad, Haloumi Wrap or Bean Burger everything else contains meat.

What efforts have I already made?
For a while now I have been trying to switch all of my makeup and toiletries over to products produced by cruelty free companies. Some of the products I have I found on random websites or just when out shopping. More recently, I have been looking at the cruelty free brand list on the blog Logical Harmony which is like a bible for animal friendly and vegan companies. Below is a breakdown of all the cruelty free products I own. I do still use one or two products which are not cruelty free and that’s only because I don’t want to waste them but they are all almost finished and an alternative cruelty free product can be purchased instead.
